  1. Superb episode, great guests, well observed comments from people who watched and digested the film. Top work guys n girls. I have to chime in on the video thing.. I would love the live ones taped, since they are special and you use visuals for the audience.. you don't have to show us the movie clips but seeing reactions and the people involved would really make things work better for us unlucky folk who weren't there.

    Into the Mouth of Madness

It's easy to be disappointed in a psychological horror from another decade. The production values, the things that get to you change and its harder to identify with people with archaic haircuts and clothing. Oddly enough i disliked the movie when it came out but a recent re-watch i found i like it a lot better. Movies like The Thing still work because straight up body horror is still icky, frightening and easy to identify with, plus they are in a location where hair and clothing styles are negligible and don't date as badly. When watching a movie it can really help to know what kind of horror movie it is as well as when it was made. I recently watched the original Straw Dogs and while much of it seems visually tame compared to any 90's gore flick the psychological element of home invasion still resonates. A lot of studios like to use the generic lables to fool people about what kind of movie you are being offered too.. like The Tourist pretending to be a thriller until its stupidity was called out and they switch to comedy for home sales. I really pisses people off when the go to a movie because X is a comedy actor... so lets pretend this is a comedy movie to get in that actors fans by default. thats my twopenneth.
  3. Plinkett on Red Letter Media have a very solid video critique of this too, as do many podcasts. I'm kinda bored with it now.. just reminds me how sickening the whole thing was.

    Howard the Duck

Nothing says PG kids movie like a pornography reading duck and, effectively, suggested bestiality.

Short Circuit 1 or 2...or both!

How dare you! Next you will suggest the Paul Rubens was wanking in the sound-booth when recording Flight of the Navigator. Short was the feel good hit of two summers.. I believed a robot could cry.. i mean fly.. and ever since i have not been able to look a girl named Stephanie in the eye without smiling

    TRON: Legacy

It is difficult to get 40mins of material from this.. Martin Sheen's shameful performance is either the best or worst thing in it.. and there's the rub.. when you make the sequel to a visual feast of a movie that is beloved and had a revolutionary story.. you better make it all those things.. but in the world of bland, middle of the road PG13 nonsense the best thing should never be a bad Frank-N-Furter impression. I was bored, it was dull with blurry zoomed in action. they made the light cycle race boring! how is that possible even the low-fi original movie chase was more enguaging and you felt for the generic computer people being killed.. this time they were just cannon-fodder... not to mention next to no Tron! might as well have been called Torn Legacy.... see what i did there.

    Southland Tales (2006)

Kelly is so cerebral story-wise its hard to get on film what he is going for..and Darko worked for that very reason. I like many were enamored of his vision and restraint in what was left off the screen. Then i saw the Directors cut.. dear god.. he has no idea why that movie worked.. and misunderstood peoples connection to it. Everything he added in just deaden the already slow pace and reduced Frank's impact with confused shots of clouds and water. I know what he was getting at after listening to his explanation.. and its still needless fluff. He needs a co-director and editor to interpret and craft his material for the masses. With Southland he actually rallied against his detractors and said to understand the movie you need to buy and read my 3 part comic-book series first (available after the films release) and I did read them.. and the film is still a gibbering donkey with a leaden cast playing roles they don't understand. Most baffling to me was the padding of Timberlake miming to a Killers track for no reason obvious to anyone but Kelly. Oh and don't get me started on The Box and Diaz's amazing Virginia accent.

    Hudson Hawk

He was involved in the writing too.. never again it should be noted.. yeah i saw this recently for the first time. Apparently, like The Tourist, it was marketed as an action flick but after the disaster at the box office the home media tried to advertise it as a comedy instead.. even changing the cover wording from 'Adventure' to 'Hilarity' i believe. Fourth wall breaking looks, campy performances and direction that sullied the wonderful Richard E Grant deserve nothing short of being totally ignored.

    Harrison Ford

Firewall is too bland to get material from IMHO.. Temple is dark and campy but worlds better than Crystal Skull. Air Force one i enjoyed at the time.. maybe it hasn't worn well. K-19 had some terrible accents. Morning Glory was about as amusing as its title. Mosquito Coast was disappointing. Not sure he's done a movie so bad its fun really. If you want to see a good rip on Crystal Skull checkout Plinkett's review over on Red Letter Media.
  11. Yeah the script was piss poor and did piss on the characters for no good reason. Some dire casting and unimpressive effects really did make this a horrible attempt at a character cashcow tie in.

