True, but even the next biggest star in the movie, Affleck, was like fifth billed and he had a substantial role in the movie. Mind you this movie came out after Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, and Armageddon, in that order. Two won Oscars, one for himself in that time, and Armageddon was a huge blockbuster, so it's shocking to see him so low on the totem pole. I was almost surprised to not see him listed below the Golden Retriever Demon in the credits.

What I find funny about the cover is that O'Toole is the top billed actor yet isn't in any of the covers or promotional material. Even he knew how bad this was.

Thank you for biting the bullet.

Yeah I could see that, I feel that it was an attempt to make the best out of a shitty situation, but it was a lose/lose no matter what.

I never had too much of a problem with X3 outside of it having to deal with the Phoenix which may have been too big for one movie. I was surprised by how much i enjoyed this movie as the previous Wolverine sucked, though I felt the main villain could have used a bit more of a story besides what he wanted from Logan. The end credit scene was fantastic and I did geek out a bit when the two characters showed up and set up for next year. My only worry is that Days is a huge storyline as well, so I hope that it doesn't get so crammed into a movie that will be probably 2 1/2 hours.

Yeah if Riddick does well, XXX3 would be lit, but I think studios are unsure of Diesel's ability to draw in crowds after he's had so many bombs. I mean Fast & Furious was thought to be on its last leg after the fourth movie and then the fifth one was a huge hit and well received by critics, which led to Riddick getting lit I think. But I think these last two Fast movies have worked due to the sum of all the parts involved rather than just him, so I won't be surprised if Riddick underperforms. At least this movie isn't having a massive marketing campaign like the previous movie and is apparently going back the action/horror roots of Pitch Black, which is at least making me interested in seeing it.

If they do this they need to get Brendan Walsh who on one of last week's Doug Loves Movies episodes, professed his love for this movie as well as the first sequel. It would be amazing to see his interaction with the HDTGM crew who I'm sure would rip this apart.

Drive was polarizing it seems for casual audience members as it critics loved it with a current RT of 93%. OGF is polarizing to critics I feel as the director went so much into the visual aspect of film over dialogue and overt character development, and the movie is pretty artsy in comparison to Drive or Bronson. And I'm not understating it when I wrote that the movie had maybe 10 pages of dialogue as most of it uses the visual aspect to let the audience understand what is happening. The other reason I feel critics hate the movie is that the characters are some of the most morally reprehensible people I've ever seen in a movie. It starts with Gosling's character's brother leaving work to go to a brothel where he tells the pimp he wants an underage prostitute, in the same tone that a person would ask for a cup of tea. When he is refused he asks for the pimp to bring his daughter down for sex which is also refused. THIS IS HOW THE CHARACTER IS INTRODUCED. He then proceeds to go on a rampage in the brothel before leaving to find the sex he is looking for, which ultimately leads to his downfall and the overall progression of the story. The mother is a whole other can of fucked up worms and the "Angel of Vengeance" is one of the most fascinating characters I've seen in a long time. The movie is brutal in its showing of violence, more so than Drive which used quick cuts a lot. This movie shows the nitty gritty of these acts in uncomfortable detail at times. There were times I would have preferred the movie to be more straightforward and not use dreams/symbolism, but it was worth it for me to drive 30 miles to see it in a rundown indie theater in Sacramento, as I did enjoy the movie and its way of storytelling. If you liked Drive and Bronson, you will probably like this, just be forewarned that it a different experience. I also loved the experience of seeing it in the theater that I did as it was very old fashioned. It was a small 4 screen theater that looks like it hasn't changed any of the settings, outside of the sound system since the 50s. I could hear the Way, Way, Back in the theater next door and the theater I was in had one dim light keeping the room from being pitch black. It makes me appreciate going to theaters now as they are so much improved over what they used to be, but it's still nice to remember them. I also got a kick out of seeing the couple that went to this movie. I could tell by looking at them that the guy got his girlfriend to go along by saying "It's the new Ryan Gosling movie" but not telling her what it's about. So when it got REALLY violent and disturbing he would turn and give her a peck on the cheek or lips, almost as if preemptively making up for it once the movie was over.

Was the ending of the movie like I wrote Seanotron? Or did Perry give it away from the beginning?

Aisha Tyler would be a fantastic guest for this movie. Retta couldn't even get through Spice World and that movie was way more bonkers than this movie. Also, as far as the ending is concerned, I only read about it through wikipedia so I knew about the AIDS and being left alone. But is the audience unaware that the marriage counselor is the main character and the twist is that she is the character that she has been talking about?

It can still be watched for the GIANT WTF factors as well as trying to decipher what the hell all these name actors are doing in this fucking movie. Also be on the look out for one of the worst fake tattoos in cinema history.

And it continues. No way does this get discussed on the show. The movie was more artsy than anything, I mean really, there may have been at most 10 pages of dialogue for the entire movie. The movie was polarizing as it got booed by some while receiving a standing ovation from others in the crowd, but that's it.

This summer has been weird with the release dates. Pacific Rim could have been better served if released in June rather than in a crowded July, the few pushbacks that there have been, and releasing movies together featuring the same actors. It's like every studio got together for a big kegger and the guys responsible for scheduling releases did so the following day during their hangovers.
-
Likewise, and I absolutely loved Pacific Rim because of it. The action was superb and it had interesting enough science to keep you involved until the end. And luckily for it, there is a big enough market around the world for Kaiju movies that it should reasonably make a profit, unlike the Lone Ranger which doesn't have as big an appeal outside the US. Yeah I don't know why they thought they could quietly push that sequel out and hope to make money on it. But it seems they are going to release it in a quieter month like March in hopes to make more money with hopefully a stronger marketing campaign. I too was surprised by the success of WWZ and Gatsby, and as far as Wolverine goes I would not be surprised that it does well next week as it comes out basically unopposed against older releases and two new indy releases. RIPD is going to suffer this week not just on bad reviews but for the fact that a lot of new movies were released this week. You have Red 2 that has a built in audience from the first movie, The Conjuring which has been getting good reviews ever since it started on the festival circuit, Turbo the animated bug movie that also stars Ryan Reynolds, and even Only God Forgives which while being more of an artsy movie has some buzz about it with how violent it is and the hoopla surrounding critc reactions to it.
-
Definitely, and I was thinking cult movie as this movie, with almost zero marketing and shit reviews, still somehow made almost 30 million dollars in theaters, and movies have made much less and become cult films.

In a world where movies made by Uwe Boll or the guys who've made basically all the spoof movies in the last decade can have a cult following of any sort, I can see this getting the same. And not for the whole film but whatever skits may have made a person chuckle. What I think got everyone on board was the idea of being able to let loose and do something many wouldn't expect these A-list actors doing in their current state of their careers, with each skit being done by different directors, they thought it could work. And the thing about it is, most of them are really trying in this, but yet it lands flat in most of the skits. Though apparently Bob Odenkirk really struck out with this movie as he apparently did a couple sketches and they were so bad that they were outright cut from the film.

I stand by my statement that there are some decent parts of the movie, not the whole thing mind you, but some parts. -
