PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted August 15, 2014 Â I was working at my theater yesterday when the mylars arrived for the new films. These are the things that get put up above the doors of the theaters and the hallways so that they can be ignored by customers while they go into the wrong theater anyway. I immediately noticed that something was wrong... Â Â It looks like this may have been the mock-up that they used when the film was announced, like when they said "EVERYONE is going to be in it! We got this guy and this guy and this guy...", because Willis, Cage, and Chan AREN'T IN THE MOVIE. Also, most of the pictures come from other movies altogether. Willis (who again ISN'T in it) and Schwarzenegger were even in the first two movies, so they had plenty of images at their disposal, but those are clearly images from "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Sabotage", while Wesley Snipes over there is in "Blade" mode, and Stallone is sporting some facial hair from one of the earlier "Expendables", I think. Nice to see that they went with "Drive Angry" Nic Cage even though he's NOT IN THIS. Way to go Lionsgate marketing department! How did this title art get made? Â The movie itself was a lot of fun though, and it's PG-13, but you really can't tell the difference anyway. 5 Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted August 15, 2014 I dunno, it's never a good sign when an R-rated franchise suddenly goes PG-13 this many installments in. Â At this point I'm far more interested in The Expendabelles (though I pray they change the name, because HOLY GOOD LORD) 2 Share this post Link to post

It promises to be a fireball shit-storm wrapped inside a train wreck. A veritable cacophony of dumbness. The IMDB page plot summary is amazing. Share this post Link to post
Lando 2019 Posted August 15, 2014 Damn, that's a pretty awesome botch. Â I remember when I saw the trailer for this movie they were giving the list of big name action stars in the film and it was like (paraphrasing) "Stallone, Snipes, Schwarzenegger, Lutz, Statham" Really? Lutz? the guy who was in the dump month Hercules? He is supposed to be a draw? Share this post Link to post

At this point I'm far more interested in The Expendabelles (though I pray they change the name, because HOLY GOOD LORD) To be fair though, there really isn't much of anything different that I noticed between this and the first two, as far as content is concerned. They haven't been particularly gory (I do remember Dolph blowing a guy in half in part 1), and while the language is toned down, there's still a lot of swearing, including an f-bomb from our favorite curmudgeon. It's still crazy violent, but without all the shitty digital blood. The new additions to the cast are fine, even the Twilight kid, and Gibson's pretty awesome as the villain. A bunch of guys prominently featured in the artwork that don't actually appear? Check. The people that DO appear looking nothing like they do on the show? Check. If there's a fourth film , they should be required to stick "Card subject to change" in the small print. Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 There was a rumer at one point that cage was going to be in the next The Expendables 3 movie so it's must be some fan based art. Â Â Ohh look what I found..LOL, I have to dare say it, this is a work of art. I want to see that movie. 2 Share this post Link to post

Ohh look what I found..LOL Exactly! If not bad fan art, it looks like something that would have been thrown together for ComiCon or something the week after Expendables 2 came out. Anyway, in just the last hour, we got an e-mail notifying us of the fuck-up and that we 're to discreetly cover up the faces of the missing actors, which doesn't look the least bit possible, until the corrected title art arrives. 1 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 You should of got me to do the fan art. I'm fucking Picasso with Photoshop. LOL  BTW the fake terminator 5 stuff is already on the net.  PlanBFromOuterSpace- here is the movie you want to see..   I like the all NIck cage  . 2 Share this post Link to post
PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted August 15, 2014 Oh wow, that fan art one even used the Rambo tag line? Jeez, you could make up a better, more believable fake tag line by ACCIDENT. Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 I didn't do any of that stuff. that's all google images. Share this post Link to post
Lando 2019 Posted August 15, 2014 That tagline should be "This time...they're paying off back taxes" 3 Share this post Link to post
PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted August 15, 2014 That tagline should be "This time...they're paying off back taxes" At the beginning of the new one, they're breaking Snipes out of prison, and he DOES joke that he was in for tax evasion. *sad trombone* Its kind of like Chuck Norris telling a Chuck Norris joke in the last one. I get it, dude. They may as well have looked at the camera and said "GET IT?!?!". Share this post Link to post
PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted August 15, 2014 I didn't do any of that stuff. that's all google images. I know. Sorry, I had posted the Rambo thing before I'd seen that you posted those other ones. Anyway, I'm such a fan of JCVD's "Universal Soldier" films (parts 1 & 3-4 anyway) that I just purchased the "The Return" on Blu-Ray as part of a 2-pack with one of his other DTV flicks. It only cost 3 bucks at Wal Mart though, so if you think about it, I only paid 1.50 for that movie, on baby Blu no less, and I still feel kind of bad about it... Share this post Link to post
Lando 2019 Posted August 15, 2014 I didn't see the 2nd one. I saw the 1st one and was disappointed. I thought Machete did what Expendables was trying to do much better. Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 I can't say I've ever seen any of the Universal Soldier movies, they look amazing. I wish I had that faith element gif of Gary Oldmen saying I know, I know. Â Lando- I love the Machete movies, Danny Trejo is the best. The first Expendables was good and the second was OK. The third one is PG 13, really? i am going to go punch the sand like in planet of the apes. Share this post Link to post
Lando 2019 Posted August 15, 2014 Is Machete Kills any good? I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet, but I remember it not being as well received as the first one. Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 Lando- Machete Kills was alright not as good as the first one. they didn't get as many over the top actors in it. I found the novelty started to wear off by that film. but you need to see it for one simple reason the build up for the next third installment, should it ever really get made. Â PlanBFromOuterSpace- what does that reminder sheet say, just out of curiosity? Share this post Link to post

