A while back, I found this interview with Aasif, where he is promoting The Last Airbender. He was talking about how exited he was about the movie, but you could easily tell he knew it was garbage. Very depressing.

I don't know why, but I always laugh a little when I watch that movie. Maybe it's his delivery or just my inability to take him seriously.

I don't think Vince Vaughn has been funny in anything since the Gus Van Sant Psycho remake.

I know people feel very strongly about this, but could we maybe try to steer the topic back towards the movie?

I don't think that anyone did any research on anything.

I couldn't find this movie anywhere on the forum so I figured this was worth submitting. Bill Murray has a very funny quote about the movie. I don't know if it would work well for the show though.

There are a couple​ some of things that you guys might have missed: If everything on Earth evolved to kill humans, then why does the bird sacrifice itself to save Jaden? That's the exact opposite of killing him. Will's daughter in the movie is named Senshi, a Japanese word meaning "warrior." Kinda ironic considering what happens to her. 1,000 years in the future, everybody has weird accents because all of the people of the Earth came together or something, but everybody speaks English instead of Mandarin. On top of that, the English language seems to have remained completely stagnant, and the only other country that seems to have had some discernible impact on their new culture is Japan. Jaden is supposed to be a scaredy-cat in the beginning of the movie, but wasn't terribly afraid of the giant monkey-baboon-things. Wouldn't throwing rocks at giant apes be considered fearless? The movie tries to say "face your fears head on," but instead says something more along the lines of "don't be afraid of anything ever." Humans have a fight-or-flight response, so never being afraid would actually be to a person's detriment. Apparently in the future, tigers are still a thing. The crippled veteran who has a high tech wheelchair instead of crutches or prosthetics, should probably not even be crippled at all; in 1,000 years we should have already discovered human limb regeneration, and made it affordable. Why do the tigers even need to attack to the birds nest at all? They're tigers! Can't they just hunt giant monkeys or something? If the Ursas could sense fear, then how was younger Jaden able to hide from them when they killed his sister? Seriously, how are tigers not extinct?

Wait, there's a sequel?

Considering that Will came up with the original idea after watching I Shouldn't Be Alive, it's kind of a surprise that it even got made at all.

Yeah, that's a good point. I just figured that if he was scared, running away would have been his first response. It makes more sense that he was just dumb and threw a rock. They might have. I'll admit, I didn't pay much attention.

The dialogue can be cheesy occasionally, but I really liked this movie.

My theory about the name (yes, I actually have a theory about this) is that when writing the movie, Will Smith believed that bears could smell fear. "I heard that there were these things called Ursas in After Earth, so I went hoping I could get to see some bears. Sadly, the movie had no bears whatsoever. Unacceptable. 0/10 stars." - Some guy who really likes bears

Err, did I use that hyphen correctly? Is it bearlike or bear-like?

Also, I'm not really an expert on evolution, but I'm pretty sure that 1,000 years isn't nearly enough time for anything to evolve, let alone every species on the planet.

What really confused me is why everybody chose not to use guns. If you had guns, you wouldn't even have to worry about hiding your fear, because you could just kill the Ursas without even getting near them! Also, why are the aliens called Ursas? The name suggests that they are bear-like in some way, yet they look and act absolutely nothing like bears.

I had to ask, because I doubted that anybody could hate on the new one.

Oh yeah..."Here Comes the Boom" happened. What if they did a two-hour long special with all three of those? They could call it "How Did Kevin James Get Work."

Unfortunately no. This was in theaters for a few weeks. On the plus side, apparently nobody went to go see it (it made under one million dollars worldwide)!

I just Wikipedia'd this, and I'm pretty sure that somebody at Feature Films for Families (great name for a company, by the way) wrote the page for it. That's the only way I can rationalize the massive plot summary, and section on "Availability."
