To this day I still don't understand how the fuck this movie got made lol.  It's absolutely whack but I remember watching it all the time as a kid cause I was a fan of Pee Wee Herman.  His cameo was the main reason I watched, I think he does 'The Bird is the Word' in the movie.  How much cocaine was required to film that scene is what I'd like to know.

I loved this as a kid too. We watched it the other day, I the kids liked it. They sing Jamaica Ska all the time. I think I'll watch it again and take a shot every time I see the guy with long, blonde, curly hair from the band the Surf Punks.

One of my favourite bands of the time, Fishbone, do the song "Jamaica Ska" with Annette Funicello. The soundtrack is more fun than the film itself.

As for how this movie got made, I think it's pretty much the same as with a lot of crap in the 80s: baby boomer nostalgia for dumb shit they grew up with, like Frankie Avalon beach movies. Bear in mind, Back to the Beach was made only a few years after Grease.
