The entire representation of the gay community in Cruising wishes they could offend as much as Elizabeth Ashley's performance here. It's like she somehow copied "Mommie Dearest" years before hand. The weird thing that I will say about this is that I believe that it could have worked as a "Fatal Atrraction"-style thriller (Seriously, they had a Bunny Boiling before they did), it just has no idea what it's doing. It just wanders aimlessly.

Okay, I was holding off on this because it seemed to be only available for $40 on DVD or a cheap VHS, but now I just learned some great soul posted this on Youtube, so now is the time... Via Wiki The first film to be released in the 1980's, I wasn't at all sure what to make of it. Talia Shire is compete and utter garbage and is forced to have a stutter throughout the entire thing, (How will the audience know? Let's pan across a bookshelf showing books on how to control stuttering!), the first 5 minutes of this film is just this woman walking home! Elizabeth Ashley is insane, and I refuse to believe that anyone trusted her during this movie, and the villanous plot that sets this off is horrifying. Do this NOW! Before it's taken away!

It's been over a month since I saw this movie, and I still know that Dolly and Queen's character names were G.G. Sparrow and Vi Rose Hill, respectively. This movie was amazing.

I'm just gonna stop right there. There's no point. There is no legitimate point for me to defend this anymore. I loved it, it was well done for me, and as you said, it won't be on the show, so I'm pretty much gonna stop now and go look for a movie that actually needs to be discussed and wait in line for the sequel.

Ever since FYI went live, we've had Oscar-Nominees and flavors of the week nominated left and right by people who say nothing beyond "You guys need to talk about this immediately!" I'm really tempted to respond, but newbie, I'm going to guess that if the OP didn't start this, you would've. This may seem very restrictive and mean-spirited, but can we just make it an unspoken rule that newbies can only start topics on nontheatrical releases. Just because we all know that World War Z, Elysium, or The Wolverine will be on the boards in a weeks time by "1 Posts"

I think that the real question is How Did THIS Get Made? Because Batman and Robin, Wild Wild West, and even Catwoman can be considered attempts at money machines. The question is, why THIS? Why this bad? And expectations nonwithstanding, they weren't just going to slap anything together and call it Superman (Unlike Quest for Peace or Supergirl, both way more deserving candidates)

Alright, I was about to say no harm done and talk about how the person I saw 'Man of Steel' called it stupid (an even bigger offense to me), but you're forcing me to play my hand. The 'hope' that you keep saying isn't there is present in my view, but I believe it's in a different form. What you were expecting was a Superman movie where the objective was to stop the bad guy and save lives, and I get that from that standpoint, this movie was a downer. But I wasn't viewing it as a typical Superman movie, I saw it as an Origin Story. For me, the focus was on what the reaction was going to be to Superman's existence. And when General Zod threatens Earth unless Superman comes forth, I'm pretty sure the focus WAS saving the planet, as vague as that may seem. But to me, the real triumph was the fact that the military learned to accept Superman as a hero rather than a menace or an alien. He was able to bridge the gap that Jor-El was talking about between humans and Kryptonians. Society now wants Superman in there lives, setting up sequels where people WILL say "Hooray for Superman!" THAT is the hope I got from the movie.

I will agree that some critiques have merit (I was furious at EVERY SINGLE MOVE Pa Kent made, and I did notice the excessive property damage), but it didn't bring down the entire show for me. It's an origin story, so I didn't expect him to try and save everyone. He's just figuring out his powers. I will admit, I laughed when I saw Jon Peters name on screen And there are two things I did love about this. First, they were treating Superman as a alien, which gave the movie an interesting sci-fi element, and second, it wasn't trying to be like Nolan's Batman. There was definitely a lot more good nature and humor in this, which made me glad that a studio didn't just say, "Make Superman, but Grittier"

no, nah, nope, nuh-huh, nO NO NO NO NO NOPE. I just came back from it, no way it deserves the treatment. This movie is going to be like The Amazing Spider-Man for me, I just will not get why some people don't like it. Yeah, there may be "Stupid" Moments (Jor-El showing Kal the suit, the Tornado), but as a summer superhero movie AND a reboot of a failed franchise, it kicks ass and I am definitely hoping for sequels. Henry Cahill amazing, Amy Adams SURPRISINGLY Great, Beautifully shot, I will defend this movie forever And I was completely expecting a "Gritty" Superman that would suck but it totally did not.

The rape scene only sells me because this man, who is not only not in the original book, but also has no point in the movie beyond sexually assaulting Hester, tells her "Where did he Lick You? God, I've wanted to Poke You!" That rape scene just gave me flashbacks to Showgirls. The slave girl, Mitubu, is also not in the original book, and yet she is given a central role in the movie. I'm REALLY tempted to post the scene where Demi Moore bathes (Tits on full display) while "Almost" masturbating to thoughts of Gary Oldman, and Mitubu is WATCHING HER THROUGH A PEEP HOLE, but you all have to see it And Shariq, I have another important question. Are we to believe that the Black Girl stuck the candle into her vagina? WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

(Ending Spoilers for those who haven't seen it) But the two scientist guys who placed the code in the magazine were against killing the kid. Alec Baldwin wanted the kid dead. Also, they wouldn't replace the code because, as Alec Baldwin continuously says, this code was worth $2 Billion and blame for the code being cracked would go on Alec Baldwin? Did I mention Alec Baldwin is in this? And that when he falls to his death at the end, complete with Suit and Tie, I laughed for about a minute

I also wanted to just ask, does anyone else feel that Jaden Smith has aged quite a bit? I didn't see this or The Karate Kid, but based on the photos of him from both movies, it looked like he went from 13 to 22 in 3 years. Seeing the trailer and poster for this, both Jaden and Will looked very old and it was just unsettling for me.

I knew PFT was on a previous show, I just couldn't find it. Also, I will forever love this episode just because June says "Oh No" when she realized she was going to be the joke.

I loved Roger Ebert's final word on this movie, which was pointing out, and I quote:

It would be amazing if Salma Hayek's singer character somehow became Mariah Carey by 1983. And even though they both use it in the background, I now forever have "Heart of Glass" stuck in my head
