Yeah, I couldn't remember if it was a bomb to be honest. I thought it was but this movie only got 50% attention from me. But you would think this city had a bomb squad. Someone on the force would have scoured the site. We can write it off as Jerry Orbach purposefully mishandled the case, but that really feels like lazy writing. At least have the case buried or in some bushes 50 feet away. Not under the most obvious hiding spot in the immediate vicinity of the explosion.
-
I know Jerry Orbach is sabotaging the investigation, but it seems weird that the police didn't thoroughly check the playground to find a briefcase filled with money. Certainly the murder site would have some police check out the area for evidence. A briefcase under a merry go round should have been noticed. Unless the crime scene investigators are in on the crime with Jerry Orbach, this is sloppy police work.

Amy & Paul visit 1953’s Japanese generational drama Tokyo Story! They discuss the unique, still-life-inspired style of director Yasujiro Ozu, learn how the film became regarded as a masterwork by future generations of directors, and ask if the children of the central characters are actually villainous or just human. Plus: Which novelty single was huge in America when Tokyo Story was in theaters? This is the second episode in our Kinspooled series on “effed up families”; next week’s film is Eve’s Bayou! Learn more about the show at unspooledpod.com follow us on Twitter @unspooled and Instagram @unspooledpod, and don’t forget to rate, review & subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Spotify. You can also apply to be a guest on our upcoming game show Screen Test at unspooledpod@gmail.com!

The still of Gnorm in the tubi preview was enough to really turn me off the movie. It grossed me out. I appreciate how well made and acted Gnorm was by the puppeteers but Gnorm was was too much. Very Mac and Me kind of nauseated. I agree with everything they said with the actors; they really were great.

"Sometimes the earwolf boards suck ass" - Paul Scheer Cool. Thanks, Paul. It was really cool of you to say that. I think it's fine that you spend more time on your discord than the message boards. I didn't join these boards for interaction with the hosts. It makes more sense to be on discord or twitter because more people are on those platforms. They are newer and fresher and message boards are slowly dying. I use discord regularly and joined Paul's discord (but am not posting because I'm not vibing with it which is totally fine). It seems incredibly rude to the people running the message boards and the people who post here who have made as welcoming a community as I've found on the internet. The only time the boards have been bad are 1. When outsiders come to post once to complain anytime a lesbian is a guest on the show then never ever post again and 2. the one time they were down to change servers (which is a totally understandable thing). So, I don't know what Paul is talking about on saying the boards "suck ass" but there's no way to hear it that's not insulting. Because in no way do they suck ass.

I think this has always been the case. When I signed up, I had trouble just posting for some reason. I thought maybe I missed a confirmation email or maybe there was a wait time to limit bots or something. I sent a message to support and never heard back. I eventually just made a different account.

It looks like you can still access the forums from the front page, but it only leads to the main forums (which is logical). While I would necessarily think the episode specific thread needs to be linked from each episode's page, I do think at least linking to the podcast's specific forum would make sense.
-
I might want to walk back some of my defense of the forums. I wasn't aware you couldn't reach them from the front page since I just have them bookmarked. So, I generally don't go to the front page at all. That's technically not an issue with the forums I guess but it's an issue.

