Episode 134 - Can't Stop the Music: LIVE!
Elektra Boogaloo replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
What I learned from my earlier wikipedia rabbit hole, is that a producer of this movie was Jacques Morali, who was the Lou Perlman-like founder of the Village People. Also the co-writer of most of the songs (the one Victor Willis doesn't dispute was involved per the copyright articles I read earlier.) Anyway, his idea for the band was based on gay dancers at disco clubs. The Steve Guttenberg character--Jack Morell--is him. Or an Americanized version of him. Basically, he produced this movie about himself. And then when Hollywood wanted it to be less overtly gay that is probably why they added the model character and her love interest, beefcake Bruce Jenner. I think no one disputes the line in the film--even though Sam should--because she's basically speaking for Morali there. https://en.wikipedia.../Jacques_Morali -

Well I hope Blake Harris gets to the bottom of this for us when that article comes out. I want to know who was fired from this movie and why. Because, furthering the mystery of the "girlfriend" Paul mentioned, Victor Willis was married to a young Phylicia Rashad from 78-82, when the movie would've been in production, right? So was the girlfriend his mistress? Or like just someone playing a girlfriend? Ha! I know, I'm not sure anyone ever thought YMCA was French. I mean, the pronunciation of the letters alone should give that away. -

Oh I didn't realize Willis left the group DURING the filming of this movie. Wikipedia made it seem like he left of his own volition before. Not that wikipedia is to be trusted. That's pretty impressive that they FIRED the guy who was lead singer and wrote most of their early hits (YMCA, Macho Man, In the Navy, obviously, but also some of the songs for this movie like Milkshake!) for not wanting to be in their big, gay movie. I mean they must've thought this was really going to be HUGE. Oh now I'm going down a rabbit hole about the copyright stuff with Willis. That was only decided last year! Wow! http://www.hollywood...ple-ymca-779420 -
Episode 134 - Can't Stop the Music: LIVE!

I thought the audience laughed quite loudly when she said "A dick? Forget it." Then when Pete starts talking about tits, and he and Jason kind of shout at each other for four minutes. Then when she talks about how the entire purpose of the podcast was set aside so they could talk about dicks, the audience is with her. Jason can't even speak because there is so much applause right then. I do think she was funny and I do think the audience was into her so I'm surprised by all of this " she wasn't funny" talk. I wish June had been there for this episode. I would've like to have heard her thoughts.- 560 replies

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and hope both Pete and Cameron come back to do Cruising. Because it sounds like Cameron has opinions and Pete can do his Pacino impression so it's a win-win. I laughed out loud a lot and I'm at work. Now I've gone down a rabbit hole or reading stuff about the Village people. I did not realize the cop in this movie is not the original cop and that neither cop is gay. This is entirely new information to me. Let's discuss whether or not Steve Guttenberg is a sex symbol though. Yay or nay? I thought he was definitely the hot guy in Cocoon. -

I'm kind of surprised people are saying Cameron brought up "the gay stuff" in a discussion of a movie about the Village People starring Bruce (now Caitlin) Jenner. And, without her there, it's three straight guys mocking a gay movie which I find more uncomfortable than dealing with things like "what do we call Bruce/Caitlin" upfront. The discussion of the penis as the least important sexual organ was maybe a little off topic, but you have to admit it definitely is for a lesbian. I'm a heterosexual lady and I went into a whole discussion of how weird the dick (and dick pics) in the thread for THE QUEST. I tend to agree with her. The penis isn't that important for my sexual enjoyment. But since I like guys, it's kind of attached (nailed it!) to the objects of my sexual desire. Anyway, I think we should direct this conversation back to Steve Guttenberg and how much we miss him being in everything. I wonder if it was one of the Village People that showed him how to live well.- 560 replies

I wish there were a Mike Tyson Punch Out movie for this show to cover.

I did watch the watchmojo video too. I thought the volvo one was weirder. With the Enya music and all. I don't know what I would do if a local political candidate ran this ad. Like I said, I hadn't seen the original until just now so I'd just be like, "Why is this asshole standing on two trucks?" But you know the campaign staffers thought they were HILARIOUS. Am I the only one who looked up French Oyster sex position and got nothing? And was vaguely disappointed? But then maybe I don't want to know. Maybe I'm like Jason and if it's not about fingering, who cares. I know the Viennese oyster but that is more about the lady flexibility. Unless Jon meant like with the positions reversed?? Why are all my posts today about dicks and sex positions?
-
Another thing. I hope you've all seen the epic splits commercial. I had not. I don't think June is going to be buying that truck.
-
Dunno about ugly. But definitely odd. Much of the human body is. What is with earlobes? I don't think it's making the best impression to send a dick pic if I am not already into it. Because then the best you get is comedy. Like the scene in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. I did see Nicole Byer was on Twitter drawing dresses on dick pics and sending them back when I looked her up last week when she was a guest. This got very off topic. Let's go back to JCVD. I think this elephant looks deeply ashamed to be involved with THE QUEST and want June to investigate what he or she got paid and whether he was properly billed.

A plea to return to bad movies
Elektra Boogaloo replied to KyleKnapp's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Ooh. I would be into another bad lifetime movie. Or maybe NICK FURY AGENT OF SHIELD because I don't think we have ever covered anything with David Hasslhoff and he deserves it. -
Let's not keep this between such a small group. Everyone needs to know. People have been confused about this for too long. After watching Amy's super cut of buns, I have to say, I do think I am with June in saying, for the most part, it doesn't do anything for me. Would much rather see chest or arms. Though buns over dick pics. I vaguely recall being into Chris Evans' butt in WHATS YOUR NUMBER though. So maybe you just need a Captain America grade butt for it to work.

I need to listen to this one again but did anyone else laugh when Jadon talked about how he's going to put together a team of clowns and street performers? It made me think of his fear of "The Clowns" who drove around in vans. We all know clowns are scary in general but now with them kicking you in the face and like walking on stilts? Here's my pitch: Highly trained ninja clowns who get in vans one night a year and kill street urchins. Jean Claude Van Damme has to come out of street urchin/clown retirement and punch them all in the nuts.

A plea to return to bad movies
Elektra Boogaloo replied to KyleKnapp's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I think it's a hard line to walk between movies that are fun to talk about but are bad. I had no problem with the Face/Off and Con Air episodes because I like it when there are different perspectives between the hosts/guest (I like that about Deep Blue Sea too). I agree that it's probably time to get away from the Cannon films. They've probably tapped that well. But more because I feel like a lot of people haven't seen them than them not really being bad. The ones I did see were hands down TERRIBLE. (For example, I don't always watch the movie and I was very confused by the Streets of Fire episode because I had no reference point.) I'd also argue there really haven't been that many very recent movies that Jason liked. I can think of Bloodsport and Teen Witch, which I both thought were good episodes. Whereas I thought the Covenant episode wasn't as fun and that is a movie they clearly all thought was dumb. -
It is like 6 am and I woke up with joint pain. Saw there was a new episode with a guest I was unfamiliar with and thought, "huh, lemme just see who this guy is and then I will listen when I am fully awake." Now I am like twenty minutes in; I should be back asleep for those last few precious moments before work. Instead I wanted to come to this forum to ask Cody, the (almost) hero of last week's show to please, please come back and show June the splits. You can be our hero again!! Second chances are REAL. Also if Paul is Groot, I think Jason must be Rocket. I'll leave it up to the rest of you to decide the rest (Gamora seems the obvious choice for June since she's the only lady. But I think you could make an argument for her being Drax or Starlord.)

I will cosign this letter. At the very least he should come back annually like the Vulture and the Pontiac Bandit. Oooh he could go undercover with the Pontiac Bandit to catch the Vulture's obvious mob ties. Hire me, show!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Elektra Boogaloo replied to zmbabwe's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I'll see it eventually just for Wonder Woman. I love Wonder Woman. And if this and Man of Steel got the Wondy movie greenlit, then there is at least some redemption to them. I feel bad that Routh gets all the blame for Superman Returns not doing well. (Much as I feel like people reacted to crazily about Affleck being Batman just because they didn't like Daredevil.) I thought he was good and I wished they had given him more to do. I didn't like the Lois/kid plot or a lot of the other stuff it had going on so I can't say I love the film but I liked it better than Man of Steel which, since I just said how much I hated MoS, I guess isn't that high a bar to get over. Random silly Supermen thing that makes me laugh: -

I was wondering if someone was going to suggest this. I actually don't like it when they do movies in theaters because I don't want to pay full admission. I want shit that is streaming. But some of the reviews have been hilarious. (I haven't seen it yet and probably won't until it's on VOD since I hated Man of Steel so much.) I posted on a social media site that I couldn't believe Warners gave Zack Snyder $300million (for Man of Steel) after Suckerpunch and someone tried to say it was a good movie. I referred them to this podcast. -

Seconded! Does anyone else keep reading "kumite" as "ku-might?" I've been amusing myself by pretended kumite is a type of marmite that Frank Dux invented. He won a competition for eating it. -
