Am I the only one who thought the first Saw was the best? (granted I only watched the second one after and was so grossed out I never saw another)

Lol mostly I was just wanted to make fun of the ridiculousness of the way the story presented her, and then I delved back into how horrible it was at presenting a female character that's even slightly different than SMG. But you're right, they made her to be way hypocritical and therefore just as controlling as this dude could be. I'm still on the train that SMG should stay away from him because magical lust =/= love and we do not know this dude.

To your first point - What if she felt the need to put her schedule onto his because she felt he needed to control everything about her life already? What if from the get go we've been mislead about her because we only see her from SPF and SMG's eyes. Like I said in my earlier post... we don't know anything about her! After 3 dates she could have easily felt herself slipping into a dangerous relationship with SPF and was told through vibes that her whole life was now in his hands. But I seriously highly doubt that lol. To your second point - He actually says "...between two cushions." Unless my hearing is so off.

Not my point. The cab was already there and the dialogue was horrendous.

Remember when you could hear Tom say, "We'll never get a taxi here" and then they immediately got one that was about to drive off?

Eh I just decided to make a new post and not edit my old one My thoughts on the magic in this movie and love and SPF freaking out about all of it are as such - I think him freaking out is the most relatable thing about this movie. They meet after the magic has entered her life. Dan Akroyd points him out to her and then the crab literally leads her to him. So their meet cute has already been affected by magic. From that point to the point that they say they love each other has been all completely filled with magic. Plus they've gone on maybe 3 dates by that point? Which I guess they just did because of his love chart? How do we know they are actually in love? Every time we see any trace of it it's after something magical has happened, and in my opinion it never looks like love but rather more like lust. They make themselves horny from her food but I never actually see them do anything that's a result of pure undeniable love. This is why, in my opinion, Nolan seems like the more attractive option. They have compatible personalities and have known each other for forever. I do love seeing a healthy male/female platonic relationship being represented, especially one from the 90s, but this doesn't show a healthy romantic one at the same time. Like so many of us have even said, as soon as she meets SPF the topic of every conversation she has with Nolan from that point forward is about this stupid rich guy from Uptown. It's ruining her relationship with everyone else. That doesn't seem like love to me. That seems more like lust driven infatuation, and there's nothing in this movie to tell me otherwise. I give them 3-6 months. Oh and then when we see SPF later freaking out about the magic he talks about the removal of his free will WHICH IS SO ACCURATE! Did he ever get to make the choice in having feelings for her?! Like that would freak the FUCK out of me if I suddenly thought everything in my head was planted against my will! He also even later says he doesn't even like desert! Nothing about this dude is who he actually is which basically shows me they are not even in love. I think that even though Tom never ate the food at the opening of the restaurant he was already infected with the magic and still couldn't properly make that decision himself. And it's the same thing Jonathan should be asking about Patricia Clarkson cause she definitely drugged him with that eclair!

Okay I am so behind on work but I really really want to get into the whole "love" situation going on in this movie, and why I think it's actually rather appropriate that Tom freaks out over the magic and the romance. So this is my place holder to dive into that because it's way later in the day than I thought and I hate working on Fridays.

Lol no I'm all for anyone bringing up any bull shit in these movies! I was gonna totally bring up that I was way more attracted to Sous Chef Nolan than Sean Patrick Flannery the whole movie. Not that SPF isn't a good looking guy that I would go out with, but Nolan was a way more interesting character and seemed to actually give a shit about SMG's life and personality.

Oh Cameron you stole my "this week in feminism in shitty movies" topic right out of my mouth! She had said maybe all of three words to Amanda Peet's character and then immediately started going into how she "hates girls like her." Pray tell Miss SMG, what kind of girl is she? Do you even know who the fuck she is? Or are you just as shallow as you claim this guy to be for dating her in the first place. What if she turned out to be an activist who just was really confused as to why they weren't in the right spot that they told the cab driver to be, and then had to watch as this stranger and her new boyfriend flirt right in front of her! That would make you look like an asshole! Honestly even if she wasn't an activist (seriously who was she? was she a model?) SMG still looks like an asshole for throwing a fellow woman under the bus just because she wanted her boyfriend. This is the kind of shit that puts it into society that women should always be competing with each other for the attention of men and that just doesn't fly with me.

See there's a restaurant attached to a mall here that my mom and I like to do brunch at sometimes and then we'll run to a few shops afterwards. They may really just be banking on the female demographic to keep that place running.

This may be my favorite second opinion theme of all time.

I haven't seen every HDTGM movie either. Now a lot of them are popping up on Netflix & Amazon Prime so I've been going through the back catalog once I see the movie to re-listen to the episodes. I try not do it through sketchy sites (anymore - I did with TBND cause I NEEDED to see it and no redbox in my area had it on DVD) so if it's up on YouTube I'll watch the shit out of it! ETA: I just checked and unfortunately it's not on YouTube. It's those stupid things where for two hours it's just one image telling you which shady site has it. Blerg.

Is Simply Irresistible worth the $3.99 on Amazon video? I really enjoy keeping up with the movies but I'm also a poor sap who really wants to spend money wisely.
