Episode 191.5 - Minisode 191.5
taylor anne photo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
They do that in Grey's Anatomy too. An entire episode is dedicated to how the other residents discover that Katherine Heigl stripped and did erotic modeling during med school and post her photos all over. But I also like that she gets a good monologue where she yells at them all for slut shaming her and she gets to walk proudly knowing she isn't weighed down by student loans because all of that paid for her college. The whole concept is a double edged sword for sure, and I have yet to see Striptease but I imagine they probably didn't cover the subject as well as they did on Grey's. -

I'm just now enjoying going through my memory bank of any time another movie, show, or song references this movie. Personally love this bit from Love, Actually

Musical Mondays Week 40 La La Land

Lol well everyone certainly has a price. I tried to convince myself yesterday that there would be no price point to make me go to a call center job and I stopped myself mid sentence and admitted, "No, I can think of a dollar amount that would get me in..." -

Are you sure that's not just someone doing some wish casting? I can't find a single legitimate article that confirms this, and Letterboxd doesn't pull from IMDB but rather TMDB which is a fan updated site. -
Dang y'all almost forgot this nugget. Saw Hearts Beat Loud on Sunday (it's perfect everyone should go see it) and Kiersey Clemons makes a damn Titanic reference towards the end. I have to say, no matter who likes this movie or not we all have to admit this thing has staying power. Everyone has seen it and everyone is still making references to it.

BB2K is on Cinemax in case anyone has that. Trying to save some money for y'all. -
Omggg it was Helga! Idk maybe then I'm just noticing some bad acting, cause I never once got a feeling that Rose was ever friendly with this woman. Like I swear y'all every time my mom and I would watch this we would both yell at the tv "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM BITCH?" Also tbh I legit would have never recognized her. I feel like maybe that little nugget of a scene would have been more impactful if they have left the scene in where Fabrizio says goodbye to her.
-
Nah dude I promise you it's a look of disgust. She even kind of gives the same look again when the woman, who didn't follow Jack and Rose's lead and was not on the other side of the railing, slipped and fell down onto the pile of people. They could have even grabbed her and pulled them up with them but instead they literally just watch as she struggles and then falls and there's no empathy from either one of them. There was no moment shared between them because the blonde woman looked nothing but terrified and Rose honestly looked disgusted by what was next to her. It's the one thing that actually doesn't make any sense to me in the entire movie. I mean I get that in times of crisis people's empathy can go out the window, but the whole time they had both been trying to actually get people to go to the boats and save others and then suddenly this moment happens and I still have yet to figure out what it means. At first my mom and I thought it was that "much younger wife" of Victor's (is that his name in the movie cause that's his name on Young and the Restless so that's all I can refer to him as), but then in our many many rewatches we decided it's not her so we can't figure out wtf Rose's deal is.

Damn I thought that was Across the Universe but okay -
Oh fuck sorry for the triple posts, but here's a question my mom and I have still about this movie. Towards the end, when Jack and Rose are on the back of the ship as it goes vertical there's this blonde woman that I don't recognize that makes eye contact with Rose, then - for seemingly no reason - Rose sneers at her and makes this face before turning away from her and paying attention to Jack again. Who the fuck was that woman and why does Rose turn into such a bitch in that moment?! They were all terrified of literally being on a sinking ship and Rose still has time to be petty??? I tried to look this up but unfortunately don't know how to describe it well enough to get any specific results, but I did unfortunately stumble upon an old forum that had been saved through Google from March of 1998 where there appears to be first documentation of a troll starting a topic that literally is called, "Rose is too fat," so that's lovely.
-
I like also that it wasn't just a nudge to the audience like "eh get it cause there weren't enough lifeboats!" but later when Rose gets Mr. Andrews to tell her the truth this exchange happens - Thomas Andrews: Please, tell only who you must. I don't wanna be responsible for a panic. And get to a boat quickly, don't wait. You remember what I told you about the boats? Rose DeWitt Bukater: Yes... I understand. I always liked the exchanges between them because Mr. Andrews seemed to know how smart Rose was and knew she could always follow along after she made that spot. So for me it wasn't just saying to the audience that the ship didn't have enough boats but that Rose was smart enough to catch this and realize how imperative it was for everyone's safety to get on one as soon as possible.

She basically did when he interrupted her the MOMENT she started the story.

Okay now I'm gonna fight AFI

See I disagree with you there solely just because it literally sat at #1 in the all-time box office until Avatar came out. The feelings around the actors may have changed (although if you were like me and on Tumblr from 2009 until 2015 then you would also have seen that any time Leo and Kate got photographed together the whole damn site blew up) but the feelings around the movie being this Big Deal haven't changed. Like it really doesn't even matter who likes it or doesn't, because Tom is right - she has retained so much of this movie from when she first saw it and I think that puts it in an entirely separate league from a lot of movies.
-
No, I get that we are literally all on the same page here, but there seemed to be certain lines in posts that made me want to clarify things. Like I wasn't saying that you were saying "all women must like this movie" but rather it seemed like you thought that's what was already being said in response to the sexism comments being made and I read everything and was kinda like wait where is any of that implied? And that's when then your response came back seemingly on the defense saying that we were calling anyone who didn't like it a sexist or that you and Tom were ignoring sexism and I was like again wtf where was that implied? Cause believe me I would have already called your ass out if I thought you were being sexist
-
I see I see. Definitely fair. Titanic hitting so big definitely puts it in a league of its own, and it is definitely a worthy discussion to see whether it still holds the same traction as it did back in the day, but it also definitely seems like we're all never fully going to agree on that lol. (Also why isn't Clueless on this list??? It's genuinely perfect)
-
I don't think you're really understanding the post I then made that you quoted. I've already stated that MG and Clueless have no hatred towards them because I think they're indeed better movies as a whole, so I positioned that maybe we take other movies that could possibly better be set up against Titanic than two comedies that are universally loved. And to be fair, it was Amy and Paul that mentioned teen girls to begin with so I believe that's why we're all focusing so hard on that demo alone.
-
Yeah I also just remembered that I legitimately heard Graham Elwood say last year on Comedy Film Nerds when Lady Bird was coming out, "Because we definitely needed another movie about being a teenage girl." Suddenly making me want 10 movies about being a teenage girl to come out lol.
