Musical Mondays Week 22 Bugsy Malone

Like everyone else has said... I liked that it was a more "adult" story being told through a kid perspective. I thought most of the kids did a good job / were funny. But I also had a hard time focusing after about 30 minutes--- once the fun of the kids/ kid perspective wore off. I don't know if it was the plot that made the fun wear off? But I also wasn't digging the adult singing voices with the kids lip syncing.

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

She's All That is actually: She's All That- the bet is he can make her popular/ the prom queen My Fair Lady/ Pygmalion- the bet is to be able to teach her to speak proper English / make her presentable in high society. Not to say Guys and Doll's bet was not also inspired by Pygmalion since (I think) it came first? Pygmalion first went to stage in 1913 (Sorry for always bringing up My Fair Lady any chance I get, lol... it's one of my favs)

    Episode 171.5 - Minisode 171.5

I'm still getting used to Stitcher (I was using Howl before). And while Howl would sometimes not open/ take forever to load or play/ sometimes crash while I was using it... I actually miss it and think I liked more than Stitcher? Howl's search function I like way better at least. Cause I liked being able to search for certain eps by searching a name of the guest. Like I like listening to eps of different podcasts when they have guests I like (like Scheer, June, Zouks, PFT, Aukerman, etc) Or I relisten to a lot of Harris Wittels' appearances on Comedy Bang Bang. I've been introduced to other podcasts this way by listening to people's guest spots. And can't seem to search that way on Stitcher, or maybe you can and I just don't know what I'm doing, lol.

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Found this on IMDb (under factual errors): https://en.wikipedia...derbilt_Whitney So he meant a polo player/ team? or horse racing? I'm not sure.. but he got the colors wrong. EDIT: found this https://www.lilliputworld.co.uk/products/britains-racing-colours-famous-owners-american-issue-c-v-whitney

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Yeah, I get their relationship made sense at the time. But still wish there was more charm to these characters. Or some sharper dialogue like there was in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. And speaking of, I saw another potential/alternate casting on IMDb : I think Jane Russell would be an interesting Sarah.. but kind of hard for me to picture.

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Yeah, I think Sarah forgave Sky since she knows he actually won the bet.. because he did take her to Havana. But Sky told Nathan he didn't take her. So she realized he wasn't a total bad guy? I get that she could forgive him but I don't think that means she should marry him, lol. I wasn't totally down for their relationship, but I did like it more than Nathan/Adelaide's. Their relationship felt pretty one sided. The ending felt a bit rushed to me (but I'm not saying I want it to be longer..). I had a hard time getting through the last bit as well...But like everyone else has said, I did enjoy the music/ songs. And the dance number in the nightclub (before the fight broke out) I liked a lot. The characters I did not care for too much, so it did prevent me from really enjoying. And speaking of the fight.. I was shocked Sarah was hitting people and throwing punches, lol. Guess she's an aggressive drunk?

Musical Mondays Week 21 Guys and Dolls

Idk, none of them felt that dangerous to me honestly. I think Gene Kelly is way more charming and overall more likeable than Brando. And I'm able to forgive Kelly's characters more if they have unredeeming qualities since he's charming. I wasn't fully on board with the Sky/Sarah relationship. ^I agree with all this. And if it was GK instead-- it'd make more sense for Sister Sarah to fall for him. Cause GK is charming AF.

I would've liked this way better if Gene Kelly was Sky.

  12. I was about to respond to tom, but saw you revealed your pick! I don't think I've seen before but I'm familiar with some of the songs. What came to mind when you said 2 superstars and seedy industry was Moulin Rouge (which I know you like and have mentioned possibly giving the MM treatment) or La La Land came to mind... and even Chicago..? 2 stars and seedy industry can be taken a bunch of ways, so I figured I was off. But thought Moulin Rouge could be a good guess. But nice pick ! Looking forward to it!
  13. Every Monday MM gets me all anxious/excited, but also scared..
  14. Ok so I was reading the wiki about the Chicken Ranch and I thought this was interesting: I never knew what that song was about. But honestly.. I didn't totally know the lyrics to the song, since it's not really lyric heavy. And I always mainly liked the song for the guitar part (as well as the haw haw/ hmm hmms , lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vppbdf-qtGU But here are the lyrics:
  15. Yeah, I wasn't sure what she meant either. It makes more sense now.. that they're sad & disappointed, but still optimistic.. But idk it's still kind of strange to me that closing the Chicken Ranch is like a hard candy Christmas? They just lost their jobs and have to get out of town! You'd think they'd be more devastated.
  16. I wasn't sure what hard candy Christmas meant, but also read this when I was looking thru the trivia IMDB page that: So you're pretty on point!
  17. I'm now imagining Willie Nelson in those... Glad it was Burt instead.
  18. Like tom said, I wasn't sure what to expect. Since I have never heard of the movie before now. I also enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Looking at the IMDB page it says some other actors were considered for Ed Earl and Miss Mona: I don't think I would've enjoyed nearly as much if Willie Nelson or Gene Hackman were Ed Earl. And especially if someone else was Miss Mona.. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed very much if there was no Dolly.
  19. Think that is my favorite as well. But my favorite lyric in all the songs is probably "stop that copulation, loveless copulation" in "Texas has a Whorehouse in it" haha
  20. I recognized her from Billy Madison, lol
  21. I watched this last night, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.. But
