Musical Mondays Week 12 An American Tail (and Squeakquels)
Cam Bert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I remember Tiger being a bigger part of the story than he was. This is probably because I was thinking of the squeakquel which he is in from the get go. -

I can't wait for you to get caught up on American Gods. Do you get Showtime to watch Twin Peaks? -

Speaking of weird proportions the great cat of Minsk was suppose to be "as tall as a tree with a tail a mile long." Given that mice are quadrupedal and not bipedal, is he as tall as a tree when up on two legs like these mice are? Even if so, that's incredibly short to have a mile long tail. How do you even get around with a thing like that? I think that's a defining trademark of all Don Bluth films. What 80s kid didn't learn about the harsh realities of death from All Dogs go to Heaven or The Land Before Time -

Here's one of those things you never think of as a kid but as an adult you're like "I don't know if my suspension of disbelief is still that high." Could a cat pass itself off as a rat? I mean bonus points for making him a rat and not a mouse because rats are much larger. That said this rat must be on the gigantic side to come close to being the size of a passable alley cat, but he's not even that big. He's maybe three times the size of Fievel but half the size of Mo the child slave labourer rat. -

Episode 162 - My Stepmother Is An Alien: LIVE!
Cam Bert replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Ooo... this is a tough question. I mean do you go with a bad movie to have them rip it apart? Do you pick something that will try to appeal to one of the hosts? So many factors to consider. Personally I would love Jon Gabrus to come back and do some more JCVD movies with them. However, in thinking of bad movies that would spark some fun host banter I have to go with: For those unfamiliar it's the classic story of a teenage boy (Paul Walker) who is murdered by his girlfriend's (Denise Richards) ex boyfriend and has his brain put inside a T-Rex created by a mad scientist (play by Weekend at Bernie's Terry Kiser) -

If we were doing the sequel it would have been the Jimmy Stewart sheriff. He may not be Ted Neeley Handsome but my mom loves Jimmy Stewart more than some family members. -

That is so many people's favourite part. Mine would be the weird runner about how much they love Stu. That and them doing the Lost Boys trick on people. For me I think I heard about the movie first when they were on Doug Loves Movies. Outside of that didn't really know anything about it or see any trailers and it surprised me and made me laugh. I think that's another problem with comedies, like Taylor Anne was saying that the trailers are terrible. They often give away the biggest jokes in the movie, or make it look like it's one type of comedy when it's not. -

I couldn't agree more with this. I was just thinking what was the last comedy movie to have me laughing out loud regularly and the first one came to mind was What We Do in the Shadows and then I realized that came out in 2014. That's not to say there aren't movies that make me laugh. I laughed a lot during The Nice Guys, but that's not really a straight up comedy. Swiss Army Man and Hunt for the Wilder People got me to smile, but again both are more dramas. I often wonder like you if I'm just getting old and cranky because every straight up comedy I watched last year was either terrible or just meh. Popstar I haven't gotten to yet but now I do. -

First, I checked a Wikipedia article on box office bombs to refresh me on my options and Cowboys and Aliens is on that list. Also I two have seen John Carter twice and enjoyed it. Again like John Carter there are some movies that aren't masterpieces but they are enjoyable. Granted I haven't seen my choice in 15 years but I remember really digging: -

Seeing as Tuxedo Mask has been brought up and this is a musical thread, are you aware that there has been numerous Sailor Moon musicals here in Japan? -

Inspired by CakeBug's post from awhile back it's time for... How Did This Get Named? So in Japan this movie is called 花嫁はエイリアン (Hanayome wa Eirian) or My Bride is an Alien. Again much like the French poster they decided to drop the step daughter element from it and focus on the Kim Basinger and Dan Aykroyd relationship. The also chose to use the English word for "alien" rather than the Japanese I assume to capitalize on the success of the Alien movies. However, Willow is all but missing from the movie posters. Here is the theatrical poster: Then upon home video release they went with this fairly standard international version. Notice again how Willow is pushed into the background: However my favourite is the press sheet that came out. In Japan in the lobbies of movie theaters there will be a section with a bunch of these press sheets. It's a double sided A4 sized sheet that has the movie poster on one side and usually a movie summary and date of release on the other. So for example you're curious what this new Spider-Man movie is all about you go to the lobby, find the one with Spider-Man on the front and on the back it explains that it's the start of a new film series and the Avengers are involved he's a teen in school and so on and so on. So this was the image they decided to go with for that: -

As far as pies go my favourite is boring but I love apple pie. Put brown sugar and cinnamon on anything and I'd eat it and love it. ANYTHING!!! This is funny because just the other day I was talking with the teachers at work about how in parts of the states they put cheese on apple pie and they all found that weird and disgusting. -

Also why was the definition of sex relating to the act of making love deleted? She establishes at the end of the movie that once upon a time they did do it, so it should be in there or at least read as "4. An inefficient and messy way of reproduction stopped 3,000 years ago" -

They don't even say 5,500 years they say 55 centuries which is far worse writing. The other thing is she says they got rid of sex because it was inefficient and messy. She just learned what sex was the day before and yet nowhere in her military educational films or adult videos did it cover that sex was how people reproduce. It was just a fun activity like kissing. Yet the following day she is now aware that sex was what her people use to do to reproduce but it was done away with. Was it a case of once was said and done she was able to fit this new English word into her vocabulary? Like X in her language is what Earthlings call sex so now she is aware of what this concept was? This still doesn't cover the fact when did she learn that sex means having offspring. I take it back, must have been from the works of Shakespeare.
