Dolly Parton trying to win a bet by turning NY cabbie Sylvester Stallone into a country western singer?

This movie is a slam dunk.

Before Paulie Shore's Son-in-Law, there was Rhinestone. Stallone at his Stalloniest and Dolly Parton at her Dolly Partonist. Stallone is a cab driver who hates country music "worse than liver."

Fun Fact: The Opening Credits claim that the movie is based on the song "Rhinestone Cowboy".

I don't so much mind that Stallone can't sing (But he is awful, like drunken karaoke at best), it's just that he has the comedic timing of a five-year old. He got involved in so many rewrites that he got a screenplay credit (And the original writer wanted out).

This film also manages not to employ just Cowboy stereotypes, but Asian and Italian stereotypes. The chemistry between Stallone and Dolly Parton is like a pile of garbage, I demand to know how Stallone got employed as a taxi driver to begin with, because it appears like he is almost killing people, the last 30 minutes of film reverse the progress of the plot entirely and then goes back, and the costume choices. Stallone is wearing Yellow tight-fitting shirts and black skinny jeans, the cowboy outfits have been bedazzled to death, the male antagonist is wearing a kimono at one point, it's just all wonderfully bad.

Yikes. This might be why they're holding off. It's also not available on demand anywhere, it seems.

Much music here in canada was playing for a longest time ever.  trying to make you forget that they don't play music videos anymore so they play music movies, now it's all reality shows and crap like that.  you would think netfilx would have that one. as must of the online movies in the canadian store is junk.

I would argue that Joyful Noise is way crazier than this, but the scene where Stallone is singing Tutti Fruity WHILE A FUNERAL IS GOING ON is in fact insane. I'm actually shocked that Stallone considered Stop! or my Mom Will Shoot his worst, because comedic-action Stallone is way better than Taxi Driver-Singer Stallone. Someone needs to put this on YouTube now so we all can see.

I tried to imagine De Niro singing Drinkenstein, but I wound up with Pacino, which was even more delightful.

"and they called him...DrinkenSTEIN!"

Am I the only one hypnotised by Stallone's bobbing in that scene? Also, I think David St. Hubbin's girlfriend made him that outfit.

This film is also notable that Stallone won his first ever Razzie Award for Worst Actor for his performance in that movie, while Rhinestone was nominated for seven more including Worst Picture. But Bo Derek's Bolero dominated the 1984 Razzies as that film won 6 while Rhinestone won 2 overall, the other was Worst Original Song for "Drinkenstein".

it's almost perfect now.

If I could stop laughing at this. I could almost get this perfect. plus I can't find a photo of Paul with out his mouth open and head to the side. but I think it's funnier that way anyway.

4pm time: added the stupid stars to the logo and tried as hard as I could to fix the font so it looks like the original movie poster. I think this is a masterpiece if I do say so myself and at this point i am finished.

--

Looking at this now, that it's done. Jason and June really look odd. My face really does hurt from laughing so much. I had a good time making this and Hope you all enjoy seeing it.

You know what this film poster really looks like to me. a dinner theater production of Rhinestone. LOL

Your going to love our golden crown buffet, and our chocolate fountain is a real show stopper. be sure to check out our other shows Next week. we've got Joyce DeWitt and Jamie Farr staring in grease, not to be missed event. at the Silkwater casino in laughlin Nevada.

Here was my (first) issue with this movie, I could not hear a word either of them were saying! It is the first instance I can recall where turning up the volume was actually detrimental to my understanding of the words coming out of their mouths. Everything they said simply bounced off my eardrums and was vomited back out. It was like watching a ninety minute conversation between a lawn mower and a dog whistle.

To make matters worse, I had to purchase the DVD (sorry, no BluRay--although I suspect if there was my eyes would have melted like the Nazis at the end of Raiders from all the spangle-y clothes) and there weren't even subtitles.

So...I guess I will have to watch it again.

I own the soundtrack to this film.

That is all.

I will not be taking any follow up questions.

That is a powerful weapon of mass destruction if gotten into the wrong hands. You should check your local police department to see if you need a permit to play that sound track in public.
