admin 330 Posted April 2, 2013 Can anyone explain the plot of Spice World? Parks and Rec’s Retta joins us to try to make sense of the movie’s nonsense such as; the gigantic interior of the bus, the pregnant Asian friend, and why Ginger Spice kisses an alien on the mouth. We’ll also get into the Italian men asses scene, why Retta had a dream about George Wendt, and the possibility of a character contemplating suicide. That’s not all, tune in to find who Paul, June, Jason, and Retta would be if they were Spice Girls. Girl Power, bro! Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted April 2, 2013 So you think there will be a sequel done in near-realtime like Before Sunrise/Sunset called Spice Women? 1 Share this post Link to post
Gym Sockerman 1326 Posted April 2, 2013 More critics need to take into account how well the cast gets along. 1 Share this post Link to post
Smigg 1488 Posted April 2, 2013 Well, when you look at it from a different perspective, it makes perfect sense, Geri Halliwell kisses the Alien on the mouth. The scene where they're all pregnant (including Geri) Now, this following point changes the whole movie Geri Halliwell is Chev Chelios' mother in Crank 2. Spiceworld is actually the first Crank movie! Geri banged the alien offscreen, got pregnant via the alien and gave birth to Chev Chelios!! That explains why the flashback scene in Crank 2, set in the 90s shows Chev as a kid, when Chev is about 40, it's the alien genes which is making him age much faster, on top of that, Chev never met his father. 6 Share this post Link to post
BagguhMcGuirk 104 Posted April 2, 2013 I'm glad that, unlike them, I didn't have to watch this one. When I went on youtube and saw it was 9.99 I knew there was no chance I was watching this one. Sounds like I made the right call. Share this post Link to post
Smigg 1488 Posted April 2, 2013 Also, a couple of answers as an Englishman: "Dosh" is British slang for money. The guy who played "Brad" is Jason Flemyng, who was in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrells, Snatch, Mean Machine (2001), Stardust and lots of other things. Share this post Link to post
IMAHUGEHDTGMFAN 1837 Posted April 2, 2013 There was some META humor because Paul played the trailer in the mini episode and the actual episode... Then before the episode begins he says that the studios AC is out of order and a Fan can be heard in the background. So during the entire episode I kept thinking in the SpiceWorld "I need a Fan" scene LOL Share this post Link to post
BillBrasky2620 34 Posted April 2, 2013 Hey, this page: http://sotcaa.org/history/sotcaa2000/sotcaa2000_frame.html?/history/sotcaa2000/editnews/spiceworld.html takes a look at an early rough cut of the movie, and explains about how Gary Glitter had a cameo which was cut shortly before the release of the film, as Paul said. It also reveals that Elton John DID have a line originally which was cut, rendering his appearance in the movie kind of pointless. 1 Share this post Link to post
danm_999 30 Posted April 2, 2013 The Spice Girls won a joint Razzy for Worst Actress for this one. Well deserved in my opinion. Share this post Link to post
CullenRyan 4 Posted April 2, 2013 I was a Senior in high school when this movie came out, and went to it in the theater as a joke with a group of friends. My buddy Sean stood up during the scene with the aliens, and yelled- in a theater full of pre-teen girls and us- "This is TERRIBLE!! I'VE HAD IT!!!" and stormed out, yelling the whole way up the aisle. Then he came back five minutes later with popcorn and lemon drops. 3 Share this post Link to post

robinsbruce 4985 Posted April 2, 2013 I LOVE Retta's laugh. And her lack of interest in this film. Can we get a photoshop of Jason's face/hair on Scary Spice's body? Share this post Link to post
Herself 107 Posted April 2, 2013 Soooooooo need to see Jason as Scary Spice! Share this post Link to post

AndyTalarzyk 34 Posted April 2, 2013 I've made my thoughts fairly well known in previous threads, but I will go on record once more as saying this movie is amazing. If you like non-sequitur humor, I highly recommend it. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted April 2, 2013 Made by Paul Fahjardoh http://www.facebook.com/fahjardoh and posted in the HDTGM Facebook page Original photo by Vanity Fair So if the Spice Girls set up the template for girl bands you have, from left to right, the pornstar/whore, the jailbait fantasy, the classy/skeletor look alike, the lesbian, and the angry one. RichardsCopyCat 22 Posted April 2, 2013 great episode, but easy target. I totally agree. This movie could not be more tongue in cheek. I would like to see the crew discuss more movies that tried to be good but failed (Justin and Kelly/The Vanilla Ice movie). This movie is just a romp. Nothing more. Nothing less.* June is right: watch this and enjoy it! If nothing else, it's a great pop culture reference point. *Maybe I'm biased, though, becuase when this came out, I was 13 and listened to Spice World with my Sony portable CD player about 10 times a day. 1 Share this post Link to post
justinmh05 1968 Posted April 2, 2013 Toshiko from Torchwood is straight up terrible as the pregnant friend. In a movie full of terrible performances, she still stood out. Share this post Link to post
drmoney 3 Posted April 2, 2013 I was 11 when this movie came out and I was a HUGE Spice Girls fan (...I still have a very soft spot for them). This movie is an amazing piece of pop culture history, and hearing this episode makes me want to watch it again SO BAD. I'm so glad June was in studio and on board with girl power. Girl power really did make a huge impression on my young self. I think this movie influenced my sense of humor as well - I love the non sequiturs and campiness. It was quite a treat to listen to an "in depth analysis" - I guess my 11 year old self didn't quite piece together the complexities of the "plot." Share this post Link to post
justinmh05 1968 Posted April 2, 2013 To me, this is the opposite of 'In the name of the King'. Both are awful, awful films, but this one is just so much fun to watch. Where else can you see Richard E. Grant, Roger Moore, Barry Humphries, and George Wendt give such bonkers acting performance? And Mark McKinney!!! Mark freaking McKinney is in a movie with the Spice Girls!!! Share this post Link to post
BrockLandreth 8 Posted April 2, 2013 Toshiko from Torchwood is straight up terrible as the pregnant friend. In a movie full of terrible performances, she still stood out. I knew she seemed familiar. God, what a fucking shame. Share this post Link to post
