EPISODE 74 — The Horrible 90s Hit Song That Explains The Modern World
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Cracked Podcast
The fact that you guys are still talking about "We Didn't Start The Fire" from 1989 is probably evidence for it NOT being a terrible song. Being in the zeitgeist some 25 years after release is a pretty sweet accomplishment. Also I think your interpretation of the song is a bit off, since he talks about things that are not necessarily bad, he's not just saying that we didn't do the bad stuff. I think he's trying to say something similar to what you are saying, we are not responsible for anything in the past but we reap the benefits as well as the negatives and we tried to fight against it (imagine a teen rebelling against everything) The "fire" being the very spark of culture. -
I think at this point it's no longer about you, it's about people professing their love of James Adomian.

This is exactly why Adomian's characters are literally next level shit, and I feel it's the same reason some don't "get" his stuff. You really don't need to be laugh out loud funny to be comically interesting; that character was part intellectualism, part social commentary, and part parody via the number's gag. Some people find that unrelatable, I find it refreshing! Also at the end of the day all comedy is 100% relative so it sort of depends where you are mentally and culturally. Speaking of the relativity of comedy I think it's interesting to note that while people give Nick Swardson shit his brand of humour is probably ( I don't have the money or the want to research this ) the ONLY kind that would play cross-culturally; after all what sorts of stuff would get laughs say in Chile? Most likely the story of the crazy lady pooping on someone's doorstep, not the multi-layers of sarcasm or callbacks. Sorry for the rant Sorry not sorry!
-
I dare say Adomian is one of the most creative, culturally resonate, funny and talented people to have graced my ears. He's probably explored and forgotten more than most people have learned! I would gladly slap a man with a dueling glove over the veracity of his stuff.

EPISODE 9 - The Annual Ghost Sex Convention
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I'm guessing the only reason no one busted out then into "I'm the Scatman" was to avoid stumbling and looking foolish. -
Did that laughter from Scott while talking to Swardson sound really genuine to anyone else? I love James Adomian with all my heart and also with my pee pee. Edit: Adomian's headshot really weirds me out!

I don't know. Edit. I know. I will be adding the podcast "Hollywood Handbook" to my podcast receiving application. C+

EPISODE 7 - A UFC Weigh-In
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
This is good radio! I also really enjoy the ads with the male and female character stuck in precarious situations. For my money (which is in fact zero since I'm not paying a flippin' dime!) this is great stuff. I will buy your junk and watch your specials! -
EPISODE 350 — Helmets, Aqueduct, Crucifixion, and Boobs
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I love Richter he's very human - which is more than I can say about most Hollyweirdos! Also I really don't understand the success of Hollywood Handbook, Sean and the other one's conversational style sound very similar to me bullshiting with other ding-dongs. Edit: I found out they were intentionally obtuse and clueless, so now I realize I sound difficult and dumb Hollywood Handbook now appeals to me! Will give it a listen. -
He did for 20 years, but he stopped in 2012. I think he had Only in America on some promotional material in the 90s but I couldn't find a link. Or I could be confusing in with the made for TV movie from the 1997 Don King: Only in America in which he talks about washing his hands *before* he touches his dick; which has stuck with me to this day!

Having lived in Branson, Missouri for a while I clicked on this link hoping for some Yakov Smirnoff

I love you guys with all my heart and my pee pee

Great EP. Paul Scheer charac's might not always explore fertile territory, he is still literally one of the most personable and likeable people in the world! The back and forth between Lapkus and PFT is fuckin' bonkers! Timekeeper? More like laugh keeper! Because he kept me laughing! I need to re-listen to this episode as I clearly missed some gold while in the car while "rolling restlessly by a 24 hour moon" Yep, a Tom Waits ref suck it up haters! Also Scottie, I know you never read this crap but i'd be happy to beatbox as your musical sidekick (I can literally beatbox for hours without repetition and do so at great consternare à partir de me neighbros) Is this post pretentious? God I hope so! I mixed latin AND french AND dude'kid into one flippin' sentence! Is this post too long and self-aware? This post thinks so.

EPISODE 223 — Releasing the Bully
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca
Going out with a bang baby! Great EP! Lit-ta-ra-ly my favorite podcast; sad; but also excited to see what's next for Mr Ducca! (I'm also a little disappointed he never explored the idea of having to work giving Bob super powers or something similar, oh well beggers can't be choosers!) -
EPISODE 221— Listening Club
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca
I love this podcast so much! Currently the first show I listen to on my list! And without a doubt it has some of the best usage of sound for added effect, this one for instance used a ton of silence; never laugh so hard at literally nothing! Don't use too much silence in your podcast though or the copyright's holder of that John Cage's song 4 33 might sue your asses! http://edition.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/23/uk.silence/ -
EPISODE 216 — Being Your Own Parent
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca
This podcast is consistently impressive to me! The sound based bits are wonderful, and Bob Ducca is a great enduring character. I would love to hear an episode where Ducca exhibits his own super power of being a psychic vampire. Maybe he unknowingly staves off an invasion of psychic aliens hell-bent in destroying the world in some type of super special war of the worlds like podcast episode! Also... would love to hear an episode where he exhibits super-human strength trying avoid something that triggers him; like a doctor explaining to him that he's fine! Ok, Maybe I'm a weirdo for super-powers -

PPS: from those screencaps Pardo is pretty damn photogenic. Get that man some acting roles! -
Episode 1606 - Alison Rosen
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Never Not Funny: The Jimmy Pardo Podcast
Good thing I stopped listening to Carolla before he fired Rosen! I have a very broad range of tolerance and I'm a huge asshole, and I even thought some of the stuff Carolla said was in poor taste. PS: Allison is pretty delightful. -
Too early to vote for best ofs? This has got to be one of them! Michael was honestly delightful. From the pictures I immediately knew which one he was because he had the nicest shoes! Great ep.
-
Even trained comedy professionals can't handle the Tom Leykus character! you know what I'm tatababoboblkin about baby! I DON'T CARE! Great work from everyone even with that cold-ass (wooden?) crowd.

Paul F. Tompkins presents Spontaneanation (Teaser)
Brian_Eno replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
PFT could murder babies and I would still FULLY support him ( and I love babies )
