RyanSz 3140 Posted March 17, 2014 It's meant to be. This doesn't deserve an episode as it's a good spoof/satire of blaxploitation and is really funny and entertaining. I works well with the material and the tropes of that genre. 2 Share this post Link to post
DWillStoneberg 0 Posted March 17, 2014 I agree It was all done with the intent of being a good bad movie. However, that was kindof the defining idea of what this show was created for. Movies that are so bad, that it makes them great. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted March 17, 2014 But it's intentionally bad and cheesy, unlike movies like the Room or Birdemic which try to be good but fail horribly at it. Share this post Link to post
PhillipMedoc 648 Posted March 17, 2014 Black Dynamite is the best parody and homage to Blaxploitation films that one could ever hope for. It's a fantastic movie. It wasn't made to be bad/good at all, it's just poking fun at tropes and cliches -- quite successfully. And it manages to stand on its own as a hilarious picture, even if you're not familiar with the genre it's riffing on. There is nothing bad about it at all. Â Even if you don't find the jokes funny, that's the problem with comedy, it's subjective. I think Paul mentioned a long time ago that they were going to stay away from comedies for the most part, because there's just not much to discuss other than "this wasn't funny". 7 Share this post Link to post
Smigg 1488 Posted March 18, 2014 You have to love the line "HA! I threw that shit before I even came into the room!" 2 Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted March 18, 2014 The fact that almost every female in the movie outside of the old women and lead actress are porn stars and the boom mic scene showed that Michael Jai White knew what he was doing in aping the style of that era, that and the scene where they spend four minutes figuring out Richard Nixon's plan by talking about Greek Mythology is just hilarious. 2 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Sniffer 4174 Posted March 19, 2014 I think this movie could work as a podcast episode since there have been great episodes with films the hosts (and the listeners) have a definite affection for. Road House and the Crank movies are examples. Plus, the plot of Black Dynamite does go off the rails and it tends to drag in the second half (it is hard to come up with a legitimate ending to a parody movie, since you now have to find a way to come up with a climax to top the over-the-top nature of the film itself). Â I love the balls out of this movie; it's just great fun. Period. I think the best case scenario would be an episode with Michael Jai White, Scott Sanders (the director), and/or Byron Minns (the writer) as guests; that way we could all fawn over this fantastic film and its ridiculousness. 1 Share this post Link to post
Joven 373 Posted March 19, 2014 This always felt too cheesy for a parody movie to me, and came from a time with way too many stupid 'movie' movies and people forgot how to make them. I much prefer "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka", but it's been a bit since I've seen either. Share this post Link to post
Lando 2019 Posted March 26, 2014 This always felt too cheesy for a parody movie to me, and came from a time with way too many stupid 'movie' movies and people forgot how to make them. I much prefer "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka", but it's been a bit since I've seen either. Â Have you ever seen a real blaxploitation movie? They are cheesy as hell. How can you have a parody of a cheesy genre and not have it be cheesy? Share this post Link to post
Joven 373 Posted March 26, 2014 I've seen a few (Coffy, if you jive her, she'll cream ya!), but while they're cheesy, its a different kind of cheesy. Â Even The Monkey Hustle, which was trying to actually be a comedy on top of everything else wasnt the same kind of cheesy as Black Dynamite. Â Â I guess in movies like Airplane or Hot Shots I feel like the actors are playing characters in situations, whereas in Black Dynamite it feels like the actors are playing actors who are making a movie. Lando 2019 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm curious, what scenes do you think are cheesy? Share this post Link to post
PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted June 11, 2015 We've been talking about this one over in the "Kung Fury" thread, so I figured I'd just bump this. Share this post Link to post
CommentsFromMyPocket 53 Posted June 12, 2015 If you do this movie you might as well do Airplane, Naked Gun, and Spinal Tap Share this post Link to post
