When someone is called a sphincter or in this case a sphincter muscle(which is slightly redundant as a sphincter is a muscle and the is no such thing as a non-muscle sphincter) the obvious implication is that someone is trying to be witting in calling someone else an asshole. Wrong. The human body contains over 50 sphincters. It's simply a constricted muscle that opens when relaxed. Other examples of　sphincters are the urethra, esophagus, either end of your stomach, your iris and yes the colon and anus. So remember, an asshole is a sphincter muscle but not all sphincter muscles are assholes.

As stated most everything that you could talk about was talked about in the actual episode. However I just have a few thoughts about the whole Joe McKenzie subplot. It's existence in this "romantic drama" seems very out of place however I have an idea as to why it is there. What if this movie is Aaron Latham's Lady in the Water? For those that haven't seen Lady in the Water the movie's ending is how a writer (played of course by M. Night) is the true hero and his words save the day because he is right despite what evil critics have to say. Basically it's a big F U to all his critics who had turned on him after The Village and about how great and visionary he still is. What does this have to do with Perfect? Well Aaron Latham wrote the screenplay along with the director about an article he wrote in Rolling Stone. John Travolta is basically playing him, and which character in the movie is always right? That's right, Adam Lawrence. His smart article is not understood and gets rewritten, he agonizes over writing trashy articles, he knows more than the editor and other people in the industry, every other reporter is lazy or cruel but not Adam. He is the perfect reporter who is so noble he fights first amendment issues and is hoisted to fame and respect as a result of that and the accompanying article. There are lines about how reporters run the world and control things, and what important people they are. All of this written by a reporter about a character that is a surrogate of himself. The Program wasn't about a sports reporter coming across a football team, and Urban Cowboy wasn't about a reporter stumbling into the country scene. Yet both those movies were written by Aaron Latham based on articles he'd written. So why turn this story into that of the reporterwhen a straight forward story of people meeting at the gym and falling in loved would have worked? Clearly he had something going on in his life and he wanted, nay, needed to show the world how important and powerful reporters and he himself were. Finally, what does any of this have to do with the Joe McKenzie subplot? He wanted to write the perfect reporter, the ideal version of himself, and the Joe McKenzie story means the main character doesn't have to write trash anymore, gets a book deal, gets nationwide respect and fame, and is the bravest reporter ever for standing for some first amendment rights. If there is no Joe McKenzie, then the story is about a sleazy reporter who sleeps around, and eventually falls in love. He's not a great or noble character, and if you are going to put yourself in your movie like M Night did, you best make it your best self.

There is something to be said about these kind of action movies that lets you turn your brain off and just ignore the world around you and all the bullshit in your life for an hour and a half as it does it's best to entertain and rock your socks off. Which is way I now feel the need to go back and watch the rest of the Furious franchise. Zardoz I can't fully explain why. There is something about it that begs you to talk to whomever you watched it with. I have seen it maybe 6 times and every time has lead an hour of talking or sometimes a whole evening. I think it's a fun movie to talk about and therefore a bit more fun to watch. I think the show has been great this year. They seem to have a good streak of going with big well known things and some lesser known things. The slash film articles have been great as well. Good guests, but while I enjoy hearing new people to the show (Tatiana Maslany being a great example) I do wish some of the older guests like Pete Holmes would pop up again. Overall just another strong year.

I remember this very specifically. It was Sharknado, the first one. In the movie in the LA is flooding scenes there is a quick shot of a Family Mart convenience store. Now Family Mart is one of the big three of the convenience stores here in Japan and I found this odd, so I wanted to know if it was a thing in America. I posted to ask, and my comment fell on deaf ears. Then a year letter for Sharknado 2 I was so perplexed by it that I wrote my second ever comment on that one. That comment made it on to the mini-episode. It made me feel very giddy that some silly thing I thought of made it on, and since then, especially so this year, I try to post regularly. Also I would be lying if I didn't say it also made me giddy to talk with other forum people who were min-sode regulars. It was like meeting stars.

I just want to take a quick moment to express my love and confusion of Beastman. As a huge fan of the cartoon growing up I know Beastman can talk. He may not be the brightest bulb in the drawer but he talks and he can talk to beasts. In fact the whole selling point of Beastman is this. He can control the Beasts of Eternia, so when He-Man is out in the jungles he can make giant snakes and lizards attack him. He is brutishly strong but that is secondary to his command of beasts. This begs the question, why bring him to Earth? Did they simply need the muscle? Did they figure there were beasts for him to control there? Also Beastman carries a sword the entire movie. Now, as any purist will tell you he used a whip not a sword. You use a whip to tame and command beasts, a sword cannot do that. Not that any of that matters because he doesn't hold or use the sword once in the movie. He either fires a rifle very awkwardly or just beats on people. In summation, I just wanted to talk about Beastman so I could post this gif I made of him running very daintily.

