Well to be fair Last House was basically torture porn and I felt Rob Zombie did a good job of keeping Halloween close to its slasher roots.

depends on if they want a pg-13 play it safe kind of movie. Mind you, they could mix it up and not have the same ending as the original. That would be the smart way to write this film. play on the original theme and then don't go there.

Well to be fair Last House was basically torture porn and I felt Rob Zombie did a good job of keeping Halloween close to its slasher roots.

 

Carpenter's Halloween was much closer to Hitchcock than a z-grade slasher. There's actual suspense in that movie. Zombie just hillbillified it (like he does with everything) and made the deaths more grotesque. I'm not saying the original is exactly Shakespeare, but it's miles better than Zombie's version.

I really don't see why people get worked up over remakes. The originals are still there for you, you don't have to appreciate or even give notice to the remake. The remake does not erase the original film out of existence. The 2007 3:10 To Yuma? Great western; we need more westerns. I was a little skeptical about the new Evil Dead but it was basically about as perfect as you could hope for -- an homage that hit the right notes and veered off into its own direction just enough (plus the fans got a little b-b-b-bonus after the credits).

 

I think we should really start treating all pop culture in a similar fashion to music: you can cover a song. Or you can write fan fiction (that one person who wrote Twilight fanfic made one of the best selling books (50 Shades Of Grey (which I fucking hate-read cuz it was so stupid) of the year). Put up parody videos on youtube. No one can ever beat Sam Cooke's delivery of "A Change Is Gonna Come" but be my guest and give it a swing. On the other hand, I've heard Diamanda Galas sing Billie Holiday, and that was a thing that happened.