    Episode 33 — Abduction

Yeah sorry guys.. i love the show and listen to them multiple times.. but the last show was a mess of gabbling shouts and you covered hardly anything... and, as others mentioned, a lot devolved into personal attacks on actors appearance and sexuality. Worst of all you kept apologizing and encouraging us to pay to see this crap.. did you know people on the production? Felt a lot like you were struggling to come up with real faults in the movie too and doesn't make me want to watch it in a good or bad way. I do like your structure free approach and it often leads to an organic conversations that jump around and is fun, but listing June and Paul start the same point a dozen times before being cut off was irritating to listen to and killed the flow.

In the Name of the King or...

I loved ItNotK.. how can you not love a movie that was made to rip off LotR in character design, scene creation, shooting and editing.. the hubris to base your crappy, but $60m!, movie after one of the worlds most expensive and high production value movie series ever made. Liotta suffering from green screen spazz-out.. Classic! Perlman and Statham as simple farmer / warrior kings. Believable! Loken as some sort of Dryad with the magical ability to rise and fall on vines. Mystical!

    Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)

Eddie Murphy is the master of the career killing movie and magical comeback... i recently re-watched Beverley Hills Cop III.. and read on what a disaster it turned out because the script was poor and Murphy refused to play it as Axel.

    This Means War (2012)

I loathed it from just the poster.. we dubbed it Big face and Oily hair.

    Glitter

I loved how the rhyming slang of the title was lost on most everyone outside of the UK.

    Escape From L.A. (1996)

God yeah.. loved Escape from New York.. and you really need to see LA in the light of NY as there is a lot of self-parody going on that gets lost otherwise.. like the Basketball scene is an obvious pisstake of the fight scene in NY. I like most Carpenter films in some respect.. even the maligned Vampires, Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness.. only Ghosts of Mars gets my total thumb down for appalling acting from some good, and some poorly cast, actors and some crappy effects/miniatures.
  18. C&A was crappy and a mess but yeah hard to really rip apart for its blandness. Hitchhikers Guide... was rightly torn apart by many for being soulless and aside from one knitted scene pretty boring. Being British and the right age a lot were offended at how poor the design and execution was over the original radio play and popular TV series.. the 2 saving graces where Stephen Fry as the book and Sam as Zaphod.. even if they totally copped out on the second head. PS.. for Sam lovers.. watch "Choke" it is a superb character piece and while not as well known as Moon.. its really fun and touching in the vein of Wes Anderson.

    Charlie's Angels

Certainly fits the bill for bad time / big budget.. I personally detest Diaz as an 'actress' and was forced to watch the first one under protest.. and my mind remains the same.

    Titanic II (2010)

I think this was DVD only The Asylum film minus Nic Cage and therefore ineligible for the cast.. by the loose rules they mention on the show.. and really if it says The Asylum on the cover.. avoid at all costs unless you want and need the pain.

    Twisted (2004)

Trouble is with Twisted it is painfully bland to a fault.. not sure theres the material in it.. nothing happens you haven't seen or read before and the ending is painfully obvious less than halfway through. Reminded me of Taking Lives which at least tried to be confusing but really was stupidly bland and rote.

    Legion

Done to death on other podcasts.. not sure there's stuff not covered really.. mind you.. take any Paul Bettany movie really and you can have fun taking it apart.. Firewall is a good example.

    Revolver or Jumper

Jumper or Push or Wanted... they are so similar in tone or idea or look i get them confused... maybe they are a secret trilogy!

    Dreamcatcher (2003)

Proof that when Stephen King poops... the publisher publishes... Its a secret shame that i like this movie.. whats not to like? A retarded Whalberg, Jason Lee toilet or door dilemma, Damien Lewis flipping out, running poop-monsters fleeing missile strikes, massive UFO explosion.. all obvious cinematic gold surely!

    The Rock (1996)

Not a bad movie as such... could have been Con-Air cheesy.. even if the ending was equally stupid. Not a favorite but certainly not bad.