jarrycanada 2483 Posted August 15, 2014 if it's too boring don't worry about it. I think I've figured most of it out. it says something about keeping a eye out for out of the ordinary objects. Nothing out of the ordinary here... LOL Share this post Link to post

RyanSz 3140 Posted August 16, 2014 That poster looks like the Chinese knockoff DVD cover. Â I just came back from this movie and I actually liked it despite going to PG-13, in the same way I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard despite the rating. You can tell there are points that they had to edit down for the rating, which will most likely be shown in an Unrated DVD release, but for the most part the movie does well for being a mindless action movie. They make a couple jokes at Willis' expense like Harrison Ford telling Sly that Willis' character was no longer the CIA handler and he "wasn't in the picture anymore." Â The old vs. young theme of the movie is okay though the young team is made up of no-names outside of Rousey and Lutz, who are both sub-par as believable action stars. Arnold is keeping the theme of using old catchphrases all the time which is great, especially one line in particular while it seems that they gave Banderas crystal meth for his role which wasn't necessary except for comic relief. Gibson was great as a bad guy and seems to have found his current niche of being an easily hatable character actor do to his public issues. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted August 16, 2014 I dunno, it's never a good sign when an R-rated franchise suddenly goes PG-13 this many installments in. Â At this point I'm far more interested in The Expendabelles (though I pray they change the name, because HOLY GOOD LORD) Â I don't know about the Expendebelles being anything but a trainwreck because of all the news that has come out about it from the director only having done rom-coms to the fact they are STRETCHING to find female actors in the same mold as they found male actors for Expendables. I mean there is Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale, Katee Sackhoff, and now Ronda Rousey as almost sure sells for the movie, then you have older actresses that had one or two action roles like Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver. They may try to go for Angelina Jolie but she would most likely turn it down and isn't as imposing an action star as she was when she was doing films like Tomb Raider and maybe even Cynthia Rothrock but it may take a bit to explain to casual viewers who she is. Â Yet the names I've heard listed are names that really are for kitsch factor like Meryl Streep and Cameron Diaz who are so far from peoples' minds when it comes to action movies. I can see them maybe trying for Scarlet Johansen, but I feel her dance card is pretty full with Marvel. Then on top of it they turn away from the initial idea of showing women as badasses like men in favor of them posing as escorts, there will be a shitstorm of hate on both sides for this movie. Though another Meryl Streep sex scene could be a HUGE selling point for the movie. Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted August 16, 2014 I don't know about the Expendebelles being anything but a trainwreck because of all the news that has come out about it[...] they turn away from the initial idea of showing women as badasses like men in favor of them posing as escorts[...] Â Pretty much all you need to say about it. I mean, it's not like there are any scenes in the "Expendables" movies where Dolph Lundgren goes undercover as an escort. Â But I think Ryan's right about the bigger problem with "The Expendabelles" (and writing that name is not helping me keep my dinner down) being the lack of actresses who really fit. Let's not forget that the big selling point of the original "Expendables" was that it was a big teamup of action stars, from the 80s through the 00s. That works for men, but there just aren't a lot of women where you hear their names and think "action star." The only few I could think of that Ryan Sz hasn't mentioned are Gina Carano (who's already attached, apparently), Lucy Liu and Michelle Rodriguez (who already has "Fast and Furious" keeping her busy).
