Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Sorry for being out of the conversation most of the day. Just wanted to add the Marx Brothers movie The Cocoanuts (1929).

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

I recently saw an ad for Holiday Inn as a Broadway show. All I could think was "How did they do/get around that February Abraham Lincoln blackface number?"

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

I'm so glad to hear it. I've been wanting to mention it for a long time, y'all.

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Two movies in a row of women being held at arm's length for amazingly long periods of time (Adelaide and Miss Mona). Your end statement also lines up for both movies.

Does Nathan know at that point what Sky has put on the line?

  8. Is that why you wear those funny glasses with the fake nose?
  9. I was hoping but sadly, no.
  10. How available does the movie need to be? For instance, one movie I want to pick is only on Amazon Prime currently so I wouldn't pick that one. Not going to require everyone to sign up for Prime just to watch a pick.
  11. Given "seedy" industry, the original GIF and Across the Universe, I thought it would be some verson of Strawberry Fields Forever.
  12. I have a complaint. I can't see the image!
  13. Hell no! I would too! On another note I confused CakeBug with you and hoped this would be the pick.
  14. Through the Galaxy? They made a musical of The Black Hole?
  15. Hey, he bought his ticket. He knew what he was getting into...
  16. OK, which one of you did this?
  17. And now you know...The Rest of the Story
  18. I've never seen a covered wagon wheel. They've always been out in the open.
  19. I hadn't heard the slowed-down version nor was I really familiar with the song. I've since listened to the song repeatedly. The description given earlier made it come alive. Well done all! (I also listened to Miley's version. She could have really become known for her singing. She's got a great voice.)
  20. I had two conspiracy theories, both debunked by Wikipedia (Darn it!) 1) The ZZ Top song "La Grange" came out in 1973. Zindler started his campaign and shut the Chicken Ranch in July-August 1973. Coincidence? Did they learn about the Chicken Ranch from the song? (EDITOR: Wikipedia says No. The Ranch was surveilled in December 1972 and the process started from there. It was the pushback the state authorities got from the local boys -- authentic in the movie -- that led them to contact Zindler to try and use his influence. It was in Wikipedia so you KNOW it's true!) 2) In the movie maybe it was Deputy Fred who contacted Melvin P. Thorpe to crusade against the Ranch. In the end he seems to have gotten the job of sheriff. He got tired of driving out to the ranch all the time to get the sheriff for bigger issues and not getting the respect he felt he deseved. (EDITOR: Not really. In real life the sheriff had a direct phone line installed so he didn't have to keep driving out to the ranch. His predecessor had gone over every evening to hear if people had boasted of crimes and to help keep the peace.)
  21. Was "I Will Always Love You" in the Broadway show? Dolly wrote the song so maybe she had a part in creating the show?
  22. That absolutely does! Thanks! Guess A&M's main rival is the Horned Frogs at Texas Christian University.
  23. You just reminded me that Dulcie Mae's story was upended as well, AND she had a little boy! I would have liked to see a scene where she gave Burt an ultimatum like Dolly did.
