  1. big ups Splendor. That's awesome.

Seriously, that is awesome. Thanks Splendor.

Unfortunately, since Marissa has opted to code her site in binary, who knows when it'll actually be ready. Apparently no one has told her about a certain easy drag-and-drop website platform.....

  2. While this movie is clearly wrong for the show, I tried to watch it this past weekend and couldn't even get past the 15-minute mark. Ugh. Not believable for a second, and the faux-documentary style just makes it worse.

  3. Some fixes are live! Like:

    • Recommendations page now sorts and paginates properly. It's so fast... no more timeouts. Hooray!

    • Tags — we shouldn't have as much of a problem with fraudulent tags, because there's now a value system added to tagging. Multiple users can now give a movie the same tag, and that movie will need to be given the same tag at least twice for it to show on its page. So go in and "second" some tags!

    • Also, why isn't Ed getting more votes? I wasn't exactly given an ethics pamphlet on this, so I don't know how impartial I'm supposed to be, but I'd like to put my all my dirty campaign dollars behind Ed. Mostly so that I finally have an excuse to watch it and find out whether or not Matt LeBlanc can give a better acting performance than a chimpanzee.

Thanks again to Shariq for these enhancements, and there's always more cool stuff to come.

  4. New poll up now!

The theme is #thezeropercent, or movies that have achieved a 0% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you have something nice to say about any of these, I'm afraid you're all alone on this one. Not even notorious hack critic Schmucky McBribedalot at Home Video Reviewz could bring himself to defend "Ed".

(Thanks to Shannon for putting this poll together!)

Go forth and perform your civic duty!

Note: General website performance fixes to be deployed sometime tomorrow.

  5. This is a movie in which a character knows how to play "Walk Away, Renee" by the Left Banke (or the version done by The Four Tops) on the motherfucking piano, but doesn't know what Sly and the Family Stone is. It might be a comparatively minor detail, but it's just an example of how this movie is willing to tell both it's audience and logic to go fuck themselves. It is not concerned with such minor issues such as making sense or being enjoyed.

As a massive Left Banke fan, I had to check this out on YouTube, and it hurt my soul. Still, more believable than if they had done "Pretty Ballerina" I suppose.

  6. Yeah, I wasn't expecting the tags sitch to get so out of hand either. An earlier version gave users the ability to remove tags, but I was concerned about THAT being abused, too. I think the tagging system might take some rethinking, anyway. And I'm open to suggestions!

In the meantime, I've added #RolandEmmerich (description: "Every movie's a disaster")

  7.

There's quite a few, but it would be much easier to just be able to link both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb if possible . . . ?

I promise, they are real/legit movies.

Sorry, IMDb had too many restrictions on what we could do with their API (couldn't import posters, etc).

If you submit your list of movies here or through the contact form at fyi.earwolf.com/contact we can do our best to get them added to the site.

  8. Is there a way you can add an option to sort by the latest added (maybe also: most voted on, average user rating, rt ratings, etc. as well)? I spend way too much time on this forum and will also spend way too much time on FYI, so I would love a way to find movies that I have not yet had a chance to weigh in on.

You currently are able to sort by Average Rating and RT Rating, just click the column header to sort Ascending, then click it again to sort Descending. We could definitely add the ability to sort by latest added, it might take a couple days to implement.

  9. So a few questions:

Should the voting be disabled for others? (I figured out that I could do so by substituting "results" for "movie" in the URL.) Also, will votes carry over between polls?

That trick doesn't actually register a vote for that movie, it just shows what the page would look like if you voted for it. Which you can't :) .

At any rate, once every "election" is over, every movie will start again with a clean slate.

This one confused me. Are we rating how much we actually like the movie, or how appropriate we think it is for the show? I personally went through on the second assumption, voting high for stuff I want to see and voting low for movies I didn't think fit.

    More garbage = more garbage.

  10. Have you ever wanted to RECOMMEND MOVIES to the gang?

Have you ever wanted to VOTE ON MOVIES for them to tear to shreds?

Have you ever wanted to SIGN UP FOR A NEWSLETTER????

Stop dreaming. Start doing. Early next week is going to be NEXT LEVEL BONKERS.

  11. We're going to be implementing the HTML5 SoundCloud player this weekend, so the more frustrating playback bugs should no longer be an issue.

That said, the SoundCloud player also does not include volume controls, and there are no plans on their end to include them anytime in the short term. Their studies show that most listeners use their computer's master volume controls to listen, so they view it as an unnecessary feature (and sorry, based on my own listening habits, I tend to agree with them).

There's a chance we'll implement something custom down the line, but for now, if no volume controls are a dealbreaker for you, I recommend listening directly on Earwolf's SoundCloud page, where every show we release is reposted. They have a volume control module in the top right corner of their site.

    Thanks for your understanding!

  12. We're looking into alternatives for the current players. The issue is, the standard SoundCloud HTML5 widget is too large to fit well on our website without some reorganization of the layout, and that takes time. We're working to get something more usable for everyone as soon as we can.
