But of course.

But let's not forget how at the same time Japan was making the X-Men even cooler!

Yes. Everybody can answer wrong and say Leonardo or Raphael but the correct answer is of course Donatello!
-
YES!!! Admittedly I have no seen this is years but I loved it so much as a kid. It was scary and unsettling but in the best way. Whatever happened to kids movies like this and The NeverEnding Story that were fantastical with real dark edges to them? This begs the question, who is your favourite turtle?

While I cannot attend I support and encourage this idea 100%!

(sorry but it had to be done)

Katakana-izing names is the most frustrating thing so don't worry too much about it. カメロン and キャメロン both work and I don't think one is more right given different pronunciations and accents of people. I use キャ when writing in on most things, but oddly enough because I have a registered hanko on all official documents and paper work my name is 亀論(カメロン)

Hmmm... I think I'm with JammerLea on this one and do something thematic to the episode at hand. Then much like Blake Plissken I would make an obscure reference and confuse everyone and suffer the wrath of Jason. However, if I had to pick one thing HDTGM related to dress up as I would pick Ernest.

Wow! As I was reading through I was quoting all those that mentioned my name, and then I got to this page and it exploded! Where to start with this? When I first joined the forums I actually used the name "Cambert." Then my first C&O was read for Sharknado 2 and I heard Paul on the mini-sode pronounce it "Camembert" like the cheese. So I immediately went to my profile and changed it to add the space for ease of pronunciation if I were to ever be featured again. The letterboxd people can see, "Cam Bert" comes the the shorting of my first and last name, and are also the two names I grew up being called. Then in this year's Howdies my Sharknado C&O was featured and I think this might have thrown Paul off again on my name. I think as a fan of Paul and the show, I am happier with him not being able to say it than being able to say it. Also I'm a man. This is odd to me because I've never met a female Cameron. I know there are some out there but I've met a dozen other Camerons in my life, all male. Then I come to Japan where the only Cameron they know is Cameron Diaz so everyone when they meet me asks "Isn't that a girl's name?" TL;DR Pronounced Cam-"burt" (kæm bɜrt, キャムバート) and male.

Yes. I got to like page of 46 of 2016 and I hadn't heard of anything in pages. The older the year the fewer entries, so I decided to start in the 80s but even then there I was giving up around page 15. -

Okay, I have drank the Kool-Aid as well and just signed up for this letter box thing. Figured I'd use the same username as here if anybody wants to look me up. So, I think I understand this. I just add every movie I can remember having seen, right? This could take some time... -

There are two things I find odd about the whole thing too. First, the woman who infects him scratches the back of his hand. This would leave one to assume the first place to be infected would be the back of his hand. Rather it seemingly starts in his finger. How does that work? I'm no expert in how the blood flows through the body but is there a single vein that goes from the back of your hand to your index finger? Also, if this toxin is introduced to his body by entering his blood stream via the scratch why does it start at a finger and spread out? Your blood flows through your body. It's not like the blood in your hand is confined there. Should we also assume his other extremities are infected as well? Then again, what if touching that device is what activates the virus and that's why it all starts in his finger and spreads out from there. -

Oddly as much as I love classic rock, The Who were one of the bands I just didn't get. They had the odd song I liked but that was about it. I think it's also because my father didn't care for them, so it was easier for me to get into bands he enjoyed. I'll never forget the day I told him that CCR was pretty good and that became like cart blanche for him to play it in the car all the time. That said, I look forward to Tommy because I've never seen it either.- 67 replies

Episode 153 - Escape from L.A.: LIVE!

So sadly this movie is just called "Escape from LA" in Japan, so there is not much to say there. Then I went to see if it had any strange posters or anything. Nope. All hope to find something funny or interesting for you guys seemed lost when all of a sudden I stumbled upon a strange Youtube video. As some of you may know Japan and China use a different zodiac. Unlike the western zodiac which has twelve symbols for each month theirs has twelve animals and goes by year. The first year is the mouse and last is the boar, and the cycle begins again. This year for example, 2017, is the year of the rooster. So what year does Escape from LA take place in? 2013. And what was the animal for that year? Why the snake. Coincidence? You decide. Here's the video. It's basically every time somebody says his name in the movie from the Japanese dub made into a new years greeting. Worth watching maybe just for the odd choice of Hershe's voice. Can't tell if it's an improvement or not... -

Anyone else notice that while they were tied up at the Surgeon General's place the nurses were carrying around trays of eyes? Now there is two things odd about this. First, they are not just eyes but eye and surrounding area of the face. The eye isn't attached to the face so why did they cut it all off? Surely it would be simpler to just remove the eye and then put just the new eye into a person rather than try to attach an eye and a forth of a face. Also unless they are going to immediately attach them why just have them sitting on a tray and not iced or anything? No wonder they all look like freaks they know nothing about basic medicine or anatomy. -

I can see that. They seem like they'd be cuddlers. I guess this begs the question, and I dread the answers, but if you want to be intimate with an extinct or mythical creature what would it be? I would pick giant sloth. -

This is something I have known about for a long time but I never really got it. It's not really in the furry camp as it is dinosaur on human, I just can't place who it's really for. It always reminds me of the PFT bit about the sexy bee Halloween costume. I love this. Watching the movie this time, I couldn't but think how Bruce Campbell here looks very much like Handsome Jack from the Borderlands games what with the stapled on face and all.. -

I agree completely! Does this mean we can discuss the works of Chuck Tingle or save it for the mini-sode? Somewhat NSFW... -

