Making him watch Garbage Pail Kids is probably pissing him off.

I collected them as well but my parents hated them. So, I never had that many and certainly not a full set from any series. I really liked the Alien Ian one at lot.

I saw Fantastic Four sometime before the Jessica Alba/Chris Evans version came out. My memory is pretty close to Cameron's review. It looks as cheap as it is but I still liked it okay. It's arguably the best Fantastic Four movie yet. I wasn't aware of the documentary. I'll have to check it out.

See my edit. I saw Wicker Tree in his filmography and got confused.

2 appearances: Christopher Lee - Wicker Man, Season Of The Witch EDIT: I was wrong about this. Christopher Lee was in the other Wicker Man but was in some movie called The Wicker Tree around the same time as the Nicolas Cage one.

I had a babysitter convince me to watch Aliens when I was 7. After saying I probably wasn't allowed, he convinced me with "You have to be 17 to watch a rated R movie. I'm almost 17 and I say it's okay." It kind of made sense.

Twins is PG. I know this because my parents let me watch it in theatres and they were really strict too. Getting to see a PG-13 movie without them seeing it first was a very big deal. The first my parents approved was UHF and by the time I wore them down, it was gone from theatres. Even when my parents took me to see The Rock at 16, I felt like I was getting away with something. Oh, definitely not. It wasn't good as a kid and attempting to watch it as an adult a few years ago was legit nauseating.

HDTGM Classics vol 2 Season of the Witch

I found it for $1.00 a while ago. It's currently sitting on a pile of DVDs to sell.

HDTGM Classics vol 2 Season of the Witch

I have Season Of The Witch on DVD. My computer is kind of crappy and prone to slowing down for no reason. I'm not sure how resource heavy hosting on rabb.it is because that might rule me out.
  10. I listened to the first episode today and loved it. Not sure I'll have much to say about it in the message boards but I'll definitely be listening.
  11. Those cats are super cute. Congratulations on the weight loss. I know that can be really difficult to go through.
  12. First of all, I agree with all this and also, I'm a man just to put my perspective in it's proper place. I'd like to hear more how women on the board feel about this though. Second, as pointed out earlier, I don't think Bechdel herself ever meant this to be a legitimate test or certainly not in the way it's caught on. I think it has some validity for seeing trends in large groups of films or for comparisons of groups of films (movies in 2017 compared to past years or action films compared to other genres for examples). Since the test is such a pathetically low bar, one would think that most films pass but the vast majority don't. So, in my mind,it's purely a numbers/statistics measurement of representation not necessarily good representation. The Bechdel test's other benefit is that it's an unquestionable list. Either the film has two women talking to each about something other than a man, or it doesn't. Measuring if a film has complex, nuanced female characters is harder and is much more opinion based. So, the Bechdel test can be used in conjunction with other measurements that might be out there that I'm not aware of. We need both more representation and better representation.
  13. There was an episode recently where Jason interrupts an audience member to say "I know where you're going and not every movie is a Jacob's ladder scenario." I was hoping this was a really good indicator to the audience that it's gotten old. Placing the jacob's ladder scenario into the mind of a snake was at least so ridiculous that I kind of appreciated it though.
  14. Maybe. But after them sounding somewhat serious about Ninja Terminator being one of their most feminist movies, I want to nip any potential in the bud.
  15. Aww shucks I know going into these movies what we're getting into and, for the most part, I'm fine with it to an extent. If someone even wants to excuse it with, "hey, it's a low budget, 80s action movie... what do you expect?" or "it was a long time ago. We didn't know better," I'm fine with that too. But to say this is a feminist movie, get real. Paul and Jason know better and I'm assuming the guests hosts do too. If you're going into one of these clearly misogynist movies, they can either address the elephant in the room or gloss over it. Don't call the elephant the opposite of an elephant though. I like them mentioning some of the problems upfront and throughout. Talking down the "practically rape" director or written by a fifth grader. That's a better way to address it than Chopping Mall. So, there's some progress.
  16. I'm only a few minutes into the podcast but calling this a feminist movie as they do makes me legit angry. Just passing the Bechdel test doesn't make a movie pro women. Just having the women be badasses doesn't make it pro women. The scene that bothered me the most, beyond the "you practically raped me" line, is the scene where the woman held hostage is strung up and tortured with a whip. It immediately cuts to a man having an orgasm so their screams blend together. On one hand, I'm glad June didn't have to watch this but I wish she had to take everyone to task.

