EPISODE 110 β The Island of Dr. Moreau
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I bet Nic Cage has been keeping Paul late on the set of Army of One to talk to him one-on-one and try to explain some of his acting choices so that Paul will love and appreciate his work... Even more than he already does. -
EPISODE 110 β The Island of Dr. Moreau
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
The return of Juuuuune, in the flesh! Omission, but really more just a crazy fact: director of Dust Devil and Hardware, Richard Stanley, was fired from Dr. Moreau which was his project that he had worked on and obsessed over for years. It was rumored that he snuck back onto the set as an extra in order to observe and sabotage production. In his own words, when nothing else worked, he turned to black magic and witchcraft. He later made a documentary in 2002 called The White Darkness, about voodoo in Haiti. -

It took me way too long to realize this, but Dabney's last name is a reference to the actor "Dabney Coleman"... Very progressive of you, Aukerperson -

With all of the crazy shit that happened in production, I'd love to see a dramatized version that follows John Cusack playing Richard Stanley. I'm going to rewatch the movie and also try to watch the documentary before we get this episode of HDTGM. Here's the trailer for the doc:- 23 replies

I actually really enjoyed The Faculty as a kid, and even when I watched it again within the last few years.

EPISODE 7 - A UFC Weigh-In

I was going to say the same thing, it's such a simple idea but it's ingenious. These are ads I actually enjoy listening to, which is somewhere on a scale from very rare to never happens. -
Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore, but really anyone can pick them up for free. Sally has no business sense.

Third week in a row! I'm starting to think this is actually going to stick around for awhile. Plus Scott has clearly practiced the delivery for hours, so it would be a waste to just change it now. -
EPISODE 349 β The 6th Anniversary Show!
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
Scott is definitely doing a callback to that! He also did it in the most recent Victor and Tiny appearance, Athlete's Head. It was one of the biggest laughs for me in each episode. -

Thedge, I think it means that Paul's bow tie is much like Thor's hammer MjΓΆlnir or the Green Lantern's power ring in that whoever wields it is granted the full powers of Paul F Tompkins. These powers are varied and remarkable but can also be very dangerous if the wearer is not true of heart and noble of spirit. At the present time it's very likely that the tie has bonded itself to the current PFT and will only pass to a new wearer when the original dies or chooses to relinquish it. At that point, the new tie-wearer will cease to be himself or herself and become the Paul F Tompkins. -
EPISODE 349 β The 6th Anniversary Show!
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I really don't know what to say about this episode, but I'll try to say something... It definitely lived up to its predecessors, and everyone had me laughing. Cake Boss, Ho-Ho, Scrooge Mc... uhh, Brad Hammerstone? John Lennon, and of course newcomers Klaus, Rickster and (tick tock) The Timekeeper. I'll agree with the above sentiments that The Timekeeper was fucking awesome, but I can't remember a Neil Campbell character I didn't like. I'm still hoping for a Winsome / Dalton Wilcox crossover, since Winsome is clearly some kind of dark immortal entity and Dalton doesn't stand for that kind of horseshit. This is the first podcast in awhile that made me laugh so hard that I had to stop working out for a moment just to laugh and rewind a bit. I think Paul was actually fishing for a "Technicality No Down Boo Over" but Scott didn't pick up on it... I also think Scott sounded a bit drunk or high or something in this episode, or maybe just full of joy; sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in Scott as a host, but only for one specific reason: it's an audio show and he's never mentioned in the past that Alan Thicke is blue and his lower half is a trail of mist leading into a lamp. Really fucked that one up, Scott. At least now I have the full visual. I didn't read through all of the comments so I'm sorry if this was already brought up, but did anybody else catch Ho-Ho's "like Outkast!" about "alright alright alright alright"? Lapkus threw in some amazing lines throughout the episode, but that has to be my favorite and it seemed like it went unnoticed by the room. -

Hahaha, I wonder if Scott will really keep this! I guess we really can stop posting suggestions until we know for sure. Congratulations, Bronson. This must be a huge honor. -
Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
This movie is full of insanity and a good chunk of it is because of Nic Cage, but god damn the craziest thing is Travolta's face touching or "face waterfall". Out of all of them, the worst is when he does it to his daughter and you see his hand make her bottom lip flick. That alone might be the craziest part from the whole movie for me, and that's really saying something. I can't believe Paul said that was added by Travolta... Fucking creep! To think that's a reasonable thing for a human to do to another human means Travolta is definitely an alien AND a robot, a robot alien. -
Would this movie be better if it took place on a plane?

