Laughing Vulcans. Row, row, row your boat. Triple-boobed cat aliens. Rocket boots. "What does God need with a starship?" Of all 13 Trek movies, this one is primed for HDTGM. Synopsis: A renegade Vulcan makes Kirk (William Shatner), Spock (Leonard Nimoy), McCoy (DeForest Kelley) and the Enterprise go to a planet at the center of the galaxy. The behind the scenes stuff is fascinating. Shatner's ego couldn't take the fact that Nimoy directed the previous two films so he demanded to direct their final film in the series. The film got caught up in the writer's strike and Shatner ran through the budget, leading to terrible reviews and box office, so much so the cast decided to come back for The Undiscovered Country so they could finish on a high note.
I think Star Trek needs to have some place in The Canon. Whether it's picking one film from the series. Or movies versus movies. I'd be really interested in your take on Wrath of Khan, or The Undiscovered Country. Or even the series as a whole.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is my strong suggestion. You know why? • The Premise: travel back to the 80s, pick up some whales, go back to the 23rd century to have the whales talk to a violent alien which is ripping up Earth. • Spock does a Vulcan neck grip to a rude, 80s punk rocker with a boombox. • Shatner orders a Michelob and pizza. • Scotty completely changes the course of time by introducing 23rd century polymer technology to a factory manager • Zany, hair-brained scheme to rescue Chekov from a guarded hospital involving goofy, Police Academy-like antics • Overall wackiness when the crew of the Starship Enterprise encounters silly 80s culture.
