  1. My middle name is Gene. Gangrene Gene?
  2. 1. I listened to the first episode of the podcast on the drive in today. I'm a fan. I think it'll be a good source for finding horror material that I hadn't encountered before. 2. My standby has always been Halloween. When I was a kid in the early/mid-80's, my brother and I would come home and sort our trick or treat hauls. On Halloween night, either Halloween 1 or 2 would normally be on television, albeit in the cable-friendly version. That would be on in the background when we were looking through our bags, and it always creeped me out. (EDIT: Thanks, mom and dad) I still love watching it. I liked Friday the 13th, but wasn't in love. Nightmare on Elm Street was decent, but it was never too scary to me. Halloween? That's the tops for me.
  3. Thanks for posting this. I'm always on the hunt for more podcasts. Movie podcasts? Great! Horror movie podcasts? More than great! I've got a 30-minute commute each way to work, so I'm going to load up on these tonight!

    Ghosts Can't Do It (1989)

Bump. POTUS "won" a Razzie for his role in this turd of a film. No fake news here.
  5. Ok, so the wrong Jon Lovitz, but this was a great episode. The crew wasn't necessarily phoning it in the last few, but they didn't seem too into the task at hand. Jason was in top Zouks form here. I love that Paul was super intense watching the movie. And June? She was on fire this episode. She was awesome. Moving on, when is real Jon Lovitz coming on the show?
  6. I had high, misguided hopes when I read the name of the guest. Imagine my disappointment when I realized it's not Lovitz.

The signs of a bad movie list

I haven't seen two of those films, but "great in Rocky IV" seems like a stretch. He has less than 10 lines and looks like very realistic wax figure when he's not throwing haymakers. I think there's a very low ceiling on his acting abilities. I agree he has some watchable performances, but nothing "great". Although to his credit, not all of his acting is as bad as what he put out in The Punisher, so he's at least a worthy candidate for Most Improved.

The signs of a bad movie list

Oh, I'm sure the Dolph is a good dude. He also happens to be very well-educated and probably extremely intelligent. I think he studied at MIT. He's just not someone whom I'd consider to be a solid foundation for a good movie. His delivery leaves a lot to be desired. I know English isn't his first language, but it wasn't Arnold's either. And look at how well he turned out!

    The Dark Tower (2017)

It comes out tomorrow. I am yet to read a good review. Looks like another Stephen King trainwreck. It's amazing how films based on his books can either be amazing...or hot garbage. They somehow condensed eight or so books into a 95-minute film instead of a longer movie (it was originally over 2.5 hours) or GOT-like series. A series is going to be developed later, which makes one wonder why they bothered with a film at all. ($$$$$) It's been in development since 2007, and this is the result. Not only was it in years-long development hell, but there were also significant post-production issues (see below). Test audiences in October 2016 gave it such poor marks (too confusing) that Sony spent $6 million for reshoots to give Idris Elba's character more back story. It went through three directors...J.J. Abrams, Ron Howard, Nikolaj Arcel. It also churned through production companies. Stephen King had final veto power over creative decisions. Per the first link below, he's a fan of the final cut. Oscar (1991)

You reminded me of this film a year to the day after I commented a recommendation for it. I think this film is worth doing, but now for a different reason...the fact that a lot of people seem to think Oscar is actually good! It might make for some interesting debate, especially if they can find a guest who likes the movie. There are sooooo many 5-star reviews on Amazon. There are only five 1-star reviews, and they're more about packaging issues than the actual film. There's over 500 reviews!!! What am I missing? I think even Siskel or Ebert gave the movie 3 out of 4 stars.

Episode 168 - Hard Ticket to Hawaii: LIVE!

I gave it a listen. It'll take some getting used to after listening to the more traditional true-crime podcasts. Definitely worth trying out, but I don't think it'll unseat some of my favorites. I don't think this is the podcast that I listened to before where I thought it was terrible and turned it off before making it through the first episode, so that's a good start!

Episode 168 - Hard Ticket to Hawaii: LIVE!

Before I read this opinion, I actually recalled an all-female murder/mystery podcast that I listened to some time ago but couldn't make it through the first episode. It was more annoying than anything. I'm going to have to listen to the first episode of this one to see if that's the one. I'm starting to think that's it, which is really disappointing after hearing Karen on HDTGM.

Episode 168 - Hard Ticket to Hawaii: LIVE!

Yeah, I think Savage was a little to quick with her "that's adorable" shtick when Karen was making a point. I just liked how she described things. I think she was one of the best non-all star guests that they've had in a while. Thanks for the warning on her podcast! Outside of HDTGM and CBB, I listen to a lot of true-crime podcast, so hopefully I can handle the cases. I'm actually not sure how much I'll like it being done with comedy sprinkled in. I've listened to True Crime Garage and one of those guys thinks he's hilarious and witty, but he totally ruins the show.

    The Dark Tower (2017)

This is good context. I didn't realize that the intention is as a sequel to the books rather than a film of the books. Regardless, it sounds like the longer, 2 1/2-hour version would have been more appropriate to tell the story. I still think a better format would be doing more books as a series would have been ideal...start with a condensed version of the books and then get into the sequel. Overall, it just feels like this was made overly complicated by too many hands and minds in the proverbial kitchen.