It's 2005 and Chad Kroeger is sitting in his studio in Vancouver. He sees the cosmic key sitting on top of the mixing board and figures it is some crazy Japanese thing one of the engineers picked up at Metrotown. He starts plucking away at a song that's been in his head and plays Rockstar on it. A giant purple wavy timey whimey thing appears in front of him. He goes to approach it and gets sucked in. He looks around and for it appears that he's in 1950s small town America. Then he notices that there are two suns in sky. This is not Earth! A local boy approaches him, and he looks fairly human if not for his greyish skin tone and trumpet shapped ears. "You're not from around here, are you?" asks the boy. "No," Chad explains, "I'm a musician and I played a song on this crazy Asian thing and ended up here. I don't know where I am." "Our planet is called Atturnium. Are you from Earth? We get your signals you send out. We do love yours shows and your music. We've based our whole society on it. Did you say you were a musician?" As Chad nods the little boy asks him to play something, and he starts playing How You Remind Me on the cosmic key. The time hole appears again and he can see his studio back in Vancouver. "Boy that was great." says the young boy, "We love Earth music and yours is the kind of music we'd never get tired of hearing. I wish you could stay here forever and make music for us. You must be like a God back on Earth." Chad sighs as he looks through the time hole and sees on the screen of a laptop a comment board full of Nickleback hate. "Something like that..." He replies. The boy pauses and says "So will you stay here where we will love you and your music and never say a bad word about you?" As Chad looks at the screen he notices something glinting behind it. It is all his Junos and MuchMusic Awards sitting on a shelf. He looks at the young boy and says, "I'm sorry my people need me more. Besides this new song is going to be our best ever! Enjoy when it gets her kid." Chad tosses his sweat plaid shirt at the kid and hops through the time hole, back to Vancouver.

Yes! A thousand times yes! When they were pinned down by Skeletor's robo army, which let's face it was just a rip off of Hordak's Horde Troopers, they were trapped with no way out. Gwildor had to input a destination into the magic Japanese synthesizer but as he stated before it takes time. What if he were to punch in some random keys and they jump through the whirling time and space hole only to end up in the middle of their sun? That could have happened. So the first thing he does is remember the first sequence he popped in that actually worked, which happened to sequence to Earth. That first time he stumbled across it was an accident which led to the accidental death of a modest middle class couple! Gwildor quickly thought "It works, but at what cost. I must never play those tones again" however in the pressure of battle it was all he could think of! Also I believe that gif is one of the few times both his eyes were the same size

Just a small observation I want to point out because it made me laugh. Skeletor has skulls on the fingertips of his gloves. I guess this was in guess people he was Jack Palance he could just say "No, I'm Skeletor, look" and hold out his fingers.

After reading what Cameron H wrote I'm starting to wonder about the ending but for different reasons. When exactly did Courtney Cox tell Gwildor the exact date of her parents death? In fact I don't remember her ever telling any of the Eternian heroes about her parents at all. The villains knew about it, well at least Evil Lyn and Karg do because he found the article in her house. After Karg shows it to Evil Lyn she keeps it as the leaves. She ran away mid-battle too, so there was no chance to recover it. That means while Gwildor was attempting to be a drag queen did he first stumble into the ransacked room of newspaper clippings of her parents death and was there more than one article written about it or did she get the same article from as many different newspapers as possible? Did Gwildor find out about it at just kept the information to himself, because at the end he's basically given her the choice. He's like "Hey, I could send you back in time so you can be with your dead parents, that is an option, read between the lines lady!" However, she doesn't think about the until the last second yet he somehow knew. The only other solution would be her telling them after the battle. Like after her leg was healed she was like "Phew, I thought I was dead like my parents who died on July 1st 1986 around 12:54 pm" there was no way for Gwildor to know exactly when to send them.

Even though some of this is covered in the oral history and here already, I just thought I would do a little clean up on the whole He-Man cartoon and toy angle of things. This movie is not based off of the cartoon but the line of toys. The original line of toys were released in 1982 and the following year the Filmation cartoon began.The line of toys and the comics that came with them were entitled Masters of the Universe. When Filmation made the cartoon they named their cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The toys continued to be sold as Masters of the Universe however due to the popularity of the cartoon the name He-Man just came to represent it all. The figures contained comics and the ones released with the wave one figures contained stories that were different than the cannon set-up in the Filmation series. The most notable of these is that in the wave 1 comics, He-Man was very much a barbarian. There was no Prince Adam alter ego, Orko, or many of the other familiar things from the cartoon. While the Filmation animated series ran, they would introduce characters from the toy line into the show, and in rare cases like Orko they'd make toys from popular characters on the show. This movie is based off of the line of toys and not the animated series. This explains the more barbarian-like nature of He-Man (though the gun usage is highly questionable) and the use of mostly wave 1 characters such as He-Man, Skeletor, Man At Arms, Beast Man, Teela and the Sorceress who did not have a figure but was in the mini-comics. The addition of the new characters was simply an attempt to create new character to be turned into toys. Though Griwldor did served as an Orko replacement due to special effects and the large role that Orko had become in the He-Man mythos. Most notable clash of this all was the use of the iconic He-Man catchphrase "I have the power." In the animated series he had to hold his magic sword aloft and say "By the power of Greyskull! I have the power" to transform from Prince Adam to He-Man. In this movie as there was no transformation to be had they had to shoe horn it in a way that doesn't fully make sense.

