It never occurred to me that kids don't get/see E.T. anymore. I definitely saw it in theaters but am young enough to not remember seeing it then. It was huge through the entire 80s though. So, for the younger posters here, did you grow up watching this? Are people here showing it to their kids? Also, this isn't necessarily proof that Spielberg is the greatest loving director, but people winning Oscars sure like him. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-steven-spielberg-is-thanked-775639

Musical Mondays Week 47 Stage Fright

Ok. I got it up until Meat Loaf killed the brother. But I'll blame that on just not paying attention instead of not getting it. -

HE WAS THE MURDERER?!?! I thought the murderer was the twin. I...uhhh...I feel really stupid. EDIT: You just mean the most of Minnie Driver right? I knew that but if he murdered everyone else, oh jeez, I'm an idiot. -

On one hand, I noticed the poster. On the other hand, I had no idea they were twins. -
If you heard there was a band called Travis Bickle Band, there is zero percent chance this is what you imagined them sounding like.

What boring camp did you go to? My camps were getting 1-2 murders a day. -

I know this isn't important to the movie but I really want to nail this down. How old did the main girl look when Minnie Driver was killed? 6? 7? 8? I'm not good at telling kids' ages. We can add the 10 years since the murder. -

You're right. I was more commenting on you saying the girl looked 16. She could be meant to be 16 but she also works at the camp. I don't know anything about camps like this but aren't counselors and employees typically older? I figured she was supposed to be 18. -

The main girl was 26 in real life. I don't remember who the director was but, if it's whi I think it was, he was 29. I definitely didn't think many of the famous campers looked closed to the intended ages. -
Musical Mondays Week 47 Stage Fright

Did anyone else assume the killer was Minnie Driver the whole time? When they revealed it was the other cook, it made sense. And they likely only had Driver for a day or two. It felt like they were doing this silly, over the top story then it was a conventional reveal. If you're going to be over the top, get crazy with a back from the dead killer. -

All of this. When I'm Gay started, I had to look when the movie was made. 2014 is way too late for people to be making lol, musicals are gay amirite??? I think they tried to play it off with the actually gay character comment on it but too little, too late. -
When I found out Confidante is about a guitar, I was so disappointed.

I didn't know the story behind Great Day. That's kind of interesting. I think there's something about the production that they tried to make all the songs fit together soundwise. So it feels like a cohesive album instead of a bunch of songs that don't sound like they belong together if that makes sense. I literally could not, for a million dollars, tell you anything about Despite Repeated Warnings. I remember thinking it's okay but it is forgettable like the whole album. I found a bunch of videos youtube where Paul discusses every song. It's mildly informative but it's not going to make you like anything any more.

I guarantee Caesar Rock is from a jam session or experimenting in the studio. The rest of the album feels too written to originate from jams because Paul jams always sound like Used To Be Bad or Really Love You. Just generic 1950s three chord rock/blues. Can you imagine how dire the jam session that resulted in I Don't Know would have to be? As for Flaming Pie, remember Great Day? It was an old song that Paul dug up and recorded. Do that! Please. I know Paul has hours of unreleased songs or obscure b sides or only got released as bonus material on the archive remasters. Record some of these so they sound similar enough for a cohesive album.

I've listened to it again. It has two fundamental problems. 1. It's an hour long with 16 tracks (18 if you got the Target bonus tracks). That's a long album and it's really long for every song to sound really really similar. Cut this down to 10-12 songs, maybe 40 minutes and it's already better (Brazil and Caesar Rock go first). 70s Paul had better songs and wasn't putting out 16 song albums. He was cutting better songs than literally any song on here. 2. This is an album of album tracks. There are no singles here. Fuh You and Come On To Me have the only memorable melodies but are killed by the lyrics. So, there isn't one song that is good all the way through. There are some songs with better lyrics but forgettable melodies. I could go on and speculate why Paul thought this was good or why he put this out. But that's all guessing. It's not his worst album but it's definitely lower half of his albums.

Next movie is Beastly.

The good news is the tour will be 90% old songs and 5 Egypt Station songs. But you're really worrying me about whenever I listen to this again.
-
This is the one song that struck me as a big no thank you
-
I wasn't paying any attention to the lyrics. Just how it sounds. But the lyrics on the three singles were not good. So, this isn't surprising to hear. Especially since it seemed like he was trying to be provocative and shocking. Paul, no one is listening to your newest work for sex talk.
-
Don't feel bad. I only listened to it as background while I was making supper. So, I don't have any real concrete opinions yet. Nothing stuck out much though good or bad.
-
Cameron H (or anyone else who is cool), have you heard Egypt Station yet? I think it's perfectly fine but nothing ground breaking. It's in line with Paul's last few albums but lacking a really good single.

I can understand not liking the character of Travis Bickle. He's unlikable. And it's uncomfortable to watch him and his actions. That's totally fair. I think the big thing that makes this watchable is the movie never really sides with Travis. He clearly makes people uncomfortable. He's clearly unhinged. The movie is sympathetic with him to a point but the movie still portrays him negatively. Even though he is a hero at the end, I think the movie is criticizing society the over lauding Travis. If the movie did side with him or his actions, I'd probably not care much for the movie.

Kink shaming is real. People will say things like "Man, furries (or insert some other turn on) are fucking weird and I don't get why anyone would do that. They are so gross" is kink shaming. That doesn't mean someone is forcing me into being a furry when I don't want to. I understand that people have kinks that others aren't comfortable with. People shouldn't be forced into sex they don't want or enjoy. That said, I'd leave this person. With bug chasers being real and AIDS being real, I'd be very wary of someone who brought that up in a first sexual encounter without discussing it first.
