Since now we're talking about extremely talented people and other talented people that feel like they're not doing enough - Matt Sharp wrote this song for The Rentals about comparing himself to Elon Musk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taupuK6oND4 -

I mean I know that there were talented artists making money in that time, as there typically are in every decade, but what I mean was that the public conscious of artists must have been in a boom. This does make me think though that their famous street artist Whos Name I Can Not Remember But Youtube Told Me Was Signor must be based on Basquiat because he was a graffiti & street artist and that actor they got to play that dude does share a resemblance to him. Also, nothing like seeing that an extremely famous artist had international success and died by the age of 27 to make you look at your own 28 years of life... -
I had heard rumors it was also because the studio wanted to downplay his bisexuality as well as the AIDS crisis, so if they are still going down that route then we're gonna have a bad time...

Of course art is all completely subjective but in talking about modern art, especially like the one you pictured, that is not what Dude Who's Name I Forgot But Youtube Called Signor did at all. His art was street art and honestly the stuff Terrence had on his wall was, in my opinion, rather good. You never really see what kind of paintings Claire did except for what I assumed were her own handmade curtains that she painted hanging up. Other than that you never actually what kind of art these artists did. So if they were trying to poke at the modern art culture then they were failing. ART HISTORY NERD OUT TIME Also, if they were really trying to poke at the modern art culture, then they failed by having one of the two females with lines be their representative of modern art. Why? Modern art, and modern art spaces, are inherently misogynistic. When art museums were first created they were created to look like the home, because that's where people would want to hang art and these museums would be representative of what people would want to see inside their home. But then modern artists came along and decided that they didn't want their space to be "feminine" because women belonged in the home and they didn't want women in their spaces. So they created what is called the "white cube" for their pieces, like the one above. So when I think about Claire then being the artist representation it makes double no sense because this movie is terribly misogynistic to begin with so if it's trying to label the woman as the problem by being the artist in Chilly's life instead of labeling the man, Donald, that built this space to begin with then it's only adding to the problem in the art world instead of solving anything. -

I just remembered another thing that kinda made me laugh during this movie. In what world are the artists the corporate sell outs that are being funded by some Donald Trump-like mogul? It was so bonkers that Claire was a painter and seemed to be the complete opposite of what a painter would actually be like. And the other dude who's name I forgot but the Shitty Youtube Captions told me was "Signor" was a street artist that basically became Banksy once he was properly funded??? The 80s must have had an art boom because I don't know too many genuine artists that are getting money thrown at them by business moguls. -

How dare you sir...... yes, I saw season 1...... There are certainly a couple of episodes that leave you rolling your eyes but they lean so hard into the ridiculous teen drama that it ends up working. I cut the chord so I haven't gotten the chance to see season 2 yet but a friend of mine adored it. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S9c5nnDd_s I am already extremely attracted to Rami Malek and I've never been more attracted to him than I am when he is Freddie holy shit.

Y'all we've been talking about the Grease references and how we all thought he was ripping off Danny's vibe in this, but I can not believe none of us mentioned that Lorenzo Lamas was in Grease!!! He played "Tom Chisum" who I had absolutely no memory of, but when I talked about this with my mom she said he was Sandy's jock boyfriend that Danny was jealous of. This breaks a whole new light on Lorenzo literally now embodying a character he probably was dying to be the whole time. Sorry Lorenzo, but you ain't no John Travolta. -

No, he lived down the hall from her in a separate apartment but apparently Donald owns the entire building. Sheila asked him if he wanted to stay the night with her cause Donald would never have to know but he just walked out and went to Darlene. -

Honestly I was worried about throwing him in as well because he isn't a willing participant in this conversation, but I'm with you in that I think he had mentioned being "randomly" stopped. And I don't think any of us believe it's because of his Greek name. (Also, true story, I get "randomly" stopped every time I go to the airport but I think that has to do with my boobs... not joking I think they believe I'm smuggling shit in my bra) -

Episode 188 - Body Rock: LIVE!
taylor anne photo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Yes, exactly. But according to historical records a lot of that kind of prejudice against the Italians and Irish ended in America around WWII. And as an Irish girl I'm very aware of the shit that my ancestors went through when they were leaving Ireland and arriving here (My father's side even changed their name to sound less Irish and more English). I've even seen Irish Americans use all of this in their dumbass "what about..." in the face of true racism in this country. No thanks, I'm never going to use anything my ancestors went through as a justification to spread white supremacy. Which is why it kinda just rubs me the wrong way when I see very white Europeans claim these kinds of things. Just to bring it back to the podcast a bit, I've heard Jason say he is a white man, and honestly I suspect he has endured some racist comments because he has dark skin and could easily pass as Middle Eastern. No one that would care about the color of his skin would care that his background is from Greece (or that he was really born in Massachusetts) but it's his race that makes them up in arms. Of course this is just assuming he has gotten these kinds of things thrown at him at all. ANYWAY sorry to everyone for the complete digression away from the movie but I just agree with Ryan Sz that I believe Luigi is a white man lol. -

