    Musical Mondays Week 97 1776

Apologies for not participating in my own choice. Now that things are getting back to usual (never normal), I do have some things I'd like to mention. 1) The whole first exchange (Sit Down, John; then Piddle, Twiddle, and Resolve) had me hooked. I had never seen such open snark in a historical movie. The initial debates between Adams and Dickinson were the same kinds of points I had wondered about. When I saw the movie for the first time I was living in or near the Philadelphia area and had been to Independence Hall several times. Figured it was time to see what the movie was like. 2) When I get depressed the last exchange between John and Abigail Adams always helps me. John complains he fears there is nothing left but the discontentment. Abigail replies

Crap. Alan Parker died. Watch Evita, Fame, The Commitments, Bugsy Malone, Pink Floyd's The Wall, or whatever I might have missed this weekend.

This movie's a little goopy, considering it features Gwyneth Paltrow's mother and all.

    Trailer Talk

IIRC @Cameron H. likes Monster Trucks so there's hope.
  10. I think this is my week but want to confirm that. Also, I need to wait a little to explain my pick (sitting in the doctor's waiting room now). Once I am home from my appointment I will get into it.
  11. MUCHO, MUCHO apologies. I had meant to host showings on Wednesday and Thursday nights as well as Friday. So, I will be happy to schedule individual showings over the weekend if people can't access PlutoTV. @Cam Bert, are you able to see this? If not, let me know. I plan on doing the usual 9 p.m. Eastern but can move that up to 7 or 8 if it's easier for whoever.
  12. I am that way with the TV miniseries The Blue and the Gray. I was in 8th grade History class when it was broadcast. Our teacher would record each night (on Betamax tapes!) and we'd watch and discuss it in class.
  13. How can you tell if a movie is on Pluto? I can never find a search function.
  14. Also, Movies Anywhere has a beta service called Screen Pass. Since I own the movie I can share the movie with three Movies Anywhere users. You would have a week to start watching it and 72 hours from the time you start viewing the movie. Let me know if this interests anyone.
  15. Six years ago I was in ♫ the room where it happened, the room where it happened♫.
  16. OK, here goes. In @Cam Bert's words, I want to strike while the iron is hot and view the Hamilton prequel. This brought the Continental Congress to life for me and allowed me to view the Framers as more than stuffy old men. There are troublesome parts, of course, but hypocrisies are also discussed and brought to light. The arguments between John Dickinson and John Adams were the very questions I had wondered about before seeing this movie. We're watching It is long but I plan on doing at least three Kast showings, to allow people to view an hour at a time if they wish. It is available for rent on Vudu and Amazon, and maybe elsewhere.

Musical Mondays Week 96 Fiddler on the Roof

@Cam Bert mentioned the Got Milk? commercial. Here's the original then some others. Here's "Aaron Burr" (Leslie Odom, Jr's) recreation. https://ew.com/article/2015/05/20/hamiltons-aaron-burr-recreates-famous-got-milk-commercial/

@Cam Bert and I just finished watching Hamilton for the first time. I cried at the end once Eliza came on.

Musical Mondays Week 96 Fiddler on the Roof

Question: Who is making the dairy products that Tevye sells? I understand him and his family milking the cow and him selling the raw milk, but the cheeses? If it's Tevye, where is he getting the time if his deliveries take all day? Besides, shouldn't he be in good stead with God?

Musical Mondays Week 96 Fiddler on the Roof

The picture is from a TV episode about 5 years before the movie was released so Topol is around 30 in the picture.

Musical Mondays Week 96 Fiddler on the Roof

I know no one in here is a big Hamilton fan but maybe, after viewing Lin-Manuel Miranda and his father-in-law's creativity, maybe give the show a 2nd chance?

Musical Mondays Week 96 Fiddler on the Roof

I don't know a way on Dailymotion to start clips at a certain point so I will suggest several timestamps. The clip is the entire episode (from 1966) of The Danny Kaye Show where Topol was one of the guest stars. At the time he was playing Tevye in a production in London. 1st spot: Around 41:15 where Topol and Danny sing L'Chaim in Yiddish. 2nd spot: Around 36:56 where Danny interviews Topol and Senta Berger. 3rd spot: Around 29:15, where Topol first comes on in a sketch
