  1. I profusely apologize to all, especially Cameron H. He asked me to create the thread as he had a busy day. I made him take time out of his day just to come in here. I have no excuse.

Musical Mondays Week 92 Mamma Mia!

    1) F-Baranski, M-Walters (she’s solid and successful on her own), K-Streep (too serious and bland) 2) F-Skateboard, M-Firth, K-Brosnan I realize this makes me mortal enemies with Cameron H. Crap.

Musical Mondays Week 92 Mamma Mia!

Back to favorite song, my ultimate is Voulez Vous, with Does Your Mother Know? a close second. Voulez Vous is the song that taught me how bands know when to stop repeating a chorus. At some point I noticed a guitar playing a short beat and the repeats ended. Since then I have listened to songs differently, listening for the “signal”. Since everyone knows my favorites I will share the song that strikes me the most, Like an Angel Passing Through My Room, the last song on the album The Vistors. (The album is ABBA’s last studio album so the song is almost the last of their career.) The song itself is spare and unsettles me, but the ending breaks me up. The clock ticking just seems to go on and when it stops, whew. I don’t know whether to be glad or scared.

Musical Mondays Week 92 Mamma Mia!

In the sequel I missed whatever explained it was 10 years later. I heard that it was one year since (spoiler) and thought the entire movie happened one year after the first. Then Stellar Skateboard shows up VERY fat, the border guard slammed each dad for being old and ugly and I was muy confused.

They also never really explain the backstory behind each guy. They “transform” into Donna’s memory of them but that Image is only mentioned when King George VI picks up the guitar. Each backstory enacted in the sequel has nothing to do with the flash image from the first movie. WHY does Stellar Skateboard have an eye tattooed on each knee? Is he part of the Illuminati?
  6. Amazon also has the first one to buy for $4.99 for HD quality. Vudu has SD, HD and UHD (4k) for $7.99. Amazon has the 2nd in HD for $7.99. Vudu has all three qualities for $14.99. All of them are linked through Movies Anywhere. Buying it in one spot makes it available elsewhere.
  7. I have a nit to pick. Since ABBA is a palindrome, shouldn't the movie's title be a palindrome? (The palindrome for "Mamma Mia" is "Notlob".)

Musical Mondays Week 91 Hello Again

I'm very sorry for the long delay. I was in the hospital again for over a week. I don't want to let this week go by without discussing 7:35 in the Morning. So, what the heck was the "meaning"? As far as I can tell he was holding the cafe-goers hostage, having shown them his suicide vest? But if that was the case why was the one guy the only one who trembled and couldn't deliver his lines?
  9. So you're saying "Here you'll go again"?

Amazon has it to rent. I believe the other main services offer rental and purchase options. It links to Movies Anywhere so your purchase in one service will be available in others. (I bought it in Vudu and can watch it at Amazon.)

I liked it fine. The only problem I had is the “commercial time” and “back from commercial” loud music.

Musical Mondays Week 91 Hello Again

You have to watch it in memory of Orson Bean’s (Bilbo’s voice) recent passing.

Musical Mondays Week 91 Hello Again

One of my favorite movies growing up. I just bought it on streaming a couple weeks ago!

Musical Mondays Week 91 Hello Again

That’s definitely weird. According to Wikipedia (so you know it’s true) the musical’s author came up with the different decades precisely so he could use different musical styles.

I wouldn’t have minded the time jumps as much if it wasn’t supposed to be the same character. I might have that wrong and it might just be to show which actor was making the jump. For instance, the first Rumer Willis vignette is titled The College Boy and The Young Wife. The next is The Young Wife and The Husband. THEN it’s The Husband and The Young Thing, set on The Titanic. Both Young Wife segments happened in later decades so The Husband traveled back several decades if it is supposed to be The Husband. if you need me I will be over here binge-watching 7:35 in the Morning (the original pick).
  17. It's that time again! Since we did Hair last week don't pick Bald this time. Otherwise, have fun! What do you have for us?
  18. Also, 6:30-7pm EST is 5:30-6pm EDT.
  19. Crap! I missed the watch party. That's what I get for binge-watching 7:35 in the Morning.
  20. So do I. It was $4.99 once on Amazon Prime or Vudu.
  21. I probably should. Was waiting for my next pick but I have others I can choose.
  22. OK, time to make everyone mad at me. After watching 7:35 in the Morning, play the song I Hope that Somethin' Better Comes Along from The Muppet Movie in your head. To me that song sounds awfully similar to the main actor's verses. (Not for plagiarism or anything, just similar tunes.)
