Eliminators (1986)

Recommended Posts

As part of their experiments in time travel, Drs. Reeves and Takada construct a cyborg "Mandroid" with the body of a downed pilot. After the success of the initial experiments, Reeves decides to have the Mandroid scrapped. Not wishing to be taken apart, Mandroid flees with the help of Dr. Takeda, who is killed for his disobedience. Distraught by the death of his one friend, the Mandroid goes north to America in search of someone who can help him in getting revenge and stopping Dr. Reeves in whatever evil plan he intends to use his time machine for.

This might be the best, worst movie of all-time.

This movie is great in that it was the inspiration for Manborg, which if you guys haven't seen it's amazing as an homage to bad sci-fi. This was actually a pretty weird movie because it comes off as if it's in a distant future at the beginning but it's actually set in the 80s and a crazy scientist has created a cyborg. I about cried laughing in the beginning when the manborg asked for his mobility station which would allow him to move quickly and escape the scientist, but when its shown it is the most awkward tank track system that barely fits down the hallways of the scientist's lair.

I believe I saw this movie for the first time on HBO when I was 9. HBO was doing a free weekend where non-subscribers could watch HBO all day for one Saturday and Sunday. Back then technology was not so great and occasionally for some reason that I did not know at the time we would continue to get HBO unscrambled for a few weeks after the free weekend. My dad had just bought the families first Betmax and he would religiously tape everything that aired on HBO during this time.

One of those movies was the Eliminators...

I watched this over and over as a kid. The only cyborg movie with a cyborg that has tank treads instead of feet and a Ninja named Kuji (pronounced Coochie).

This would be a good call for the pod cast there is so much going on in there to poke fun at and mock as well as quite a few WTF moments to get discussed
