Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997)
RyanSz replied to maggotlimbo's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
The main problem with this movie, besides everything, is that it tried too much to be a checklist for fanboys. The first movie was pretty good because it was just the major characters fighting, the basic storyline of the first game. But in between the first and second movie, Mortal Kombat had created such a backstory/mythology for itself that the movie tried to copy that which is impossible for a 90 minute movie. Then almost none of the original cast came back for the sequel along with oddball things like the orbs that people travel through the world in, the movie is perfect for the podcast, though I think there would be a lot of time spent on trying to explain the backstory in the episode. -
Bad Movie Recommendations Tournament of Gold

The thing is, the guys talked about doing an episode on the movie during their "Season of the Witch" episode with Chris Hardwick, so I could see them doing an episode. Plus, that movie has WTF moments like Bradley Cooper drinking blood for to get the drugs in it and then Cooper able to see into the future at the end of the movie. -
All I remember was that when people are abducted they get yanked into the air like they were attached to a fully stretched out bungee cord. And if a person was yanked while in a building, it was completely destroyed, but no one outside of Moore and Dominick West could see it.

All I remember from it was that a kid in the movie thought it was a good idea to make a crossbow for his school project and fire an arrow in class.

I remember owning the board game for this, back in the 90s when everything had a board game. It was actually made to be like a video game where your character had a life bar and could actually die if they kept getting attacked by gorillas, mind you this came was for kids.

Having just rewatched this movie, I completely forgot that this movie is more of a black comedy than a horror, added more so by the insane soundtrack. As the priest is running away from the main killer there is a upbeat banjo soundtrack to the chase scene. And that the movie opens with a quote from Nietzsche followed by an anonymous quote of "eat me."

Yeah, that's what she was doing, though in the book it made more sense because his wife was giving him a handjob instead. This movie had a very made-for-tv feel to it but was a theatrical release. It's unfortunate that so many of King's books have had bad or so-so adaptations, though I am holding out hope for the new version of Carrie.

Roddy Piper's unheard acceptance speech - the reason the politically correct movement was created.
-
Yeah he was Gibson's stylist which gave him enough cred to make a movie, but not enough to get a bigger lead actor than Cole Hauser. I mean Mel Gibson was IN the movie but didn't want the lead, even Chris Rock had a cameo as a pizza boy.
-
That and I don't think the Academy wanted to give Piper the chance to give a heel speech about how good it was to beat a "retard."
-
That's why I think Piper will get the lead actor nod since he was passed over for Hell Comes to Frogtown and They Live, the academy was foolish to overlook those roles. I heard Brando wanted to give his Oscar to Piper because he felt he deserved it more, but Piper declined saying he wanted to win his own. He then hit Brando in the head with a coconut.
-
Well that's easy, of course PW vs. Z with Hacksaw Jim Duggan getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
-
I was just amazed that they showed Matt Hardy dying in the trailer. I also expected more from Piper since he had one of the most realistic fights in movie history in They Live, though with having at least one of his hips replaced and years of damage to his body, I can understand why he opts to bite the zombies instead.

What the shit? How is I'm not able to embed the video even when using the embed code?

The bigger insult was that he was basically forced into the role by his kids who begged him to take the role, even though he was well into his battle with cancer at that point. But for all of that, he is the best part of the movie and gives a genuinely great performance, because he realizes what movie he's in.

Wait why are all of us terrible? Most of us are defending the film.
-
I still laugh at the giant beartrap scene at the end.
-
Yeah it was Billy Baldwin I think and Donal Sutherland lets the alien/robot/thing take over his body in exchange for wearing a nice captain's hat.

So if the Spice Girls set up the template for girl bands you have, from left to right, the pornstar/whore, the jailbait fantasy, the classy/skeletor look alike, the lesbian, and the angry one.
-
So you think there will be a sequel done in near-realtime like Before Sunrise/Sunset called Spice Women?

http://forum.earwolf.com/topic/10432-enough-this-movie-is-bonkers-you-guys-need-to-check-it-out/page__hl__%2Bjennifer+%2Blopez__fromsearch__1 Here is the other thread. I think the movie couldn't be found in the thread since it is a pretty common word, so I had to search for Jennifer Lopez. I still stick by that J-Lo should have gone to jail for A) Premeditated murder and Obstructing a police investigation with her bullcrap self defense story. The police should have realized that they were dealing with what has been called in movies "an orgy of evidence" when there is so much evidence at a scene that it's too good to be true. Plus, they should have known something was up when they saw J-Lo in exercise/ninja attire, an odd choice when meeting your ex to talk.