Musical Mondays Week 109 Preview (Cinco DeNio's pick)
grudlian. replied to Cinco DeNio's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Yeah, I meant to watch it this weekend and couldn't find it on tubi. I completely blanked that I could probably just rent it until Cameron mentioned it. -
Yeah. If people want to watch it, go for it. It's just a kind of poorly made drama instead of something crazy as I recall. Had they cast a little person instead of Gary Oldman, it would just be a boring movie.
-
Tiptoes is not the most fun watch. Granted, I watched it by myself, but not sure how well it holds up to group watch making fun of it.
-
For sure this last part. Discord is fine. Message boards are fine. I like both and, even though they can overlap in function a lot, they don't have to. Maybe they shouldn't and maybe they can. It was really just the "earwolf boards suck ass" said in a, as I heard it, not a joking at all tone. Promote discord all you want but not at the expense of us and the people who run/moderate these boards for earwolf. I've never run one but if you open it to the public as an HDTGM board, that's probably a lot of work to moderate or even maintain a sentence of control of.
-
For sure. I think in depth discussion is dependent on the size of the board as much as anything else. I've had some in depth discussion on discord, but something the size of Paul's discord is probably going to be difficult. Even on a message board. Presumably the GEOSTOOOOORM!/KUMITE!!!! posts go away because how often can you realistically say that? But, I guess, if people are having fun, let them have fun.
-
It's good he clarified that but that definitely didn't come off as a joke. He's joked about the boards before and it's been fine and I've defended it as jokes. I'll agree with him and almostaghost that discord is a much friendlier platform for phone use. I think it's a much more robust format because it allows voice chat and streaming. So, bemoaning discord over message boards is a bit like arguing for myspace in the year 2021. As you said earlier, he could have just promoted the discord without the dig on the boards. The "don't spread this misinformation" is a real " this is fake news" kind of claim though.
-
I believe the default view of the boards is now what it used to be. I don't know how long it's been this way, but I suspect a long while. I get message boards are outdated but, honestly, discord functions almost exactly like a message board. It doesn't quite allow for different topics as well in a long term scenario (at least for different episodes of HDTGM). I use discord. So, this isn't just old man yells at cloud. If he's not into message boards and prefers discord, fine. If he said message boards in general suck, fine. But to say this one in particular does, it's a jerk move.
-
Yeah, I don't know if Paul still does the text messaging thing, but I considered texting him just to (respectfully) say how rude that was to us and the people who run the boards.

Episode 256 - 10 Year Anniversary Reflections and Burlesque
grudlian. replied to SlidePocket's topic in How Did This Get Made?
My opinion is that both companies were wrong. I think crunch is dumb and Rockstar shouldn't be doing it. Every game they release is functionally an event and they could push it back whenever they want and still get a few billion dollars. They have no excuse for crunch unless we're talking the last couple weeks. As for the horse testicles thing, I remember Rockstar getting laughed at way more than anything for including that; anyone seriously complaining would have been laughed at would be my guess. CDPR was supposed to release this many times but back in April was the first serious release date. They weren't just putting polish on a game for nine months that crashes three times in 65 hours. I also refuse to believe there wasn't crunch time if they kept pushing it back but coincidentally made the pre-Black Friday sales in a pretty buggy state. I'm normally fine trashing gamers because they are the whiniest group of people over the most minuscule complaints. I've seen enough videos of very weird stuff far outside of normal open world quirks or from friends I trust to be honest that this isn't just gamers overreacting. But, again, I haven't played it and I'm going largely on what people I know have said. -

Are you playing on a PS4 (or possibly Xbox One)? Everyone I've seen saying it's not that bad or no major issues are playing PC or current gen consoles. The only person I know who played it on PS4 said that it's about as bad as people are saying. As someone who wasn't particularly interested in ever playing it, I don't really care too much how well it plays but it certainly seems dishonest that CDPR wouldn't let reviewers play on consoles and the consoles are having issues. That isn't a coincidence in my mind. -

I played righ Control last month, I'm glad to see someone else who found the notes to be not helpful. I liked the game okay but by the time (I assume) they explained anything, I gave up trying to follow the plot. -
Musical Mondays Week 108 The Muppet Christmas Carol
grudlian. replied to Cinco DeNio's topic in How Did This Get Made?
The first time I saw it, it was included. Shortly after that, I found out from friends that it was originally cut and I'm not sure any version I've watched since then has it. I've never missed it. I just think it's weird that every few years, there's a story about "here's the song you didn't see!" when it was very available on multiple formats. -

I'm curious what people think of the song When Love Is Gone. It was cut from the theatrical version but it's sometimes on home media and streaming versions of the movie. I think the Disney+ version includes it. Personally, I don't like it since it doesn't fit the feel of the rest of the movie. -

This is probably the best version of A Christmas Carol. It makes me wish Michael Caine also did a straight version just to see what it was like. -
Episode 255. A Very Nutty Christmas
grudlian. replied to Elektra Boogaloo's topic in How Did This Get Made?
That makes more sense. There's a lot of visual bits. I really recommend anyone watch it if they can because there a ton of things that would be classic bits. -

I'm curious what the audio error is. Because they could easily rip the audio from the live show itself to edit. Not the best way to do it but certainly serviceable. If they can put out Top Dog and Theodore Rex, this should be easy.
