Episode 70.5 — Minisode 70.5
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I think Indiana Jones found something there. A skull maybe... -
That would have been around the time of his "Behind the Music", where he became the poster boy for "Jesus, don't fuckin' be like this guy" and had some sort of notoriety for that brief period of time. Like EVERYONE on that show, he'd straightened out and was making new, terrible music before returning to being a complete fuck-up.

I'm afraid that's where you're wrong. You do not own this movie. No, this movie owns YOU. It owns us all! -
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to Darian's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
So which Power Ranger was the one that recently murdered some folks? Was it one of the actual Rangers, or was it some kid sidekick character or something? -
They've been able to use some pretty great filmmakers though that might not necessarily be big draws themselves, which kind of takes some of the pressure off I would think. If it's a hit, it raises the director's stock I'm sure, but if it isn't, I don't think anyone's going to hold it against them.

Since the Wright/Pegg/Frost films have been greatly admired but have played to somewhat of a niche audience, I wonder if they'll downplay or at least NOT put Wright's name all over the marketing for "Ant Man" when that actually happens? Above all, it will still be "Marvel's Ant-Man", and the people that know of Wright will know of his involvement, so it ultimately probably won't make much of a difference. I guess Whedon was sort of in a similar boat, and "Avengers" seemed to do OK.

Episode 70.5 — Minisode 70.5
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I too would have preferred to see something from earlier, as this was pretty much nearing the end of Seagal Phase One (the following year's "Fire Down Below" would be his last theatrical release for quite some time, I think), and they were kind of fucking with the formula by giving him an actual co-star. I think we needed to see Seagal in his prime first to fully appreciate (?) this. Anyway, I'm sure we'll get around to it at some point, and this should still be a fine episode. Have they announced the guest already? I think it would be a total missed opportunity if they didn't get the guy from AICN that wrote "Seagalogy". Maybe I'll try to re-read that this week... -
Episode 70.5 — Minisode 70.5
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Oh, and how about "Sunny" and "The League" show directly opposite of "The Bridge", meaning that FX is is pretty much competing with itself? Granted, people might record one and watch the other or just record both, but taking shows that could co-exist nicely in the same place and pitting them against each other seems kind of counterproductive. -
Episode 70.5 — Minisode 70.5

My cable provider isn't carrying FXX, which doesn't surprise me, as they don't offer a lot of things that have popped up lately (wow, there was a Fox SOCCER Channel that this station's replacing?), even guaranteed money in the bank like HBO Go. Fuck 'em. Anyway, why does FXX exist in the first place? From what the ads have indicated, it's nothing but "The League" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", and a couple other FX shows that eat up 30 minutes worth of airtime. Did they decide they needed that extra time on the FX schedule freed up to squeeze in ONE more airing of "Fantastic Four" or "Iron Man"? Holy shit, maybe they should have taken FXpanol, or whatever the hell it is, and turned that into a Marvel movie channel so that we could actually watch FX programming on FX. Yeah, my cable provider's fucking stupid to begin with, but it doesn't help that the FX people felt the need to split in the first place. -
The thing is, people probably would have forgotten about it completely by now if he would have just stopped bitching about it. Plenty of directors like Smith that are known for smaller films have done a mainstream dud or two where no one even knows they directed them, and it hasn't affected their careers at all. Kevin Smith is now the guy that looks like an asshole to the people with money that could decide whether he gets to direct anything other than his own films ever again, and the direction in "Cop Out" wasn't that great to where he'd be worth taking that sort of risk on.

I haven't seen it yet, I'm sure I'll catch it on cable or something, but from what I've heard in different reviews, John McClane actually makes things WORSE just by being there and becoming involved, like things would have played out OK if he hadn't butted in. Also, he rags on his son for being CIA or whatever, for wanting to save the day, which is something he felt obligated to do for FOUR FUCKING MOVIES. Is that right? Sounds like the character is just an asshole this time around.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to Darian's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
There are about 1.3 million of them, but I think only two of them were released theatrically though. This came out the same day as "Apollo 13" and a certain film starring everyone's favorite pasts robot. -
And then we also got to revisit all of the kills of the series in glorious 3D to the tune of AC/DC during the end credits!
-
That was a pretty good twist though, that it brought it back around to the beginning, putting a more interesting spin on the "Oh good, we messed up Death's design, we're totally saHOLYFUCKINGSHITWHATSTHAT*splat*" endings that the series is known for. In a way, I guess it makes the 4th one even more miserable, because chronologically speaking, it is THE Final Destination like the title says. But really, THAT one is full of stuff like someone dying horribly followed by the girlfriend/boyfriend/whoever seemingly forgetting about it all and going shopping or going to the movies in the very next scene.

If I had that kind of money, I'd have them do commentary tracks on OTHER people's movies. Arnold and Werner talking about "The Room" or something like that would be ALL the awesome.

It's kind of depressing that after the interesting satirical take on his career in "Funny People", which didn't seem to go over too well with folks, that he went right back to doing the same old shit that he (through the writing and direction of Judd Apatow) had made fun of. Hey, he makes a hell of a living doing what he does, but it's almost worse that he stopped and acknowledged the going-back-to-the-well nature of his career, because we know that he knows he's perfectly aware of it. -
I like how Sonja's always saying she doesn't need a man's help, but then she's constantly getting bailed out of trouble by men during the course of the film.

I guess I was just going more for the one that left us the earliest. I think maybe you meant Leif Garrett, because Peter Frampton has done stuff that people still listen to!

The Happening - (it's never happening, but talk about it if you want)
PlanBFromOuterSpace replied to temjeito's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
While I get that, it bugs me when people associated with something that's been ripped on for years don't have the sense of humor to let it go, especially when it's primarily COMEDIANS (you know, people that are renowned for having a sense of humor) that the show seems to deal with. It'd be one thing if a person that the hosts were friends with had gone off and tried something really different, tried really hard, and was really passionate about something and it failed terribly, like if it ended up being a well-meaning dramatic film about a sensitive subject that just wasn't any good and wasn't particularly that person's fault. Not only do we not expect them to go after something like that, but we surely don't expect them to drag the poor friend out and say "So, what the fuck were you thinking?". "The Happening" is not that kind of movie, and again, we're not asking them to take their friends to task for something that had so many things wrong with it, maybe the least of which was their involvement. We just want them to make fun of the fucking movie already, regardless of who the guest is or if we ever get the straight story on why it seems to be untouchable, because this movie deserves an episode. Hell, make it your first ever PREMIUM episode if you want. We'll be there! -

"Three Musketeers" was the movie that all of Nic Cage's hairpieces got together and did on their own after finding new hosts. You think I'm kidding, but take a look at the poster... -
I'd rather he be this generation's River Phoenix, because by my clock that means we've only got to deal with him for about another four more years or so. Tick tock...