So I'll definitely clarify that I am the whitest of the white as well. For those that have seen photos of me, and have met me in person, know that I am blue eyed and blonde and actually got mistaken in Reykjavic as being a local (legit this guy tried to speak Icelandic to me and I was like oh no no no), so I'll be the first to say that I have absolutely no idea what it is truly like for people of color in this country. But I believe that ethnicity and race get confused with each other more than we think, and in that sense I have to disagree with you. Only because a lot of my friend group have Eastern European roots (there is a large Czech population in Texas) and they all have dark hair and dark eyes and none of them would ever say they experience any kind of prejudice against them for that in this country, because their skin is still white. There is a different kind of prejudice here than I see in Europe, which I believe does have more to do with where you are from rather than solely the color of your skin, but here I never see someone get put on blast if they have dark hair and dark eyes. I mean take Melania Trump, for example, she is an immigrant from Eastern Europe but she is considered the "right kind" of immigrant because she's white. No one seems to have a problem with her, but if an immigrant's skin is any darker than hers then holy shit there needs to be a ban or a wall or whatever else kind of racist thing they want to throw around. Again, I'm probably not even the right person to talk on this subject. I recognize the privilege that comes with being white, blonde, and blue-eyed. But I also want to stick up for the POC in this country and we just do not see white people that even have dark hair treated anything like the way latinx, Muslim, and black people are treated. Although the Jewish population has been under attack again because of the rise of the alt-right but they've been targeting those with Jewish last names rather than what they look like. Also, you're so right that I should never underestimate racism in ignorant people lol. -

Mother's Day convo with my mom: Me: Have you seen Body Rock? It came out in 1984. Mom: Never heard of it I don't think. Me: It was a break dancing movie. Mom: Then no. Me: Also starred Lorenzo Lamas. Mom: Then definitely no. I tried to avoid things I knew were going to be shit. Also happy Mother's Day, June!!! -

So I just read something EXTREMELY interesting that I didn't know about beforehand, because I too was very confused about when Italians started saying they were not white but here's what I read: So I had no idea the government with their ever lasting xenophobia had classified these backgrounds as non-white to justify the bigotry but I'm honestly not surprised. The thing is, which is pointed out at the end of this paragraph, that did all change. I now understand why Italians have been saying this, but I still think that when I hear modern Italians claim racism it's a bit of a slap in the face to people of color living in 2018. I'm not saying that there aren't non-white Italians, because that would be ignorant, but I've heard some very pasty white people recently tell me they're not white because they're Italian and I hate to break it to them but their skin color provides them with white privilege. Anyway, not trying to start a politically charged debate at all! It was something that I also found odd when I first heard it and wanted to do some proper research onto why I've been hearing that more and more lately! -

I started watching the movie again and Chilly immediately ditches his friends at minute 42. Everything I wrote about him being not selfish in the beginning of the movie goes down the drain 2 minutes after I called quits lol! But that just makes me ask... why? Was it really just the rush of working in this successful club? One minute he's telling his friends about how he told Terrence he's gonna get a DJ and a Rapper and the next he's just getting into a limo and ditching them. There's no signs of true motivation that he would have done that. Dang this movie sucks. -

I wish I was more technologically inclined and I could actually help you lol. Cause if that's the only show on your feed not properly refreshing that sounds like some kind of internal mess up rather than something on your end, ya know? But that doesn't explain why I can still get it then. Shit's weird. -

Okay now that I've finished the episode I'm actually really happy I ended up not finishing this movie because Chilly was already unbearable in the first 40 so I can't even imagine what the hell he would be like in the last bit. But, to be honest, despite how unbearable he was I never got the sense that he was really that selfish in the beginning? I mean sure he was overly cocky for someone that had zero skills, but he 100% knew that his friends were more talented than him and had this entire plan for all of them to make it as stars rather than just himself. When Terrence tells him that he's the only one they want (again not sure why unless it's just because he's the talker and therefore kinda the front man) Chilly immediately says no and that he can't do it without the group. To me that's a pretty standup move and he never once even hides the fact that he was the only one picked from anyone else. It's Easy that tells him to go in and start pulling the rest of them in, and the last thing I saw before I gave up was that he did in fact pull Magick in so at first he was keeping his word. Obviously from what I heard on the podcast after I decided to stop he turns on his friends and girlfriend and becomes a huge dick, but I'm not sure if we really do see that at the beginning of the movie. But honestly I'm surprised they didn't talk more about Theo, Easy, and Darlene. Because the bits that I saw showed some real actual fully formed characters there. Theo and his group didn't talk much, but I loved this idea that this "gang" member (just using the term thrown out about him not trying to assume) would go to this VERY white club and support his little brother's dream, and seemingly everyone there respected the shit out of Theo and gave him the best spot to sit. I need to know more about him! Was he ever hesitant to let his little brother hang out with a bunch of lame white dudes? Did he ever fight with any of them until they all gained each other's respect? That's the movie we should be watching! As well as the story of Easy and Darlene's family! In the beginning Easy mentions getting kicked out by his dad because of his inability to hold a job (I think I heard that right) and when they're at their home Easy looks extremely uncomfortable and says he needs to fall asleep before their parents get home. What the fuck is going on in that house that Easy has to hide the fact that he's even there? Darlene obviously supports him, which again is exactly what siblings need from each other, but she never mentions what their parents are like or whether or not she has a good relationship with them. I know they mentioned that literally everything about Chilly would make him the sidekick or the villain but they didn't mention these two story lines that are there and then seemingly dropped. But if any of this gets explained after the 40 min mark let me know cause I am genuinely interested. -

I made it through 40 minutes of this movie before giving up and falling asleep cause I was so uninterested in the way the rest of this movie went. My only two notes were, "I feel bad for the clearly unpaid extras in this movie," and "Well it's nice that everyone supports each other. Theo and his crew go to see his brother dance every time and get so excited they break their glasses. That's the kinda support kids need." (Haven't listened to the episode so I'm not trying to take credit for anything spotted if these were mentioned already, just really wanted to get out my literal only two notes lol.) -

I finally actually got to listen to this episode today, but Paul there is a really good indie movie called TiMER starring Emma Caulfield where once you turn 16 you are given a timer in your arm that counts down to when you meet your soul mate. It's surprisingly cute and I saw it on Netflix but I'm not sure it's there anymore, but I recommend searching for it fo sho.
