Episode 48 — Plot Holes in Great Movies

Recommended Posts

Hollywood’s villains are the luckiest people on the damn planet. Let's talk about climactic midpoint of The Dark Knight: The Joker stages an assassination attempt forcing Batman, but not actually Batman, to reveal his true identity just for the purpose of getting caught later, then forcing Batman Batman to choose between Rachel and Harvey Dent, who are rigged to perfectly timed bombs in warehouses somehow 20 minutes away from any police presence.

How in the world did he plan all of that by himself and know it would all be timed perfectly!? What are all of the steps that the Joker would have to go through to ensure all of these events happened with Swiss precision? The weirdness goes beyond intelligent villains. How does the asteroid in Armageddon know to target our most famous buildings? In Friday the 13th, Part 2, how the hell did Jason Voorhees track down his victim’s house without a map, or a goddamn car?

This week, on a very special LIVE podcast from Zanies in Nashville, Cracked's Jack O'Brien, Jason Pargin (aka David Wong), Michael Swaim, Soren Bowie, and Cody Johnson are joined by the Cinema Sins guys (Jeremy Scott and Chris Atkinson) to discuss some major plot holes from their favorite blockbuster movies.

Fantastic episode, Cracked guys! A shame it was so short/seemed so short/moved so briskly. I'm sure the next show appreciated sticking to the schedule, but after so many discussions that were more rambling lengthier on the podcast previously, this one really seemed to breeze along! Some Friday the 13th, some Back to the Future, Dark Knight & Iron Man 2 was in there - woosh! - it's over!?!

I also appreciated an episode thrown in that dealt with things like on the site more. You're always smart and interesting, and it always ties into the articles you write in a "this stuff leads to that stuff"-way. But it was nice just this time to deal with movies, y'know? I wouldn't expect the podcast to be able to sustain just talking about, like, least accurate action figures of movie characters (God, Nedry & Malcom from Jurassic Park - and Hank Azaria's character from Godzilla - got some AMAZING action figures!) and most racist old timey comic issues or whatever, unlike the site. But it was nice to just talk about these movies. Fun change of pace from the sometimes heavier stuff with real-life applications/implications

Nashville audience sounded great too! They got a really fun show!

Loved it!

You assholes need to make podcasts more frequently. They're great. I especially like the ones that tend to blowing up an accepted myth(for lack of better phrasing).

Great Episode! I wasn't sure how they live setting would play, but it came together nicely!

On the topic of Goblet of Fire, one thing that has always bugged me (and I am surprised it wasn't brought up as a plot hole) is the fact Harry actually has to participate in the games. I understand that maybe he will die if he doesn't partake in the games, but there is no reason he can't take a dive and take a big 'ole goose egg. The French girl doesn't get awarded any points during the event where they kidnap and drown your loved ones because she fails to rescue her sister, so obviously you don't need points to not be killed by the stupid mystical chalice. So why can't Harry just walk out and pretend to sprain his ankle or something and take the zero? Or just tread water for 10 mins and say, "Nope, can't do it." Is it simply a matter of, "It cost us a lot of money to get this dragon her for you to fight, so by God, you are going to fight it!"