If next Friday means August 4, I'm out because of work. Don't feel obligated to change it just to suit me.

    Episode 167.5 - Minisode 167.5

Correction: I guess I am now under the name grudlian. I wouldn't expect a ton of reviews since I'm not really good at reviewing movies but maybe occasionally? I really wish I could import my list of watched movies from icheckmovies.com because, frankly, I don't want to go through the hassle of checking thousands of movies again. I think Paul is willing to talk and respond because conversation is, as you said, civil, measured and intelligent. If it were typical movie website commentary alternating between masturbatory fawning and hyperbolic nitpicking, I'm sure he'd avoid these message boards like the plague. And Cameron H. was erudite enough to get me to watch Monster Trucks. So, uhhhh, there's that too. Feel free to skip King Arthur. It verges on being HDTGM worthy but it's not an enjoyable watch.

    Episode 167.5 - Minisode 167.5

A totally serious review of Monster Trucks I hate myself for saying this but Monster Trucks is not terrible maybe even good. It's definitely better than it's reviews (except for Cinemascore where it inexplicably has an A). If you have kids around 10 years old, they will probably like it. I would push parents toward similarish movies like E.T., the new Pete's Dragon or even Harry And The Hendersons. It's only real problem is that the plot is very tired and predictable. Any adult will be able to see the all the major plot points from about 10 minutes in, but it's a movie for kids. The cast is surprisingly good. Rob Lowe, Amy Ryan, Danny Glover, Thomas Lennon, Jane Levy, Barry Pepper. I know most the cast is here just to take a paycheck but they do a pretty good job with what they are given which is why they're all known character actors. It's acting in a Nickelodeon movie. So, not truly great performances but they all work within the film. I felt bad for Jane Levy because I thought this might kill her rising star potential after great work in Evil Dead and Don't Breathe but she's really good early in the movie. She plays a goody two shoes nerd and you can tell she's giving a consciously quirky performance that isn't painfully quirky until it just devolves into playing the main actor's love interest which is disappointing. I was also mildly disappointed with Thomas Lennon for doing the one shot of his character vomiting that I found to be pointless and distasteful. The science is a bit dodgy even for a movie with underground octopusses but not even HDTGM worthy. Maybe I'm becoming a big ol' softy but any time the monsters were in danger or hurt, I was genuinely kind of upset. Even though I knew everything would work out in the end, I still got emotional. I laughed at a couple of the jokes and laughed a lot at a couple serious moments. So, idk, the movie mostly worked on me. Also, this movie totally gets me and my phone habits: tldr - the movie isn't bad. I might even very cautiously recommend it to parents but Cameron, this should not be your favorite movie of the year. Your kids might really appreciate Get Out or The Big Sick.

    Episode 167.5 - Minisode 167.5

I have seen Criminal. Maybe other people will appreciate it but I thought it was pretty boring. I had to check my records to confirm I had seen it which isn't a good sign. In other news, I got this at work. Time to see if Monster Trucks lives up to the hype! If I haven't posted in a couple hours, assume I've become one with the cosmos.

Changed for the worse. This is assuming I don't get shamed too much by the other staff for watching Monster Trucks.

    Episode 167.5 - Minisode 167.5

We recently got shipped a promo DVD of Monster Trucks at my work (I work at a theatre). If it's still there when I go in, I'll have to grab it and see how much of this treatment Cameron deserves. I love how happy Paul was about guessing the correct pronunciation of Halle. He so rarely gets a win on pronouncing names.
