  1. Sweet! Another childhood favourite and another excuse to talk about Don Bluth! You know what this means folks, we are one step closer to watching Rock-A-Doodle!
  2. Basically from my notes the writers were also conflicted on what exactly the thing in her purse is. At one point it is referred to as the Monshine40 and then a device that comes from Monshine40 the most advanced research facility in the northern universe. Putting aside the fact that the universe doesn't have a north, it's still unclear if the eye is the bag or it just lives in the bag and the bad is the device. I think the implication is the bag is a hyper advance AI system and the eye thing is part of it and not an alien itself. Then again, I could be wrong because none of this is fleshed out well. I may answer this in more detail later but I'd need to watch the movie again and I don't really want to do that. PS: Hank's apartment for sure!
  3. When Celeste is making a case for the Earth. In her list of good things the Earth has that their home world does not one of the things she cites is children. This raises a fascinating question about these aliens. The council shows us that these aliens do age. Celeste even states that she is 1,296 years old and that her species reproduces by synthesis, which is basically cloning. However, despite the clone containing the same genetic makeup it does come out the exact age you are now or just quickly grow to your age and stop. It ages at a regular rate. Also it doesn't know what you know. It still has to learn every from speaking to motor skills. So even those they reproduce via synthesis there mus be a child phase when they are aging and learning, right?

    Musical Mondays-Week 8-Rent

Ugh guys, I think we have some high up executives that follow our MM choices because I just saw this: http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/rent-live-musical-fox-tv-1202423844/ Stop copying us network television!
  5. Ah, but you're now glossing over one of the things that annoyed and does so in many science fiction things. We, humans I mean, named the sixth planet in our solar system Saturn. It is a meaningless word outside that context (or talking mythology) and is something that nobody else would know unless they are from Earth and speak English. Yet we have these aliens from light years away just happen to call it Saturn as well? No! They would call it something else or why would they even know or care about it if it's light years from their own planet. "Oo, can we stop at that planet on the way back?" FIFY Jerico! Also, is the building empty at this point? It's a SETI lab. Science doesn't sleep. Space and aliens don't sleep. Hey guys, it's 8 at night, I don't think any intelligent extraterrestrial life will be active for at least another 13 hours, so let's clear out.
  6. I could be wrong but I thought Jon Lovitz worked in fashion or at least the clothing industry. When Dan Aykroyd is delivering the clunky exposition about his snap shirt he says it's the "latest invention" of his brother. Given that line plus his care about his jacket, his knowing of attractive people, his wealth, and the fact that he just has women's fashion magazines laying about his place makes me think it's most likely that he works in fashion or clothing.
  7. I want us all to take a moment to appreciate how high waisted Dan Aykroyd's pants are.
  8. I'm very interested in the casting! April 1st? Maybe doable. Depends if it's an early start to the school year or not.
  9. As we now wait to see what EllenMC shall become...
  10. I was doing some digging and based on what has been said here and some of what I've found I'm more confused than ever. Basically I was thinking while I was watching this movie "For non-trained singers I guess they're giving it their best" however, I've come to find out that every member of the main cast is either trained or has recorded music professionally. As mentioned you have the incredible talent that is Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino trained in opera, Anthony Head trained in music theater, Alex Vega has a number of singles released same with Paris Hilton, Orge from Skinny Puppy, and even horror icon Bill Moseley was the lead singer for a band called the Cornbugs. So now I'm left wondering, what went wrong? Was it they weren't given enough time to practice and rehearse the songs because of the small budget? Was it that the music was just poorly written making it hard for people to sing in general? Then it got me thinking a bit about Hamilton. What these two musicals have in common is that they are breaking away from the traditional style of music that musicals are done in. As a result you can't just take someone who can sing and plop them into the role. If they're not verse in the style of singing it just throws it off. Is it then the case that these people just weren't right for the style of music in Repo!?
  11. For me, that's the roughest part of the movie to sit through by far.
  12. According to IMDB:
  13. And she was a last minute replacement! So many questions.
  14. Another JCSC connection. Sarah Brightman, who plays Blind Mag, was for ten years or so married to Sir Dame Andrew Lloyd Webber the other half of JC Superstar! Also, fun fact after appearing on stage at a young age Sarah Brightman was recruited into the disco group Hot Gossip who had a massive Star Wars inspired hit song in 1978! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgW9l7CR1WQ
  15. I too much like Fister saw this years ago but remembered very little about it. My memories going in were that the daughter had a transplant and that was what was forcing him to keep being a Repoman but I think I might be mixing the two repo movies up. This time I was able to do a single sitting, don't recall if I did the first time.
  16. I think for me that's why I didn't enjoy this as much. As it's been said in other MM threads, if you can't get into the music it's hard to get into the movie. The only song I can remember the rhythm or words to are that song. All the other songs I can remember the details of in relation to the story but even though I watched it two days I can't recall how any of them went.
  17. My frame of reference for him will always be coffee guy first
  18. Giles is so much more a Brad.
  19. One of the things that I found odd about this movie is the scope. Scope is not the exact right word but hopefully you'll see what I mean. Take something like Batman. Gotham is a large city and there is all sorts of criminals and crime that take place within it and Batman stops it all. Now if we look over to Metropolis we see it's the same situation but they have Superman. In Repo! you're set in this one city where GeneCo is located but yet they're passing bills in congress implying this is a nation wide problem and people are talking about the Repoman like some sort of Batman like boogeyman. So the question I had is what's going on in the other cities? Are there Repomen there as well? Is there more than one Repoman in GeneCo city, because there are a lot of dead bodies and why are there so many dead bodies if not people are being repo-ed all the time. Are they being trucked in from nearby cities? There is a curfew to prevent grave robbing but how long has this been going on that all the graves aren't already defiled? The problem is if this was on a stage, I think I'd think less of these issues however this movies tries to create a world and not just a few locations and more me it just raises more questions and takes me away from the characters.
  20. It's not really an original idea. Look no further than Monty Python's Meaning of Life and the idea of live organ donations. They just added a back story and put it in a different genre.
  21. Ah, boo. I'll look to see if I can find another.
  22. I was catching up TV today and I was watching an episode of one of my favourite shows Ame Talk. Every week there is a different topic and they bring on a handful of comedians or celebrities to talk about, tell stories, or do whatever the topic of the week is. So the the episode I missed the topic was "Comedians who can't dance"(literally "Comedians who don't want to dance"). At the very end of the episode they decide to make a mini-musical and guess what they decided to use as their inspiration? http://dai.ly/x5kbpir?start=2829

    Episode 161.5 - Minisode 161.5

Oops, my bad. But hopefully I sold it to somebody in the forums!

    Episode 161.5 - Minisode 161.5

It's all kinda blended together in my mind right now but allow me to sell you on why this Nova series was great. Through the events of Annihilation we finally see Richard Rider grow from regular Earth teen with powers to a mature hero. So where does the character go from there? Why he becomes Nova Prime with new found powers and the rebuilding of the Nova Corps he's now got to grow in different ways. The new Nova Corps tries to establish a Green Lateran like presence in the Marvel universe while throwing in a secret villain, some great resolution to his issues with his family, and it makes the events of the Thanos Imperative all that more tragic.
