    UHF (1989)

I was hoping you guys could do the 1989 Weird Al classic "UHF". Its the battle of a small television station in its quest to become the most popular TV station in town. You even get to see Michael Richards almost go full retard.

    TV Movies/Miniseries

Taking off from the conversation a few episodes back about seeing if there are TV movies that are worthy of being in the canon. The exhibition of a piece of film does not take a way from something being considered. ELEPHANT (2003) won the Palm d'Or, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA (2013) was shown in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. ELEPHANT should definitely be talked about at some point on the show and is technically a TV movie for HBO as is CITIZENFOUR (2014) - also should be discussed- which won both an Academy Award and Primetime Emmy. Other TV movies worth discussing also include AND THE BAND PLAYED ON (1993), 61* (2001), BRIAN'S SONG (1971), THE DAY AFTER (1983), DUEL (1971), and GAME CHANGE (2012). There also are those miniseries that have transcended what a movie and a miniseries is that should be considered canon worthy. A good example of this is IT (1990) is still shown in syndication and is presented as a movie when done so. People still talk about Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise as being one of the scariest movie villains. Even with a new version being made now all the trades always reference this miniseries, Curry's performance, and the fact that it is a remake. I guess I'm saying is that these should still be up for consideration despite where they aired. Thoughts?
  3. Hi All! Last week I released the first batch of episodes for This Is Your Pilot Speaking, a podcast that explores the weird and rewarding world of television pilots. I try to combine cultural, academic/theoretical, narrative, and technical knowledge with amateur consumer experiences in deconstructing each pilot episode in understanding what works and what doesn't, as well as how it sets up the series to follow. Last week's episodes covered The Office (US vs. UK) and Fargo You can subscribe on: iTunes Stitcher TuneIn Blubrry Feel free to e-mail me with feedback, questions, or show suggestions! thisisyourpilotpodcast@gmail.com We are releasing our third episode on Parks and Recreation tomorrow. Hope you take a listen! -Alexa

    MST3K Kickstarter

Hey there forums, I was just rifling through the forums and realized I hadn't seen anything about MST3K's Kickstarter posted here. If you're anything like me, your sense of humour owes part of its upbringing to Mystery Science Theater 3000, so here's a blurb and the link! Mystery Science Theater 3000, also known as MST3K, is in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign and it needs your help. For those unfamiliar, it was a comedy TV series that ran in the 1980s and 90s. Featuring a man and his robot sidekicks, they riffed on B-movies as a part of an "experiment." The series ran for 11 years, 197 episodes, one feature film, won a Peabody Award in 1993, and was listed as one of Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All-Time" in 2007. You may have seen some of the same people when they toured as Cinematic Titanic, too. The creator, Joel Hodgson, is now attempting to bring back the legendary comedy series through the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. He needs to raise $5.5 Million by December 11, 2015 to be able to produce a new season of 12 episodes. Whether you are interested in supporting this campaign, or if just want to learn more, please check out this site: https://www.BringBackMST3k.com #BringBackMST3k
  6. On top of all the comedy podcasts I listen to, I also like ones that go behind the scenes of the entertainment industry, as I work in television. Has anyone heard of The Jay & Tony Show Show? I think it's a small podcast where the two hosts tell a lot of funny anecdotes about celebrities and behind-the-scenes info on shows. I'm enjoying it so far, so I thought I'd share and see if anyone else has also heard of it? https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-jay-and-tony-show-show/id920936734
  7. i know this is a strange request, but i'd love to see the HDTGM crew eviscerate the terrible pilot for the new batman series, Gotham. so far i haven't seen a review that i felt articulated just how thoroughly inept this idea was executed. i know it's a long shot, and i'm probably making a forum faux pas, but i'd love to hear the team give this shitty piece of art what it has coming to it. i'd at least buy a t-shirt as a thank you. i might even make a big donation.
  8. I stepped in some dog shit and watched Crossbones, thinking that John Malkovich was going to be good in this. but he does a terrible accident that he can't pull off. NBC did this behind the scenes video that sums up this what they call a roller costar ride. Gess http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDk3l_P1Gx8 0.30sec mark, What the hell did Malkovich just say " it's a typically, well written character because it's a typically written!" what the hell does that mean. LOL this video is the biggist line of bull shit i've ever heard about a show. How many episodes are they going to air on tv before it gets pulled I betting less then five. it's like they have one set for the entire show.

    Applied Nostalgia - SoWellRed Podcast

Hey everybody, I figured I'd start a thread to share my new podcast. The basic premise is as follows. 1. We take suggestions for a show to watch (any show, as long as it's older than 9/11/2001). 2. We then get on mic and talk about it. We deconstruct the plot/premise and go on tangents about what the show means. Think of it as a sort of hybrid between Hollywood Handbook and Go Bayside. We change the show up each week. It's short, only about 27 minutes long. We'll hopefully do one every week or two and I'll keep linking them here if there's any interest. Here's the premiere episode where we discuss two classic episodes of Pokemon: http://sowellred.bandcamp.com/track/applied-nostalgia-101-pokemon Tweet suggestions for shows and episodes to @SoWellRed If we choose your show we'll give you a shout out on the intro.

    Posting Scripts Online

Question: Suppose we wrote a TV script a couple of years ago and don't have time to be shopping it around, networking, 'pitching' or any of this stuff. And suppose it turns out almost nobody will accept or even view submitted scripts via the regular routes. Does anyone know if there is a quality place to post an original script online? In this case we wrote this 'Sitcom Pilot Episode' sorta thing about a psychiatric hospital and just seems like it wouldn't hurt to appear online somewhere. But I'm not only asking for myself but I'm sure everyone else here has a sitcom or drama collecting dust on their hard drive? Seems like there should be a place for them on the internet if for no other reason than - who knows - someone might give you $30 and do something with it? Ideas, comments, help?

    Follow Networks

Hey everyone. I'm new here. I'm Chad. Enjoyed viewing the forum for a while and decided to join. Also thought I would share my podcast network with you. I run a company called Follow Networks. Currently we produce 5 podcasts, 1 of which is on break. If you like funny and pop culture, I suggest checking out Mad Chat which is the pod that made us set up the company. We also do Instant Film Review, a movie conversation pod that includes some good humor and movie talk. It's at www.followthe.tv. Obviously they are all on iTunes. Search Follow Networks. Hopefully you'll check them out. We have some big plans for 2013, including some event appearances and a live events. Thanks for all the inspiration.

    Bunk: good?

Not easy to get Comedy Central material here in Canada, so I was wondering – since they’re advertising on the show and all – if Bunk was, well, good. Given that this is the Internet's premier improv podcast, it seems to be a good place to ask if an improv-driven show is working out well.
