    Episode 70.5 β€” Minisode 70.5

I actually am sorta on the side of tired of the choices of movies they've done, just not on the "age" argument. I feel like I'm getting burned out on the "Crazy Action Movie Vehicle" genre. I'm longing for an movie that can be crazy without fight scenes. With that being said, the Wikipedia explanation of why he is called The Glimmer Man is pretty fantastic, and when I saw the title, I honestly thought it was going to be a "Jingle All The Way/Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot"-esqe Comedy.

    LOL

A lot of people just *jokingly* claim it's because she was Hannah Montana, but I'm pretty sure that's at the root of public backlash. People just cant's get over that she's not entertaining kids anymore, which just really says more about the world of Child Stars rather than just Miley as a whole. We expect them to be 12 forever, and get shocked when Lindsay Lohan is in rehab. It's not because she is an actress, but because she's the adorable kid from The Parent Trap just living her life and making mistakes like all people. **pseudo-philosophical moment over**

    LOL

I actually meant her 2000 performance, where she performed "Oops" and stripped down from a style suit to a skin toned outfit like Miley's (Made of reasonable fabric rather than horrible latex). I though "Oh, she's stripping to where she's LOOKS naked like Britney" Of Course, 2003 Britney is just 2000 Britney + 2007 Britney, so that comparison makes sense I also have a lot to say about the racism and "minstrel show" comparisons she recieved, but I'll save those for when "How Did This Get Recorded?" is made.

    The Last Song

Yes, I'm bumping this to start a Miley fight with LOL. Don't judge me, judge the Sea Turtles in this movie.
  5. inactiveuser501

    LOL

Musically, I guilty-pleasure like the new Miley (It's just standard Party-Party fluff), and I really didn't care about her performance. I was initially shocked, but rewatching it, it just felt like "Oh, this is her version of Britney in 2000". The performance really felt like a combination of Britney doing Oops I Did It Again and Gimme More. I will give her credit though, all that singing was real With that being said, if it's a push for a Miley movie, I'm going to find the post for The Last Song and bump it, because Nicholas Sparks needs to be done. You have been warned.

    Favorite Character Name

On The Line. And by the way guys, it was a Turkey Sub. Based mainly in HDTGM films, I'd say my top three are Lincoln Hawk (Seriously, that must be Stallone's best name), Ophelia Powers and Guy LaFarge

    Oblivion

I'm not even necessarily placing it in a "I hate it for critical reasons". I legitimately did laugh at this film, because it felt like it was so grandiose, and to see not just a lack of substance, but a lack of coherency in what was being established with the clones and the ending and the characters, it was just mind boggling. I understand that it's kind of a cynical POV, and that can rub people the wrong way. It certainly has for me in the past (*cough cough* Spice World *cough*), but a joke is a joke to me. If it lands, it stands. This is probably the most grandiose movie by Tom Cruise that has nothing in it. I actually had to look at Melissa Leo performances to see whether or not this was what she actually was like. The Southern Accent was just so weird in this movie's setting, I felt like she was going to say "Darlin', wouldya like 'nother slice of pecan pie?" at any minute. It was just so crazy to see that character appear on screen and then to learn later on it was Melissa Leo. It felt like she was talking what foreigners think southerners sound like. And I COULD HAVE SWORN it was established that Earth was uninhabitable which is why the entire species left. So to see that cabin, decked out in nostalgia and Yankee's Caps, just made me think "Where LITERALLY ON EARTH did he get this cabin and these items, when his exploration in his space car shows no signs of civilization at all? DID HE JUST SAVE THEM?" They had $120 Million dollars. I think they could have managed getting an actual person to be the villain. Again, the main reason I think an episode is warranted is just because Jason thinks it's stupid, and hell, if it's just him and 3 other comedians he found who laughed at Oblivion, I'd be happy as a clam.

    Oblivion

In this week's edition of "Lines read in the voice of Jason Manzoukas"...

