JoeCoughlin 1 Posted November 21, 2012 I came here to suggest exactly this movie. It's got a lot going for it. It has the Big Lebowski himself as Santa, Dudley Moore as an elf and John Lithgow Lithgowing it up. On top of things, it was produced by the guys who made the Reeve Superman films, had a huge promotional push from McDonald's at the time...and it's a really bad movie. 1 Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted November 21, 2012 My family had a terribly-degraded videotape of this movie. The only things I remember from it are the kids who fall a great height into Santa's sleigh and survive, and the final shot where John Lithgow is floating out into space. Â I'd suggest getting John Lithgow for an episode on this, except that judging by "Doug Loves Movies," it takes him months to get around to guesting on a podcast. Share this post Link to post
RegFranklin 19 Posted November 21, 2012 To be honest, I haven't watched it in years, but I remember when I watched this as a kid, I found the whole movie insanely disturbing. Kids sobbing when their toys fall apart, parents screaming when kids float away, and Lithgow presumably dying in the cold vacuum of space. 1 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted November 23, 2012 http://forum.earwolf...istmas-story-2/ Â as I point out in another thread, a christmas story 2 looks really bad, may require sedatives bad. Â also there is the 2003 movie elf with Will Ferrell thats terrible. Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319343/ Â then there is 2012 Elf-Man, just showed up right to video. Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2281215/ Â watch the trailer for that and tell me that doesn't look bad. Share this post Link to post
RegFranklin 19 Posted November 24, 2012 I dunno, Santa Clause 3 doesn't have soul destroying moments like SC:TM does. Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted November 24, 2012 also there is the 2003 movie elf with Will Ferrell thats terrible. Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319343/ Â YES. If ever there's a movie that proves that just unleashing Will Ferrell on a plotline and letting him improvise doesn't equal comedy gold, it's "Elf" (and "Land of the Lost," but nobody needs to sit through that one). How it is that this is somehow a contemporary holiday classic while containing maybe one funny bit is beyond me. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted November 24, 2012 I think that since we were deprived of at least one more scary movie episode during October, I have a few horror related Christmas movies. Â First is the remake of Black Christmas, Black X-Mas. This movie is a great guilty pleasure that takes away the psychological horror of the orignal in favor of an incest storyline, skin cookies, and numerous torn out eyeballs. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454082/ Â Then we have one that was mentioned by Paul and that is Jack Frost. It's about a serial killer who gets chemicals dumped on him while he's and becomes one with snow (like Sandman in Spiderman 3). When he is used to make a snowman, he goes on a holiday themed killing spree. Be sure to watch for Shannon Elizabeth in one of her first post American Pie movies. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116671/ Â Also to consider is Santa's Slay which features former pro wrestler Goldberg as a demonic Santa who was cursed to give out presents for 500 years. Once the curse is off, he kills anyone he can. Youtube the clip of the opening scene to see Fran Drescher, Chris Kattan, Rebecca Gayheart, and James Caan be murdered in this direct-to-DVD flick. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393685/ Â Also to be considered are any Christmas movie that stars Ben Affleck like Surviving Christmas (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252028/) or Reindeer Games (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0184858/) which speak for themselves. Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1401143/ Â I really enjoyed this movie and you know what. it would be a great film for how did this get made to review. this is a messed up roller coaster ride with a good pay day at the end of the ride. Syme 548 Posted November 27, 2012 I would suggest   The whole thing is on youtube  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C5WwammH90  I'll warn you now, it isn't about Santa taking down the martians Rambo style. That would be the best film ever. Share this post Link to post
RegFranklin 19 Posted November 29, 2012 I think between MST3K, Cinematic Titanic, and others, SCCTM has been done to death. Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted December 1, 2012 Silent Night 2012 Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2347497/ Â this looks like a gem, it's got Malcolm McDowell. he woudn't sign up for any old movie would he.. Â I've got another one, seeing that last year we had jingle all the way. how about another muscle man christmas movie. I don't know about you guys, but when I think about christmas I think about Hulk Hogan. I think about Hulk Hogan in santa with muscles. Â Â http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117550/ Â Ohh btw, it's on youtube for free.. Marry christmas everyone!!! Share this post Link to post
flauyven 0 Posted December 7, 2012 I have to believe the live-action Grinch would be the Christmas movie to do. Share this post Link to post
CK06 0 Posted December 7, 2012 Elf isn't generally considered a bad movie. It has an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it made a crapton of money. Â I was rooting for Christmas with the Kranks, personally! Share this post Link to post
JackChristensen 177 Posted November 17, 2016 I searched this forum before posting a recommendation for Santa Claus: the movie. I feel it's perfect for all the reasons listed above. Lithgow is bat-shit. The movie posits a world in which children are still primarily playing with wooden toys in the 1980s. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and I still love it. Â I didn't mind Christmas with the Kranks. Great track by The Raveonettes, Jamie Lee Curtis in her underwear still looking fine AF. 2 Share this post Link to post

I made the mistake of showing my kids (6 and 4) 'Santa Claus: the Movie' last year. Somehow, they loved it. As we move in to the holiday season I fear that it'll come back into the rotation.  I very clearly remember seeing this at the cinema when I was about 8. All I really remember was being shocked that the rich little girl just handed out cans of coke to homeless kids. Like, how rich WAS she? 3 Share this post Link to post
