Jason’s misuse of “Nonplussed”

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed Jason frequently misuses the word “nonplussed?” Nonplussed means flabbergasted, perplexed, or baffled. Jason frequently uses it to mean unbothered, unimpressed, nonchalant. It’s a common mistake. Websters recognizes the popular misconception and calls it an “Americanism” that is “widely regarded as an error.”

I don’t know Jason personally, but I care about him. His soothing banter has lulled me to sleep every night for years. I feel like someone should pull him aside and discretely tell him. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. I know a guy who says “in lieu of” instead of “in light of.” But he’s a piece of shit so I would never correct him.
