Musical Mondays Week 28 Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit
Cam Bert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I always enjoyed "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson" because it was more of a story than a song. -
So they complained that Bobby McGee is a terrible name choice but the full name of John Larroquette's character is Wilbur Wills which I would argue is just as bad if not worse.

I think I may have written about this once before but I will again because I have no shame. The video store we went to when I was a kid had a separate room by the front that had the kids movies and video games. The entire room was walled with class so parents could send their kids off into it and still be able to keep and eye on them. It was a good idea. What wasn't a good idea was the fact the the biggest section of the glass wall looked out straight at the horror movie shelf. So you are looking at the cover to Land Before Time and you turn around and staring in at you is a shelf of nightmare fuel. As a result I remember The Blob remake cover scaring me and looking for the Cat's Eye cover as the "safe zone"

Musical Mondays Week 28 Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit

Not only that but it seems his early retirement is entirely hinged on the school closing. At the end the school is saved so they think he wants to continue working and save more schools when he's been actively asking for early retirement and to close the school down? I think the advisory board just hates him. -

Maybe this is an American thing that I was lost on but at the end when talking about changes to the school Mr. Noodle says that they might even let him teach "the new math." Are there forbidden maths in America? -

Musical Mondays Week 28 Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit

Fun HDTGM and Musical Monday connections in this film. First, one of the class room students was played by Alanna Ubach who we might remember from another high school movie released the same year, Airborne. Second, the Latin teacher was played by Brad Sullivan who was one of the two fathers in The Fantasticks. -
This is definitely one of those covers that is burnt into my mind from the video store as a kid.

This is a hard question. Some late year contenders in my mind for this. There are certainly lots of movies I talked about a lot or wanted to talk about a lot but I'll choose the movie that has stuck with me the most. Memories of Matsuko for whatever reason really hit a cord it me. Living alone in Japan, there are more than a few themes in the film I can relate to but also to some of the bigger themes as well. I don't know if I can recommend it or not as I'm not sure how well it will play for those that don't live here, but I think this movie hit me emotionally deeper than anything else this year.

Who in the story may or may not be underage....

This time of year is always really hard for me because a lot of the awards movies don't normally come out here until February/March-ish. So there are movies that I really want to see like Three Billboards, Lady Bird, Big Sick, etc that I just don't get to see within the calendar year. That said bottom is pretty easy to do. 1. The Babysitter 2. Baywatch 3. Death Note 4. The Mummy 5. C.H.I.P.s Dishonorable mentions go to Alien: Covenant which is a terrible movie but technically well done so I don't know if I can put it the top 5, and King Arthur which I just saw and need more time to absorb.

I asked some of the kids this morning what books they like some of the choices were Animalia, The Bear in Underwear series, various Nick Sharratt books, Stuck, Hats for Sale, and Stone Soup.

Still don't know why they haven't jumped on the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler train. -
Musical Mondays Week 27 Baby Driver

I don't think it was the worst, I think that goes to Seth McFarland who spent the majority of his time telling jokes about how bad of a host he is because he has to be the center of all his humor. Then when that ended he did a weird song about "I saw your boobs" No thanks. I like the hosts that don't try to do big elaborate bits like Neil Patrick Harris's failed magic trick or the tour group with Kimmel. There doesn't need to be a bit that you build to or get back to. The host should do a song or something big up front, and then pop up now and again to move the show along and that's it. -

Sorry I've been busy and unable to get to the thread until now but I don't think there is much left to be said that hasn't been said already. Here's my problem with the Jamie Foxx character, he's playing a trope that I hate in movies. I'm sure one of you will know the term for it but it's just that role of "bad guy that is crazy/untrustworthy/unstable that nobody likes or trusts or wants around but one character who protects them and in the end as expected ruins everything." You know that character that makes you wonder why the group is keeping them around because it's clear they will ruin everything out of selfish or nonthinking reasons. It's just the moment that type of character shows up you know where it is going and story is not as interesting as it could be. The story doesn't feel like it builds or grows because we know that character will just ruin everything and it is a waiting game until that happens. It was a little annoying to me in this case because you already had a similar but more subdued character earlier in the movie with Jon Bernthal. He knows what Baby can do but doesn't trust him because he's off. That character could have come back and slow burned and ended up at like a ten on the angry/distrusting scale like Jamie Foxx was. Instead Jamie Foxx come in at a nine and half and after two sentences is at ten and you know instantly that he's going to bring everyone down. In the end his character was kinda one note and that in combination with the Lily James character love story kinda bogged down the middle of the movie for me. Otherwise I really enjoyed it and the soundtrack. I wish I could add more but this was just in theaters not so long ago so have to go by what I remember. But what I do remember is Anne Hathaway, and I do have comments on that. I honestly don't get why everybody jumped on the hate train for her either. The thing that boggles my mind even more about it is that her personal life isn't a mess. She isn't cheating on her husband or sleeping with married directors or making drama. She doesn't make a bunch of half assed foot in mouth kind of statements either. When I have seen her interviewed she always seems very friendly and open. Heck, I remember her once on a interview show here and she was extremely polite and kind and went along with things which cannot be said of a lot of foreign celebs who have to promote things here. The other thing is she is actually a talented actress as well. Yes the Oscars she hosted were terrible but then again what year isn't really? -
I don't have kids but I work with them. The Jon Klassen hat triology "I Want My Hat Back", "This Is Not My Hat", and "We Found a Hat" are all highly entertaining and almost as enjoyable for adults as kids. It may sound strange, but the first time I read "We Found a Hat" it made me tear up a little. The first two are funny, the last one is heart and message.

One of my favourites of last year was about foreclosing on the bank in a different way..

There were some great episodes this year. As for thing I'd like to see in 2018: - I 100% understand why they've shifted to live shows but I would like the return if only a few times for some studio episodes. Live shows are good, but they have a schedule to keep and an audience to talk to. Sometimes I feel like they had more great stuff to say but for the format of the live show they had to move on. Like if there was a truly insane movie just a full uninterrupted 90 minute break down of it would be nice. -Granted they aren't as good as the first, but I would like to see them talk about the Sleepaway Camp sequels. Or in general do some more series. They have Scott with the Fast movie, they had Scott with the Sharknado films, they had Doug Benson with the Twilight films. I like running the series on bad movie and having that same guest there. That said I like some of what you guys have said already, and I know that whatever they will do it will be great ultimately.

This is hard because almost all of them are good songs. For me though I'd say Movin' Right Along because it is fun and catchy. Plus it rhymes Saskatchewan! -

I am always uncomfortable when Fozzie takes his hat off. The pointedness of his head is just so off putting. -

I think you hit the nail on the head about how people seemingly remember her or her actions sometimes but not others. Like Bill who watches over her fallen body. She gets up, calls him by his name, and gives him a gift. Now imagine you are Bill, a kindly older gentleman. You see a stranger fall down in a mall and nobody is helping her so you go over to help. You ask if she's okay and she calls you by your name and gives you a gift. You think to yourself "boy that's strange" and go on with your day as planned. You go to the botanical gardens, hopefully those pesky rollerbladers aren't around, and look at your favourite plants. Then the girl from before shows up and sets you up with her neighbour. Then she invites you over to her parent's house for a party. Why are you not more weirded out by this series of events? It's not normal.
