Episode 55 — Lauren Lapkus, Our Close Friend
Scooby Donkers replied to agata's topic in Hollywood Handbook
OK OK am I too late already? That shouldn't count as a question BTW. 1) Sincere question (don't know if these are welcome, but I've been working on expressing myself directly w/o a protective screen of humor-ish nonsense keeping me at a safe distance): can you guys talk about the joys and difficulties of a career in commercial creativity? Is it hard to maintain creative discipline & do your own personal work in addition to your paid work? Do you have anything left in the tank for your own creative pursuits after working on jokes all day? Is it tough to do this show sometimes as a result? 2) pseudo-joke question (still a little sincere): talking funny--speak on that. Is funny talking just a cop out? You're both good at it. Does that count as legit humor? I love funny talking. Does that mean I have tacky taste in comedy? Does that matter? 3) hilarious joke question: how have your personal, psychological difficulties informed your work as professional humorists? Boy oh boy I don't have "it" today you guys. Posting funny stuff is hard. So I opted to go a different route w my questions. Didn't quite work out but that's okay -

Because of the apparent increase in listenership and the continuing growth of the forum community, I think we should address the serious issue of like inflation. I remember when several likes would make me feel good for a couple days. Now you need whole baskets of likes and you're like waiting in the bread line to buy bread, but instead of bread it's happiness. I'm not even that much of a veteran. I bet you old RSS-era forum guys 'member when a single like would buy you like a month of emotional fulfillment. Those were simpler times- 317 replies

Episode 54 — Clark Duke, Our Close Friend
Scooby Donkers replied to agata's topic in Hollywood Handbook
Iliza, Sean often intentionally misspells the names of upcoming guests when he announces them on the forum, you know, for humor. But not yours. Why do think that is? Is it the "Hollywood politics" I always hear about during awards season? Followup: if you had to say the name Henry Higgins, would you say " 'Enry 'Iggins"? cause your name? from that show? Followupup: Is that good joke? -

I got it too, bizarrely, bc it was v hard to tell where the sincerity ended/began. But you did helpfully confirm my suspicion that you were satires. Plus I'm very smart and good at comedy so I get jokes Buy there was some real discussion of actually great music that I also love. But it's undeniably nerdy shit. Look I didn't have to bring race into it. Anyway also Kool Keith nonsense raps, anyone? Ajz? -

Here's what I've got so far from a very cursory review of the Greenberg ep thread. I think that's the one, maybe a mishmash. 1) I share the general relief at the news of this radio program's ongoing struggle for ratings, bc the inevitable spike in popularity will force me to abandon the show forever. Sadly I'm still certain as ever that popularity is around the corner. 2) Everyone's taste in hip hop music is exactly as refined (and, in an unrelated sense, Caucasian) as we could expect from a bunch of cutting edge nerds posting funny jokes on an unpopular forum. 3) that British show Look Around You was very good and we'll made. 4) I forgot who said it already, but the story about the tup diet people or whatever. I think they actually might have just meant tuppence, like for bread for feeding the birds (Andrew, what you know bout that, that's British, right) Further updates as I catch up -

YOU GUYS I haven't posted in so long. It feels awful, don't try it. But I'm still here and full of deep affection for this entire enterprise. Gimme a minute to catch up on all your dumb posts and I'll rejoin reglar discussions. Miss you xoxoxo Also listen to Greggy's podcast. It's not even really his podcast, he's more like 3rd banana and he just coasts. I find it charming & funny & good -

Sometimes I remember to catch up on VB's tumbr and I'm reminded it's very good and nice and funny. Do you guys do that? You should. or just always be checking it and stop forgetting to check it bc she updates regularly I don't even have a tumbr. this has been a huge misstep, but I don't have it in me to correct this for the foreseeable future. So I'm just promoting VB's tumbr here, among a small group of people who already love her. That's something, anyway. Also, do I have better things to do on a Saturday night? Sometimes I actually do, which is as surprising to me as it is to you. But obviously not right this second. I'm just real, real sleepy though & I like to come on here when I get like that. It's even more loffs -

I honestly don't even know if it's good. It's just so weird and dumb I find it somehow captivating. I try to resist the cool-kids tendency to love something just bc it's unintelligible (or not good), and I think it's very on-point when Sean & Hayes talk about the rise of Random Humor. But still, there's something there in Get A Life. Or not, maybe I'm too easily won over by nonsense. Here's one: Get a Life - S2E12 - 1977 2000: -

Hey you guys remember that episode of Get A Life with Chris Elliot, Handsome Boy Modeling School? And the rap album/group named after it? Which is also good, just like the show? I actually got the album first, then learned about the show. I recommend both, but esp that show, if you can find episodes. It's truly amazing that such a stupid, bizarre show was on normal TV. It's very silly and good -

To piggyback on Andrew's good ideas about funny jokes with initials, what about "HD 1080p," Hayes? I'll break it down: HD is initials but also High Definitions, 1080 is for that sick 1080 you can do on halfpipes shredding mountains, p is for penis bc that's for fuckin -

Oh, I'd also like to address something. There's some nasty rumors going around & I know they can spread like wilefires, so I want to nick this in the butt. Earlier someone made a comment that peaked my interest, how maybe I'm like a dog guy like from the show. I don't remember who said it, probably Tim. I think it comes from deep-seeded stereotypes like, "oh, he's so cute & funny & he likes to run play digging in the yard, so he must be dog." well, that's just close-minded. I'm not dog. I'm a guy. Mostly I'm worried bc I don't want to be spade but for all intensive purposes it's a mute point anyways, since I'm have that surgery to make so my hind legs aren't all crooked, then no one will think I'm dog ever again -