    Oblivion

Disagree. I could say a lot of things about this movie that are worse than dull and predictable, especially when it comes to the future tech, the cabin in the woods, the ending, and Melissa Leo and Morgan Freeman. (And again I really don't think that we should say things like "Well, it isn't as bad as Battlefield Earth so it gets a pass" for my reasons in last post)

    Oblivion

Hipstery Bullying? Okay, now it's personal. No one is saying that this is some Birdemic/After Earth level shit going down up in here, but at the same time, those shouldn't be the only movies kinds of movies that should be done. If that were the case, then Fast Five and Crank 2 (Or hell, 66% on RT The Devil's Advocate) would have never been done because people unironically love these movies. I, as well as the others who support this film being done, do legitimately wonder "How did THIS Get Made?" In my mind, Oblivion should have been a home run, but the end result was just so...interesting, to say the least. I couldn't tell what was going on with the flashbacks and the cabin in the woods and Melissa Leo's motivation for anything, and I will agree, the film is BEAUTIFUL and the Scoring is very well done, but it just has so many noteworthy elements that just make me come onto this forum and defend it. Is it the WORST movie ever? No, by no scale. But it is very discussion worthy, and saying it shouldn't be done because it looked nice (Not like that's the only reason, but it is the most commonly brought up) sorta ignores the stuff that is in the movie that we brought up, as if we aren't legitimate listeners. We aren't saying "DO THIS FILM IT'S GARBAGE" and then leaving the forum never to be seen again. We have reasons. I'm just gonna end this rant by quoting Paul from the very first episode (Also I felt that they thought After Earth was more a Boring Movie that a flat out stupid one, Just my opinion, now I'm done)

    Elektra (2005)

Seeing as Everyone is talking Daredevil nowadays, I did a double feature of these two. Either could work, but this is by far the toughest to sit through. There is just no joy in this movie whatsoever. I know they have comic relief with Elektra's agent (?) and the girl on the run, but Jen Garner is just SO lifeless and doesn't appear to care what is going on. There is also an even worse explanation of events here that in Daredevil. How DID Elektra's master get ahold of her body so that he could bring her back to life. She is DOA in NEW YORK, and now she is in...eastern Asia? Off the coast of Washington? Another thing, WHERE DOES THIS MOVIE TAKE PLACE? There is no sense of time or place beyond the connection to Daredevil, which is BARELY made.

    DAREDEVIL (2003)

Just FYI, the Director of this movie, in addition to Ghost Rider, also directed the Kristen Bell-Josh Duhamel RomCom, When in Rome.

    Oblivion

This forum's acceptance of Oblivion is bumming me out. I'll end by saying that if Jason and 2 of the moderators think it's stupid, then it's at least WORTH an episode, for the comedic potential if anything. I mean, Manzoukas is the man. If he has Oblivion material, I want it.

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

But who could forget the comedic stylings of RenΓ©e Taylor and her Lesbian Jokes directed at Brandy!

    Oblivion

I listened to the After Earth podcast again, and I'm just throwing this out there Can we at least do this so that we don't deprive the world of Jason freaking out?

    DAREDEVIL (2003)

How about this, we DO the movie, but NOT because of Ben Affleck. I decided to check it out last night because of all of the Batman hysterics. And this is basically a male version of Catwoman; The lead is the LEAST of the problems here (More so in this movie because Affleck has, what, maybe 20 minutes of dialogue) But, yeah, this movie is BAD. Laughably, Upsettingly bad. This felt like a combination of Batman Begins, Spider-Man, and Catwoman. The CGI'd New York was horrible, Jennifer Garner is HORRIBLE (Is it just a written rule that Affleck can't have chemistry with his wives?) The costume was...weird (Maybe just the source material?) Jon Favreau's comic relief was mystifying, the reporter was garbage, and most of all, COLIN FARRELL IS THE WORST VILLAIN EVER! I couldn't tell if he was trying to be comedic or dark, and then you have scenes like when he killed that grandma on a plane and it was just SO upsetting. Affleck or not, this film is ripe for HDTGM.