EPISODE 348 β Is Y'all My Daddy?
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I guess I must be a fanboy (which I've learned is just a word people use for other people who like something they don't or even just more than they do... thanks Marvel and DC "fanboys" for teaching me this through observation) because I've never suffered from PFTF, and I re-listen to alot of PFT episodes as I'm falling asleep. Same with Daly and Adomian; I'm not sure I could ever get sick of them. Also, the thing about fanboys, 9 times out of 10 it's a problem with the fan. Anyways, I've criticized Cam'ron before but I've since learned to follow the old "if you have nothing nice to say" rule, but damn she was good in this episode. Everything with her and JW just feels right, I love their ward relationship. They had me laughing throughout, but as hard as it was to do I think Gourley really stole the show. I had to (be kind and) rewind after a few of his expressions because he had me laughing so hard, pretty much everything he said in this episode was gold. This whole episode was a great soundscape. EDIT: I forgot to mention Paul's "Cluedo" references, a nice easter egg for Spontaneanation listeners.- 110 replies

EPISODE 108.5 β Minisode 108.5
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Paul's description of how Bruckheimer kept telling everyone to make everything bigger and crazier in Con-Air reminded me of George Lucas infamously wanting everything to be "Faster! More intense!" in Star Wars. -
EPISODE 5 - Mars Base 3
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
I just want to quickly reiterate: "Cluedo" was actually the original name of the board game, but when it came to North America they renamed it to "Clue" because the pun that the name "Cluedo" is based on wouldn't make sense to the majority of us. If a few more people can explain this in the thread I think it will really help clarify the point. "Madness personified" was probably my biggest laugh from this episode too, it was perfect. That and the passive-aggressive transition-fighting and the transition that caused a temporal paradox. -

The Littlest Hobo was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and they filmed several episodes in and around my hometown. Here's the intro, and at the 40 second mark you can see a hint about his dark past: This was another great episode, and if I knew Marc Evan Jackson was going to be a regular citizen of Spontaneanation then I would've been even more excited for the show. All of the guests have been great so far but I hope for much more from the Workjuice gang. -
EPISODE 348 β Is Y'all My Daddy?
Darbler Cheesegarbler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I agree with Scott, that plugs theme was unpleasant. Everything else was great, JW remains one of my favorite characters. Stealwater is a true villain... It's great that these folks can make me laugh about something so serious and current. I mean, have you seen the price of almonds lately?! Something must be done. -
Yeah I think you're right, Jarry. As great as it would be to do the third movie as their first and only episode on this series, it just makes more sense to do the first one. I hope they'll consider it!

I was going to post a new topic for the original Ghoulies but I think this one is good enough, and I completely agree with seanotron: any one of these movies would be perfect for HDTGM. Ghoulies: Ghoulies II: Ghoulies Go To College: This is one of the reasons this podcast is so great... Without them even doing any of the movies I've suggested, even just going back and picking movies that I've seen in the past to recommend brings back so many hilarious memories. I've only seen the first Ghoulies and had no idea the others even existed, so that's a nice bonus too. If I had to recommend just one, just say fuck it and go with Ghoulies Go To College. It seems like the most ridiculous and inexplicably has the best cast out of all three movies, and it's also trying desperately to imitate other popular college movies of that era in film (just a decade too late).

Reading about some other movies from 1986, I just learned that Crocodile Dundee had a budget of $8.8 million and made $328.2 million at the box office. Also, if you have no interest in watching Rad, at least watch the BMX dance scene:
