    Episode 235.5 — Prequel to Episode 236

I had been meaning to try it but hadn't yet because my Mac is old and Macs in my experience don't work great with Chrome. I installed it to see if it would work (thought it might not in Canada) but so far so good if anyone wants to give it a shot.

    Episode 235.5 — Prequel to Episode 236

Which is available on Netflix here in Canada, and we usually have less stuff on ours than a lot of countries so hopefully(?) you guys have easy access to it.

    Episode 235.5 — Prequel to Episode 236

Hope nobody minds that I went ahead and started this topic, it didn't seem like there is some kind of rota for it so I hope I didn't overstep. As for the mini-episode, thanks Paul. For many of us, I think having the things we love still coming along at the usual times is a comfort for that stupid part of the brain that generates anxiety. Should you watch Resident Evil? Ordinarily I would say yes, at least for the very first one, which I thought was OK at the time. But, depending on how you feel about watching a series of films based on videogames about a biohazard, it might be a bit much for now. But if you're up to it, the first one is a solid horror picture, and much like Underworld, the quality drops off after that.

    Coronavirus movie group lists

I've got a bunch of the recent Criterion remasters of Godzilla to watch, but right now I'm watching an old Hammer picture called Dracula A.D. 1972 starring Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Stephanie Beacham. Haven't seen it in ages but now I'm thinking a Hammer Films marathon might be in order. I believe Troma has a promotion for their streaming service as well - lots of terrible movies to be found there.

    Coronavirus movie group lists

In a non-Cage related note, I noticed this link on comics/TV writer Warren Ellis' site today for a curated collection of foreign films, a la Criterion. I hadn't heard of this service before (and they're based in the UK, so I'm not sure if these discs are region-free) but their lineup is impressive if you like directors like Milos Forman: https://www.secondrundvd.com/browse.html Edited to add: I also heard that the horror streaming service Shudder is giving out free first months - probably a Cage film or two there. The promo code is SHUTIN.
  6. "VHS Quality" would be a good name for a Monkees album.
  7. Haha I just saw this because I skimmed the thread earlier but I was so close to suggesting Rock & Rule.
  8. Ha, shit, sorry everybody, didn't even realize it was my turn and uh anyway have we done Head? The Monkees movie? If not, that's my pick. Apparently you can watch it on the youtube.

I don't endorse Reddit one way or another but it is often a good place to find someone who has done a thing:

Episode 235 — Underworld: Blood Wars LIVE!

It basically reboots the series as Resident Evil, this movie, and then they discard most of it in the fifth. I remember hoping at the time that all of these trash scifi/supernatural films would merge into a shared cinematic universe.

This joke took at least an hour off my life, well done Cameron

Episode 235 — Underworld: Blood Wars LIVE!

Underworld III is the Halloween III of the series. Better than people tend to report and just really weird compared to the others. I like it too. My wife and I went to see it and made out for the first time afterward, so that was cool.

We need to start a coronavirus movie group

If people are looking for good stuff to binge while working from home or whatever, I highly recommend the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars and Rebels, as well as Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.

We need to start a coronavirus movie group

See, I was the opposite - loved S2 of Legion and didn't love S3 as much as I thought I would. What I should do is rewatch the whole series and all of Fargo, just to be safe.

    Non-political alternative to HDTGM?

I don't think you have anything to worry about; you're not a troll, you didn't create a forum account for the sole purpose of owning the liberals, you have sincere feedback about a podcast you actually care about, and I think that is pretty much what a forum like this is for, vs. whatever OP thinks he's doing. And I agree. It's not fun to hear June go off on an angry rant about how terribly women are treated in the US and around the world. She is a professional entertainer. She is well aware of the effect of something like that on a show, and I suspect her instinct as a performer is to use it sparingly and with great fury and focus, for maximum effect. There have also been times where she has injected "politics" into an episode - like the conditions that Hollywood animals perform under - where it's worked better and they were still able to wring some laughs from it. I applaud her taking her obvious passion for it and putting it into other vehicles that are targeted more at bringing political change. Everything we create happens in the context of the world we are living in. Pointing out that a film has aged poorly due to how it treats its female or minority characters is more than fair. It may feel kind of repetitive after a while, but that just kind of underlines the problem. It isn't a film's fault, or a podcast's fault, for simply acknowledging the terrible conditions of the society that it came from. One of the things that I like about HDTGM is that it DOES get real in that way sometimes. I have nothing but love and empathy for those who are actually making an effort to bring humour and comfort to others in the world. And as I get older, I have nothing but contempt for those who are just grown up frightened children trying to hold back others because Fox news told them to. That said, I wouldn't want to make life harder for actual fans who are here to extend their enjoyment of the podcast. Unless they are, for example, Trump voters, who have made it pretty clear that they want me and my kind dead, so... why would I ever be civil to them?

    Episode 234.5 — Minisode 234.5

Exactly, it's overrated. And yeah, I can easily see myself watching the new trilogy more often than the original, for now anyway, if only because I have seen the original so many times. Plus, if I'm honest, the new films look better, are better written and acted, essentially thematic remakes of the original. So it's like being asked if I want to watch the original version of The Thing, or Carpenter's, or the recent premake. I like them all. If pressed I'd say Carpenter's is the best in my mind, but I'm more likely to watch the other two, which I have seen less. I do think that 6 is just not a very good movie, so that doesn't help. SF trilogies weren't the shiny well oiled machines that they are now. Amusingly, ep. 6 was my first date with the girl who would become my first wife. But that has no negative connotation for how I feel about the film, just mentioning it because of my mentioning Underworld III earlier.

    Episode 234.5 — Minisode 234.5

I'd rather watch Rogue One and episodes 7-9 before 5 or 6 again, so Edited to add: psyched for Underworld next week, as far as it is possible to be psyched for that movie. One of my first dates with my wife was to see Underworld III, the one that doesn't star Kate Beckinsale, and we have been going to them since, along with all the other bad Legendary Studios monster horror chiller films like I, Frankenstein and Dracula Untold. Underworld III is like The Magnificent Ambersons by comparison. Edited to change 4 or 5 (insane) to 5 or 6 (relatively sane)

    Non-political alternative to HDTGM?

I can't imagine how, except I guess in the way that imbeciles on Fox News would mean it, ie. the opposite of what it actually means. 'Cause the thing is, kid, I'm not the one having a hissy fit and taking my marbles and going home when a podcast I claim to like doesn't align precisely with what my Republican masters tell me to think. I'm the one who is part of the LGBTQ community, putting up with hateful nonsense from entitled idiots on the internet for over 30 years now. Your username is well chosen, at least; you are a very familiar sort of troll. Tiresomely so. You can drop the poor innocent apolitical listener act. You started this thread to stir shit, to get a reaction, maybe to get some sympathetic DMs from any other creeps lurking here. So, you got what you wanted. Congrats.

    Episode 234 — Prelude To A Kiss

Yeah, Labatt was pushed pretty hard back then too, but you reminded me of a pretty amazing ad for something called Labatt Maximum Ice that starred Canadian treasure Michael Ironside with.. death metal and a cheap set? This ad would make a pretty good mini episode of the podcast:

    Episode 234 — Prelude To A Kiss

As one of the token Canadians on the board I guess I should weigh in on the Molson stuff? So here are some random facts that I know about Molson for those who want the info: - Molson was founded in the late 1700s in Montreal, making it older than Canada as a nation - it merged with Coors and is now a huge global brand as a result, though I think most of the Molson/Carling products would be found still primarily in Canada and the UK, and as imports for the US. Though if Coors co-owns the brand maybe it's no longer considered an import? - its most popular brand for a while has been Molson Canadian, an adequate lager that had a huge advertising push from the late 80s to mid 90s, most famously this spot which leveraged nationalism (rare for us) and was very successful at the time: I know. It's ridiculous. Canada has had, I think, basically the same arc when it comes to beer: we have a lot more craft beer available and the kind of shitty, buy a case for the hockey game, watery 4% American style beer is still around but it doesn't sell as well as it used to. I think that Molson did try to make some inroads in the US market around the time of the film, so the scene is probably just weird product placement.
