I think when the movie starts and Yasmin is 14/15 he is supposed to be 12/13. Cause he isn't seen at the school so I'm assuming he's 2 years younger than her since he then goes to school with her in the time jump then making him 14/15. So yeah a 14/15 year old hitting on an 11 year old is weird and gross.

It was middle school as far as I remember, I believe 13 but now I think I might have been 12. And no! Most classic films I've actually been the one to introduce to my mom! I don't really remember how it happened to be quite honest, but I just remember seeing this and becoming obsessed like instantly. I could put a lot of reasons onto why it happened so suddenly but honestly just watching this again I was smiling like an idiot through the whole thing so it's not hard to figure out lol. EDIT: WAIT I REMEMBER! So I actually started to seek out her films when I was 13 because by that point I was already interested in her from her just being an icon. I already was clearly leaning towards a photographer mindset and was obsessed with the images taken of her. It was when I took that trip to LA in 2003, saw the handprints for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and bought that photo I posted earlier, that I went back home and found that movie to actually watch. Over the years I've been seeing more and more (they just did a day of her movies on TCM so I got three more in!) and reading more and more of her writings and the things people said about her, and I've really come to appreciate how complicated she was and the performances she gave.

Jesus. My knowledge of him definitely stops at his marriage to Marilyn but yeah none of this surprises me now. He was there for the filming of that iconic scene in The Seven Year Itch and flipped a fuckin shit because men were standing around and eyeing her and I'm pretty sure that was when they decided to get a divorce. Like it's a fucking movie dude and the whole point of this one in particular is that this guy is trying not to give in to his urges to cheat on his wife with this beautiful woman.

I think this is an interesting point. I never really got the vibe that she was really "flirting" in a traditional sense. Of course, she knew the power she had among men, and knew how to use it, but honestly most of what she did was just ask men questions and then tell them how interesting she thought it all sounded. And in all honesty, hearing about 1920s South Africa genuinely does sound interesting lol. I also think this gets into a topic of Marilyn herself. It's not doubt that watching this movie and watching how Gus reacted to the attention Lorelei got I thought about Marilyn's relationship with Joe DiMaggio. He was insanely jealous of the attention she got from men and even wanted her to quit acting all together so that she could be his good little housewife. His jealousy and attempts to control her career clearly drove them to divorce only to rekindle a friendship just months before she died. It saddens me to think that if he had just appreciated who she was as a person then they may have lasted and she may have survived... But I can also get into my conspiracy theory surrounding her death if y'all wanna go down that rabbit hole lol. But maybe that should be saved for Thursday

I believe you are right, but he did task Dorothy with minding her because he had no confidence that she wouldn't be behaved. It just struck me as odd (even when I first saw this at like 13) that he didn't trust her. Which, I completely understand that insecurity but I'm really hoping that he came to the conclusion that they would be fine once they got married, or else he really is going to drive her away.