Just in case we don't get an oral history this time I would like to recommend the documentary Electric Boogaloo: The Wild Untold Story of Cannon Films. Not only do they cover past and most likely future HDTGM films, but is just a really interesting story. As Cockney mentioned this is a Cannon film so they cover it in the documentary. My favourite bit was I guess Stallone showed up on set on day and pointed at Dolph Lundgren and remarked "You gave that guy lines?"

My favourite part about his character is when Duncan's son makes the winning run his whole team erupts in celebration and he could not look more unhappy about it. He even slams his clip board down. Then when the team rushes the field he walks up and crosses his arms, while the cheery ADRed line "Come on! Sodas! I'm buying!" is said. Crossed arms and clip board slamming is not the body language of a coach who is happy his team won. Maybe he knows he has to buy his team sodas if they win, a tradition I believe also stated in Bad News Bears, yet he only has 50 cents. He is super pissed because he can't afford to by sodas and has no idea how to weasel out of it.

Not to derail this thread like the minisode one, but which Green Goblin do you all think this was? Front of the truck was clearly Norman Osborn Green Goblin, while the Jack in Box was probably Dr. Bart Hamilton.

Okay, so the machines were brought to life by aliens but why do they know English? We have the ATM at the beginning of the movie calling Stephen King an asshole and the bank telling people to go fuck themselves. That's some pretty high level English. The machine gun jeep thing comes and uses morse code to tell the people of the Dixie Boy to fill them up with gasoline. Then at the end of the movie the speaker/menu of a fast food restaurant actually speaks English! It talks! There is nobody on the other end of it to say something, but because people talk through it it learned how to speak English? If this was the case why not get the ice cream truck to tell the humans to fill them up rather than chance it with morse code? Or get a blimp or something else that could display a message to write it out and tell them. All I'm saying is that these vehicles took a big chance in assuming somebody would be able to understand morse code which is a form of communication that a very small number of the population knows. Also, did they get the machine gun jeep thing to tell them because it's the only machine that knew morse code because it's a military vehicle? The trucks honk at the humans a few times, so why couldn't one of them honk out morse code?

They are dying though. Every time I go in the sections are getting smaller and smaller. Netflix has just come here, and they have had a similar mail away DVD service for a couple years now. I figure it's only a matter of time.

I think I'm safe in talking about this, because I don't think I saw it mentioned in previous comments but I want to talk about two weird things in the journey of Lisa Simpson and Haley Joel Osment. First, as they are driving along the road they pass some dead car up on blocks in a yard. Those cars begin to flash their head lights in a morse code like fashion. Foreshadowing? Then they cross some train tracks and the warning light seem to be using some sort of morse code single too. When they finally get to the gas station Haley Joel is attacked by a tow truck. Was this the machines saying "Hey humans coming, pass it on" so the tow truck would be ready to kill them? Second, at the first gas station they pull into there is a sign saying the Dixie Boy is 3 miles away. They start driving in that direction. Awhile later we see them driving down a straight of highway where all the trucks seem to be driving away from the Dixie Boy (only to turn around and come back for gas later) and get chased by a killer truck. At the end of the chase they are stopped in front of a sign now saying the Dixie Boy is 2 miles away. That must be the world's longest mile.

Wow, time zones are killing me again. Too late to jump into things or comment on everything I read. Anyway, to make up for this I've decided to bring my own little segment to the comments page. I live in Japan and as a result some of these movies when I have to track down in video stores or iTunes go by different names. Some movies like "Nightmare on Elm Street" get their title simply directly translated into Japanese, other movies retain their name but put into Japanese phonetically like "Pet Cemetery". There is no seemingly rhyme nor reason to this. However, every so often they decide to just change the title completely like the Fast and Furious movies being known as Wild Speed. When this is the case I decided to bring it you guys and maybe you'll get a chuckle out of it. So without further ado I bring you... How Did This Get Named? In Japan Maximum Overdrive is called... Hell's Devil Trucks. It could also be Hell's Devil Truck as there are no plurals in Japanese and you could easily assume they are just talking about the Green Goblin truck. Bonus Fact: The TV movie Trucks based of the short story is called Trucks. They didn't touch that one at all.
