You aren't kidding. Guttenberg wasn't in another movie for five years except Three Men And A Little Lady a few months after this. For a guy who was arguably the biggest star in the US a couple years earlier, that's a huge dropoff. I wonder if he was taking a break for a while then couldn't ever get it back.

I definitely understand why this movie has a great reputation. I liked it quite a bit the time I saw it but I understand the criticisms from a technical look at it. I didn't realize this was meant to be a cheap B movie and, had it gotten a decent budget, I'd probably push for it on the list. But with its ideas being examined better in other movies that are better filmed in the same genre, I'm good leaving it off. I'd keep this on to leave off Stage Coach if I had to. I never got the appreciation for that other than being earlier than a lot of similar movies.

This is an unsubstantiated claim but supposedly someone asked about it at a live show. Paul supposedly said his current working relationship with Don Cheadle is why it hasn't been released. I think we should respect the decision if this is the reason since I don't want this show to directly impact any of the host's success.

Did anyone else think her "apartment" was an employee break room when they first showed it? All the stuff like the pay phone and arcade game, being attached to the gym seems much more like a break room than someone's home. I definitely didn't realize until much later that she lived there. Don't start this again!

Meet The Fockers is the second one. Little Fockers is the third one. I'm in the same boat though. I obviously know who Barbra Streisand is, but I've seen very little of her actual work. If we hadn't done Hello, Dolly, I wouldn't understand her appeal at all. I've hated the other stuff I've seen her in.

I was curious how much force it takes to crush a golf ball like the ninja does with his bare hands. It varies by brand but, according this this video, the weakest took 19613 newtons of pressure. According to this site, "excellent" grip strength is 141 pounds of force which is about 627 newtons. I like all these options. I think AFI would be more likely to put Terminator 2 on over Terminator but I'd probably be fine with both being on to be honest. Since we have repeatedly had the discussion of "too much from one director or genre on the list", we'd then be pretty heavy on 80s dystopian science fiction and three James Cameron movies. One thing I think was interesting was Gene Siskel saying anyone could do the special effects in Blade Runner. My question is why hasn't anyone else done it? Why didn't anything look this good for a very long time? Is it purely because it was kind of expensive and mostly a failure until much later? There's always talk of how influential Blade Runner is but nothing looks like it. Nothing sounds like it. Nothing feels like it. I'd say the special effects boom of the 80s is more likely tied to residuals of Star Wars (and availability of computers) than anything else.

I'm kind of with you on this. I think the story/characterization can be thin. Amy's complaint that I can't imagine them when the camera isn't on them is spot on. It is such a great visual/aural movie that it kind of needs to be on here since there isn't anything like it. The closest two are Brazil and 2001. All three are a bit bigger than the sum of their parts in that their experiences more than something you can totally describe. I do think Deckard being a replicant or not is important to what story is here though. If you're watching just for pure emotional experience, you're right that it isn't important. But I also included the poll partly to be funny since it's such a "big deal" when discussing the movie. I didn't realize it would force anyone to answer both or neither question. I also thought it would be funny to have a poll on which version is best with, idk, 5 options and now I'm glad I didn't add that. I second this motion. RoboCop is a great movie.

This is a good interview and it kind of threw me to hear he was working with Megan Thee Stallion. I don't know if he produced her album but this sounds like it was way before she blew up. I've never really looked into his production work but this makes me curious who he's worked with that I never knew about. I've also wondered how much, if any, this movie had to do with the final album happening. I never really read much about what got them back together but I always suspected this movie helped a bit.

Oof, yes. You are correct. I don't mind people disagreeing with the hosts. I disagreed with Amy on parts of her Goodfellas criticisms. But when someone comes on, first post complaining, I immediately get red flags due to the sheer number of first time posters who have to disagree with a woman.

I welcome anyone coming to the Unspooled boards even if they disagree with Amy. I generally agree with her but I've found nitpicking a bit much sometimes as well. So long as you log on (or create an account) just to complain about Amy and then never post again which happened with Goodfellas (and had happened here with several women guests).

I watched this the year it came out but didn't watch it again this week. But I was curious how different it feels now that they got together for one last album (which is fantastic if anyone hasn't heard it) and Pfife dying. My recollection is this ended on a note of "well... that was the story and nothing will bring the guys together again." So, knowing it wasn't the end and having a real end probably makes it feel a lot different.

If I were ever going to text Paul, this would be the reason. I think that's why I misread it. I'm annoyed by the decision but I can at least understand why, to an extent, why they are doing Transformers. I just wish they had chosen a better movie to mail a thousand copies to HDTGM. Honestly, they are doing A Sound Of Thunder which is debateably my least favorite movie of all time. And I'd rather they do that than me sit through Transformers 2.

I'm glad she vetoed it. I hope they never do it. I'm fine with suggesting or sending a movie to them. But when they very plainly say they won't do it, leave it there. I can appreciate how much this escalated even but that's about it. Maybe I'd have been more on board if it was a movie I wanted to watch but not much. I'd rather them not give in and encourage this again.

I've spent some time this morning watching 3DO commercials in hopew of figuring out which one Paul might have auditioned for. Fortunately, the 3DO failed pretty early and almost all the commercials were voice over graphics. I can't confidently say this commercial was the one Paul auditioned for, but it seems likely.
