  1. Having now watched Boss Baby and Ferdinand, I'm going to walk back my mild defense of Ferdinand. It's not a good movie. I liked the beginning and Cena was fine. The rest is very mediocre. The one child in the auditorium laughed a lot though.

HDTGM Movies Yet To Come (Possibly)

Didn't Paul say on the boards they would do it? This was around the same time they mentioned Howling 2 I think.
  3. I haven't seen Ferdinand but it has decent reviews. I assume I wouldn't like it as much as Lego Batman. But people are reacting like it's utter trash. We could also be arguing just as much for Mary And The Witch's Flower which is wonderful.
  4. Other than the animated feature section, I honestly don't have major complaints about the Oscars this year. Some minor quibbles but everyone nominated for a major award is worthy (Im assuming for Denzel since I didn't get to see Roman J Israel).
  5. It's been a super long time since I've seen this when I was super into Pink Floyd. It will be interesting to revisit while sober.
  6. I might be wrong but I think this movie says only titanium kills werewolves. Isn't that why Christine Lee makes a big deal about having titanium knives? I don't know why the movie made up this rule but they did.
  7. Yeah. I definitely misread what you meant there. I don't think coyotes attack often without provocation, I still wouldn't want to test that when there is a recent rash of possible coyote attacks
  8. This was kind of my point earlier. Karen turned into a werewolf in front of people...on tape...at a news broadcast. No one should be surprised werewolves exist least of all Karen's bother and coworker.
  9. Paul loves Fister Robotio. Fister Roboto on the other hand...
  10. Hmmm. This is piquing my interest. I'm not sure how I'd feel walking out of a store with an armful of Sweet Valley High books.
  11. One thing that is brought up in the episode is whether or not this is a vampire movie rewritten to be a werewolf movie. Vampires and werewolves have a lot of overlap. While most books, movies and folklore allow vampires to shape shift into bats, other common things they can change into are mist or fog, and wolves. Even Bram Stoker's Dracula has Dracula turn into a wolf. I think I've only heard of vampires turning into wolves not bipedal, anthropomorphic wolves we typically associate with werewolves. But some werewolf stuff involves people just turning into regular looking wolves. Vampires can also be killed by silver depending on the story and folklore. Silver is typically not fatal to vampires unless there is a restriction of some kind such as 100% pure silver or the silver has to pierce the heart. Otherwise silver seems to just makes vampires weak or sick. My understanding is silver as a way of killing monsters in folklore was kind of common for centuries and only recently (read: decades) became associated with only werewolves.
  12. I think the swirling stars and altered images are there to trick auto takedown software. Let's say you're Prince and you don't want people putting your videos online. Prince and his employees don't have time to monitor every single Youtube account. Youtube has a content ID tool that scours Youtube for copyrighted material (presumably only from organizations who are threatening or litigious). The tool does all the looking for you and flags anything violating the copyright its looking for. That's why you can't find Prince music on Youtube...or Simpsons clips...or Downfall/Hitler reacts videos...or whatever for very long very easily. To fool the content ID tool, you have to manipulate the audio and video. Flipping the image, putting stars everywhere, zooming in, slowing down the audio makes this all a lot harder. The tool might start looking for reversed images, but it might not find a reversed image if there are stars all over it. I don't know why someone felt the need to do this for Howling 2 which almost certainly has no demand, but they did.
  13. Why is Christopher Lee the first person to tell Not Jamie Lee Curtis and the brother that Karen was a werewolf. Karen died on set during a taping. I can believe the segment never made it to air and the tape was stolen. I can't believe Karen's family never asked what happened to her. I can't believe Not Jamie Lee Curtis didn't ask her coworkers what happened the day Karen died on set. I can't believe a news station didn't ever report on a real life werewolf existing. Someone, somewhere would have said something. Even if the video evidence were destroyed, I would tell everyone that would listen if one of my coworkers turned into a werewolf in front of me.
  14. One thing I think is weird is Paul's story of watching Requiem For A Dream. I worked at a movie theatre for over 15 years. I legit can not even figure out how what Paul described could happen. By the time Requiem For A Dream came out, most theatres nationwide were running a platter system. That means, essentially, the entire movie is built and run as one two hour reel. So, to play the same reels a second time in the same show without stopping before that happened might almost need to be intentional. If the theatre were on a two projector changeover system, it's definitely possible with sloppy booth work. It would be pretty easy to fix almost immediately. If they were on a platter system, I'm having trouble imagining a scenario where it could happen that's not completely ludicrous.
  15. Some people are practically saying "How dare Tig. This is her job" as if y'all never had a day you half-assed it at work. In theory, yes, I would like the guests to be prepared. Tig tried to be prepared and, I'm assuming, didn't really have much time to try to rewatch the movie. Half the last minisode commentary were multiple people (myself included) saying that this one is kind of hard to even get a hold of for a reasonable price (PS - it's on Vudu for $2.99 to rent). So, let's all get some perspective on this thing that is literally not even a deal let alone a big deal. Yes, if I were a guest on this podcast, I would have seen the movie. I would have seen it multiple times and had a ton of notes. I would have been super prepared. You know what I wouldn't be? Naturally funny. That's why I'm not on this podcast and Tig Notaro is. She was funnier in this than some guests who were prepared. I listen to HDTGM because it's funny and she was funny. So, I got my money's worth on this one. If you don't think Tig was funny, that's fair. I'm not trying to make this a call out to anyone or anyone in particular even though this probably reads exactly like that.
  16. I wish they'd come to Chicago too because it's within ready driving distance. I just know it would be sold out before I could get tickets though.
  17. For sure. Christopher Lee isn't phoning it in here and he easily could have. Part of it is simply the gravitas of being Christopher Lee but he's still acting his role.
  18. Christopher Lee was a Bond villain, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Saruman, werewolf hunter, recorded a heavy metal album, nazi hunter (not just a military man oin WWII,but literally hunted nazis), Star wars villain. When you condense his life, it reads like a mythic hero confer to life. If you told me he fought a for real cyclops, I'd at least consider it plausible.
  19. EDIT: Paul mentions the thing I added. So, here's the highlight of the movie: Christopher Lee in fitting in at a punk rock club.
  20. Buy this. It's absolutely worth way more than that. It's good enough that I bought multiple copies on DVD.

    Episode 179.5 - Minisode 179.5

When I checked, you could watch one episode for free. Either that or I'm an idiot and didn't look at it right. I'm not sure I could have watched it all this weekend anyway.

    Episode 179.5 - Minisode 179.5

Ugh. I'm so mad I don't have Amazon Prime. And knowing that Gilmore Guys is sort of, kind of continuing is making me angrier.
  23. I'm sorry that I didn't get the chance to watch this week's movie. I've been so busy with other stuff that I couldn't fit it in. I think the best way is to start vaping add in nicotine gum and the patch. When you build up a tolerance to all those, you're ready to cigarettes!

Believe me. I already checked. Not even in their system.

    Episode 179.5 - Minisode 179.5

Honestly, I'd prefer them picking shitty movies in theaters. It's cheaper than $15 unless a bunch of people get together and chip in a few bucks. I get not limiting yourself to free movies (or free on common services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc.). Not everyone has the same services. So, even a free movie on Prime might mean I personally have to pay to stream it. I also get that some people can't even afford an extra couple bucks every two weeks but I don't think it's too bad. Obviously, you don't need to see the movie to listen. Loads of people have no qualms with piracy. Loads of people have more money than I do and think nothing of $15. I don't want to sound super harsh but I think it's a bit outrageous to request.
