It's dark and scary and there are cobwebs and I hear Dan Aykroyd's penis nose from Nothing But Trouble is loose in there. 1 Share this post Link to post
grkpektis 3 Posted June 18, 2013 This POS movie definetly deserves to be discussed on the show, theres a scene were zod and his men get transported to the phantom zone on didldo shaped rocket ships. I have two theories why either it was product placement for dildos or snyder thought 300 wasn't gay enough so he had to raise the bar for this movie. I hate almost every scene of this god damn movie even the writer of the story it's based on hates this movie. Share this post Link to post

I think we have another case of mistaken movie (That, or "I hate everything the director does" syndrome) Share this post Link to post
thestray 361 Posted June 18, 2013 Alright, I was about to say no harm done and talk about how the person I saw 'Man of Steel' called it stupid (an even bigger offense to me), but you're forcing me to play my hand. Â The 'hope' that you keep saying isn't there is present in my view, but I believe it's in a different form. What you were expecting was a Superman movie where the objective was to stop the bad guy and save lives, and I get that from that standpoint, this movie was a downer. But I wasn't viewing it as a typical Superman movie, I saw it as an Origin Story. For me, the focus was on what the reaction was going to be to Superman's existence. And when General Zod threatens Earth unless Superman comes forth, I'm pretty sure the focus WAS saving the planet, as vague as that may seem. But to me, the real triumph was the fact that the military learned to accept Superman as a hero rather than a menace or an alien. He was able to bridge the gap that Jor-El was talking about between humans and Kryptonians. Society now wants Superman in there lives, setting up sequels where people WILL say "Hooray for Superman!" THAT is the hope I got from the movie. Â I think the person you saw the movie with was right, this movie is stupid. It's a cool but really stupid movie. Â If the real triumph is that they accept him, that is stupid. Because here's the thing, wouldn't having an origin where Superman actually protects and saves people and exemplifies the hope and greatness and other qualities we expect from Superman better serve that purpose? Wouldn't that serve as a stronger more solid reason for the world to embrace him other than "Well... he IS fighting the bad guys, so... I guess he's not our enemy." ? Â It is stupid that they accept him. He's made them worse off for being there, he was not even there to protect them where he was needed most (in the city), when he does get to the city where who knows how many people have died he was reckless and endangered/ended even more lives, he never really goes out of his way to save innocents when it seems too inconvenient, and there's not even a beat where he shows he's sorry for what's happened. "He was able to bridge the gap between Kryptonians and humans", and how does he do that? Not by being a great hero, not by being an inspiration, not by showing people hope, he bridges the gap merely by being on the right side of the conflict. That is weak, and stupid. And if any of the humans in this movie have hope now because of Superman, they are stupid. Â He never proves that the world is better off for having him there, that is stupid. He's the worst thing to ever happen to earth, period, that is stupid. The promises of hope and greatness and being an example to mankind are never paid off in this film, that is stupid. I'd maybe cut it a little slack if it seemed self-aware but it doesn't, it seems stupid and treats the tragedy in the final act like it barely means anything, it doesn't address Superman's shortcomings in this film and how he failed to be the things Superman should be. Even if you've never heard of Superman though, this movie fails as a story on so many levels, and gives us a main character who while played well by Cavill isn't really about anything. He has very little character development in this film, makes no big choices on his own (every significant choice he makes is dictated by others; Pa Kent/Jor-El/Zod), and is not shown to really learn anything. Â People who loved it seem to be bending over backwards to justify things that the film itself doesn't take the time to justify. "Well at least they accept him now, that's hope right there.", or "This movie wasn't about Superman actually being able to save people and stop the bad guys, it's about acceptance" or "Well at least not EVERYBODY died, only roughly thousands, so that's a pretty big triumph"... This movie, a Superman movie of all characters, has significantly lowered the bar on what it is to be a hero. If there's a hero that shouldn't have people having to make excuses for him, it's definitely Superman. Â This movie would not make for a good HDTGM episode at all, but not because it's too good to be picked apart, but because there's just nothing amusing about all it's flaws. 1 Share this post Link to post

There's no point. There is no legitimate point for me to defend this anymore. I loved it, it was well done for me, and as you said, it won't be on the show, so I'm pretty much gonna stop now and go look for a movie that actually needs to be discussed and wait in line for the sequel. Shannon 2953 Posted June 19, 2013 I don't know how many people who like dudes we have here, but I for one haven't been able to think properly since I saw this movie.  When he came bursting through that door shirtless and on fire I literally threw up my hands in resignation because I could not handle what I was seeing.  I mean look at this shit    I mean...   I just...     He is just unreal. I feel like I'm ruined forever now.   Yep. Going down  1 Share this post Link to post
PhillipMedoc 648 Posted June 19, 2013 Yay, this means I can take the missus to the movie. It's a nice trend that we're starting to see equal opportunity eye candy in our summer blockbusters. Also glad to see facial hair but especially body hair making a comeback. Like, I'm sure a lot of people are psyched for Thor 2 because whoa Thor but I know at least one lady (maah wiife) who will see anything with Handsome McMuscles in it. Share this post Link to post

wakefresh 689 Posted June 21, 2013 Am I the only one that want the 50 shades movie to be PG 13 to mess with people:). Â Women will burn theaters down if that happens. I'm actually sort of interested in how they handle the nudity and sex scenes. Will it still cater to the male gaze due to the censors or will it cater to the -- I think mostly -- female audience they're trying to bring in. Share this post Link to post
Shannon 2953 Posted June 21, 2013 Am I the only one that want the 50 shades movie to be PG 13 to mess with people:). Â I don't even want it to happen. I'm upset that people are still talking about it, I really just wanted it to go away. Â There isn't even enough story to make a compelling movie!! The book is 60% drawn out, repetitive sex scenes that could never be shot for a non-porno. And the story is BULLSHIT. It's not some super sexy story about a woman's journey into BDSM. It's a story of an abusive, wealthy sociopath who takes advantage of a very young virgin. She spends most of the book weeping about how he's so awful and she can't stand to be around him, then he shows up with presents and he's so hot she's like "oh nevermind I love him." Â Â I just want it to go away so so badly. 3 Share this post Link to post

seanotron 2307 Posted June 21, 2013 Henry Cavill was on Graham Norton last night, and he said Warner Brothers made him sign a contract that said he could only eat the food they provided for the duration of the MoS shoot. He also said it took like 5 months to look like that, and that right after they shot this scene Snyder & his wife bought him a large pizza & a tub of ice cream and he basically went into a food coma. Shannon 2953 Posted June 21, 2013 *Exception for the The Watchmen where blue dongers were swinging free.