I believe we've talked about this before long ago, but I am a massive Carpenter fan as well. Now, I won't ask you to pick your favourites of all his work, but of his five collaborations with Kurt Russell how would you rank them? For me I would The Thing at the top no hesitation, but second is a toss up for me between Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China. I think Big Trouble might just edge it out though. Then Elvis and Escape from LA last. -

WARNING!!! VERY LONG AND FULL OF FACTS AND FIGURES!!! Boy oh boy, where to even begin on this one. So Snake is infected with the Plutoxin-7 virus and given a a clock counting down from 9 hour 31 minutes and 14 seconds until he succumbs to the virus and dies. From this point in the movie we can see how long it takes for events to unfold and how long it takes to travel from A to B. So let us take a look at... Snakes incredible journey Luckily enough we are regularly given times and specific location markers during Snake's journey through LA. However not everything is directly mentioned or seen so some of these locations are rough approximates. The journey begins at 07 Firebase. Based on its location on the map shown and given that parts of the surrounding area were sunken and not ripped away from the mainland, this would place it approximately around the location of Stetson Ranch Park. When the submersible is launched Snake has 08:08:27 remaining. When he arrives in LA he states that he's at Cahuenga Pass with 07:45:32 remaining on his countdown. It took him 22 minutes and 55 seconds to travel approximately 27km which means the sub was traveling at about 70kmph. This is well above the the current fastest personal submersible which travel at only 20kmph. From Cahuenga Pass he travels west and we see him at the intersection of Mulholland Dr and Woodrow Wilson Dr. From here he doubles back and heads to the Capitol Records building before doubling back again to Grauman's Chinese Theater. From there he's told to go to Sunset Blvd yet for some reason instead of heading south a block he decides to once again double back east because when he gets to Sunset Blvd we see a street sign saying he's in the 5600 block. At this point we get another countdown check in with 07:00:01 remaining. Snake has spent the last 45 and half minutes walking roughly 16.5km for a rough walking speed of 21 kmph. From here we have the motorcycle and car chase and when all is said and done we see him walking by Eddie's shack which is by the street sign for Sunset Blvd and North Doheny Dr. It's worth mentioning at this point Stacey Keech tells him he has seven and half hours left but yet when the car chase started he had exactly seven hours left. After this he heads east into Beverly Hills and we see him taken in by Bruce Campbell who has set up base at the The Beverly Hills Hotel. After Snake and Hot Shots escape into the sewers we see Snake check his timer yet again. The time remaining now is 5:05:20. It's hard to calculate traveling speed because we don't know how long they were out for and how far they went after the escape. After the two leave the sewers they are in Korean territory and Hot Shots tells Snake to take the Vermont exit and head south. Given that information we can assume in Koreatown town near South Vermont Ave, or about 12km away from the Beverly Hills Hotel. Shortly there after Hot Shots is killed and he checks his countdown again. It reads 4:10:23 so they traveled that approximate 12km in 54 minutes and 57 seconds for a rough walking speed of 13kmph. At this point Snake gets in a car with Eddie and is tricked and knocked out. We see him awaken in the inner workings of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with 3:22:31 remaining. Next he does some jogging, shoots hoops, escapes into the sewers, gets shot, and washes away into Wilshire Canyon. Now the only Wilshire Canyon I could find is all the way in San Bernardino which is far away and would still be attached to the mainland. Rather we are led to believe that after the earthquake Wilshire Blvd collapsed creating a canyon for Peter Fonda to surf in. And it's at this point it becomes near impossible to track Snakes journey exactly. After the surfing, Snake drives to Hershe's hideout at the Queen Mary which is washed ashore in the city somewhere not far from Wilshire and downtown. From there they hang glide with 34:39 remaining to the "Happy Kingdom" which they get to 14 minutes and 26 seconds later. This means Hershe's boat could be anywhere from 30 to 55km away from Disneyland. From Disneyland Snake gets aboard the helicopter and heads back to 07 Firebase. We see him check his countdown timer for the last time before it runs out shortly after leaving the park and he's got only 2:28 remaining. He crash lands North of Firebase and when he emerges from the crash the countdown runs out. So we can assume he was in the air for roughly 2 and half minutes and if go by our assumed location of the base, it's about 87km away. This means the helicopter had to be traveling of speeds of 2088 kmph or just under Mach 2 which is four times faster than the current fastest helicopter. So all together in the span of 8 hours and 8 and a half minutes, Snake traveled about 214.6km. That is roughly all the calculable speeds and distances traveled in this movie. Included is a picture of the first ten legs of the journey for a visual aid.- 324 replies

I don't want to step on What is it's Misson's toes too much here but I have a lot of problems with the very literal ticking clock element of this film. As keen eared listeners and forum members know when a time frame is mentioned I love to plot out how much time is actually taking place. So when I remembered this movie had a giant clock keeping track of the time I decided to do the same when writing notes for this film. Unfortunately I don't have the time this morning to write out a full blow by blow breakdown of how ridiculously long or short period of times some things take place over. Expect that sometime later today though. Until then I will leave you with this odd thing I noted. As they are hang gliding into Disneyland they cover up the name change by claiming that it kept changing owners after they went bankrupt because "that thing in Paris killed them." Now this is a not so subtle reference to the financial struggles Euro Disney or Disneyland Paris as it is now known. When Disney opened its Paris location in 1992 there was a lot of bad press because of injuries and low attendance and the whole place became a punchline. However, a few years after opening with initial bad press dying down the park actually started making money and became profitable. This happened the year before this movie was made. So by the time they were making this movie "that thing in Paris" was now profitable and sustainable.