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

Also, can we talk about the husband? When he realizes that Brandy's abusive, HIV-ridden ex is now with Judith, he rushes off to save her. Again, in a NORMAL movie, he would have been in love with her still, which is WHY he saved her, and decided to stay with her through all of the trauma she suffered. But we are forced to realize that after he saved her, he still left her, and maybe I'm just cynical, but I'm pretty sure that the ONLY reason he left her was because she had HIV. Fucking Dick.

    Episode 69.5 β€” Minisode 69.5

Guys, can we PLEASE talk about the only reason anything is done in this movie is to further the Star Wars Missile Defense System. I mean, it isn't even being vague. They are telling us indirectly that the Reagan Administration is responsible for this.

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

Okay, reading that Bible quote and using it in the context of the movie only confirms what I've been thinking all along; The lesson of the story doesn't work because of Brandy Norwood's character. In all honesty, I would be okay with the idea that we end with Judith getting HIV and seeing that she has to suffer some consequences because of what she did. They could have conveyed that poorly, but I still would understand the intent. However, they can't convince me that Judith's suffering is justified WHEN BRANDY'S CHARACTER IS IN THE EXACT SAME SITUATION AS HER. Brandy/Melinda has HIV, and even places the blame on HERSELF for staying with Harley knowing that he was sleeping around. However, in the brief glimpse of her we see in the end of the movie, she is still dressed the same, she looks exactly the same, and to our knowledge, isn't as church-going as Judith now. So even though she considers herself at fault for getting HIV, Brandy is able to live a normal life while Judith's life is hell?

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

Another thing (Again, Major Spoilers), but how does the married couple not realize that their therapist is Judith? She isn't some random person who is telling a story to this couple with marital issues, she was hired by these people, and begins this story with her name. In reality, the conversation would go like Judith: Hello, I'm Dr. Judith Whatevermylastnameis, so tell me about you two... (Conversation that happens in the script, Judith begins her story) Judith: Let me tell you a story, about my sister. Judith was her name... Woman: Wait, her name was Judith? But your name is Judith? Also, as someone who is claiming to be her sister, you seem VERY absent from her life? Hell, THE SETUP DOESN'T EVEN WORK.

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

I literally could not believe what was going on the screen. Even before they went into the whole 'morality play', I was just in a state of wondering if people talk like this, especially when it came to the comic relief/only white woman in the movie, Fran Drescher's mom SPOILERS**** I also really need to talk about the ending. I know everyone here talked about the synopsis of it, but I need to talk about what was shot. To have our main character literally hobbling into a pharmacy to get HIV medication from her ex-husband and then hobble out of there while seeing him with his new wife and child was so depressing and so upsetting that I just can't even deal with it. The bo-bo scoring in this movie didn't help either.

    Temptation - Tyler Perry

Okay, I just saw this, and seeing as no one here has directly said they have seen it, let me bring in the perspective. 100% Absolutely Positively NEEDS to be Done. I went in knowing the twist ending, and it still was an insane ride. Brandy's character's conflict is resolved basically in 10 minutes and she is not brought back until the end of the movie to reveal the twist. Kim Kardashian's role was SPECIFICALLY written for her, and yet she still serves no purpose. While in a standard film, the villain would go from a friendly guy to evil, this movie just jumps back and forth. The woman playing our main character's mother is fantastic, the woman who played Fran Drescher's mom in The Nanny is in this movie as comic relief, French Vanessa Williams with the greatest last lines ever, this NEEDS to be the first Tyler Perry movie

    Episode 69.5 β€” Minisode 69.5

Minisode's not up yet, so may I guess that the film is the 1985 cult classic Karatenastics with Mary Lou Retton?

    Kick-Ass 2.

I really need to expand my Cage library. Because when I think of him, I think of Bees, Stealing the Declaration of Independence, and Cartooning me.

    Kick-Ass 2.

Okay, now I need to see how a film series got worse once Nic Cage left it.
