Musical Monday Week 36 Om Shanti Om
Cam Bert replied to FisterRoboto's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Did anybody else find he was really accepting of his reincarnation? Like "Wait, I'm the reincarnated spirit of this guy Om? Well, time to spend all my time with my old mother and best friend, see you Mom and Dad that have raised me for the last 30 years." -
Musical Monday Week 36 Om Shanti Om
Cam Bert replied to FisterRoboto's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I was thinking about this. The more I thought about it it wasn't really a love story by the end. Om loved Shanti but new Om loved old Shanti but in a different way. When Sandy showed up I thought naturally that she was reincarnated Shanti and they would fall back in love, however she wasn't and he doesn't really seem to be in love with her. He is just trying to get revenge/justice for his old love Shanti. In that sense the happy end for them for them was the taking down of Mike. Her spirit can go on to be reincarnated elsewhere and he gets to live his dream of being a Bollywood hero. -
Musical Monday Week 36 Om Shanti Om

First off I really enjoyed the movie I thought it was lot of fun. I loved the the fact that even 70s Indian fashion was very 70s. I've also had some of the songs stuck in my head for the past few days. I don't know the names of the songs, but the final number with explaining the murder and cover up is especially stuck in my head. My biggest take away from the film is their very PG-13 friendly way of cursing in English. That is to just say the word fish a lot. I was quite charmed by this, and started doing it at my school now hoping it'll catch on. -
Musical Monday Week 36 Om Shanti Om

The one reference I really want explained if anybody can help is what was the deal with the Bollywood star covering his face with his hand? I got the joke enough that they pretended to be him to get in and that was easy because he's always covering his face so nobody knows what he really looks like. However, I get the feeling this was in reference to a real actor, and I want to know the story behind it. Did he literally cover his face all the time? Is that a joke to role he played? -
Musical Mondays Week 36 Preview (Fister Roboto’s 3rd Pick)

It depends on what you enjoy in a "bad" movie. The first half of the movie is about these two people falling in love and the dialogue is laughable but it just moves so slow. In addition you have bad acting and lots of bad technical things like audio issues, recycled footage, non-matching cuts, etc. It's basically bad community theater for the first half. If that stuff makes you chuckle go ahead and watch it straight if you like. For me personally, I found it a little too slow to enjoy fully the first time through especially when you know what's coming. -

The JCSS ranking of handsomeness would go Ted Neeley > Brandon Victor Dixon > John Legend, which oddly is the same order for amount of facial hair. Coincidence? -

Mom: Yesterday I watched that Jesus Christ Superstar you told me about. I am watching it again right now with (my nephew) waiting for (my sister) to get back. Me: I'm going to take it from the fact there is a second viewing you enjoyed it. Mom: Yes Mom: I did. I guess I quite enjoyed it. Mom: I think it was the best of all these "live" musicals they seem to be doing. Me: The real question is how does John Legend compare to Ted Neeley? Mom: He was good. Mom: Or his singing was good I should say. Me: So Ted Neeley was better? Mom: Most likely. Mom: John Legend has a baby face. Me: What about the rest of it? Mom: I don't know why they picked the guy to play Herod. Must be a good reason. (I later found out this was Alice Cooper, which just seems off to me) Mom: The original they were hippies but in this one I guess they were punks. Me: You miss the hippy nature? Mom: Actually I really liked the guy that played Judas. He was nice looking but his voice wasn't as good as the original guy. The two bad priest were pretty good. I enjoyed it. Me: I'm glad it didn't disappoint you too much. Then about three hours later, I think she remembered when I use to ask her these question more regularly and messaged me. "Looks wise Ted Neeley was way better. John Legend has a very nice voice though." -
Musical Mondays Week 36 Preview (Fister Roboto’s 3rd Pick)

So this morning on my way to work I got a text from my mother. She did not watch La La Land but rather my sister streamed Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert for her from NBC's site or Hulu or something. A full review will come this afternoon. -
HDTGM Classics Vol 8 4/13 9PM EST Movie MAC & Me
Cam Bert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
As a big fan of Paul Rudd, I say we jump straight to Mac and Me! Also Sucker Pucker without exaggeration is one of the worst things I've ever watched and I watch lots of horrible 80s and 70s horror films made for $50 bucks and a sandwich. -
It is very upsetting.

Right back at you! You are missed! Even a little CakeBug is better than none. My mother is not one for pop culture humor. She is also not one for my sense of humor. -

The text exchange between my mom and I: Me: Mom, did you watch Jesus Christ Superstar the other day? Mom: No why would I? Me: They did a live version of it on TV. Mom: Oh I think I heard about that. Was at your sisters for dinner with uncle Jack. Me: But you love Jesus Christ Me: Superstar Mom: I love the movie and I had the album. Me: Was this a protest because it was't staring Ted Neeley? Mom: No. Mom: Who was Jesus? Me: John Legend Mom: Don' know him. Mom: Who else was in it? Me: Couldn't stream it so no idea. You know John Legend. He sings "All of Me" He was the musician in La La Land. Mom: That is a very beautiful song. Mom: Still haven't seen La La Land. It keeps popping up on some of the pay channels and I thought to record it. Me: But it won the academy award for best picture. Me: I'm sorry mom, but Moonlight, Moonlight is the real winner. Mom: Oh ugh I remember those jokes. Maybe I'll watch it this week. The answer will come after she watches La La Land. -

Can we just talk about the name of the movie because this movie seems to have more names than it does characters. First the original short story that this movie is based upon is The Grandmothers. This movie is an adaptation of that story and the framing devices of starting and ending in a restaurant with the women having lunch with their sons, the wives and their grandchildren is missing so it makes sense to change the name. So when it was made in Australia it was released as Adoration which is a more movie friendly title suiting the adaptation. Then is some bizarre Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone level chicanery the title was modified for America to Adore. This held true for the UK as well but then upon international release it was changed twice more. In some places it was Two Mothers which fits more in line with the short story but suits the adaptation more. Then in other places in was Perfect Mothers which carries with it a whole other set of issues and can be interpreted many ways. Yet this movie had more name changes in its localization. For me here in Japan it was called 美しい絵の崩壊 (Utsukushii E no Houkai) or Breakdown of a Beautiful Pictuce which has nothing to with adoration or mothers at all! Now the question is why so many names? Were they trying to throw people off the trail of a not so well received movie? Was just simplifying it for difference audiences? Did every production company involved just get to name it whatever they felt best?

I don't know about the salads but I'm pretty sure they are always drinking or drunk.

With this and the recent massive success of Hamilton, what historical figure would you want to see a musical about? -
Orcas are always just one step away from being mass murders. Just asked Richard Harris!

Are we talking Batman? I've always had a question, When and why would you need whale repellent?

At this point it is wide open. That does remind me, I just saw that Monster Trucks is on Amazon Prime here now! Maybe this weekend...

But I want to know if he's a baby that's a boss or a boss of all the babies. I need to know!
-
Unrelated question time! So just release here in Japan are the movies Boss Baby and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. I know Valerian was covered in the Pee-Cast Blast episode and Boss Baby is all kinds of weird. However, I know a lot of you have seen these movies as well. Are they worth spending the time and money to see in theaters or if I've waited this long should I just keep waiting until home video?

Is that the movie in which Danny Devito teaches Marky Mark and a bunch of soldiers the joy of rapping Shakespeare in order to win the love of his daughter by buying her a telescope? If so, yes I enjoyed that movie. -

Wow, so many thoughts on seeing that. First, Bob Gunton? I didn't know he did Broadway. Second, so his name isn't just Che he is Che Guevara? Third, she really is basically screaming a lot of that.
