Zandalee (1991)

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen this? It looks truly awful.

At the very least it looks like Judge Reinhold and Nick Cage are having a civil war facial hair battle.

It has a 33% on ROtten Tomatoes

Another one of those nick cage the Californian surfer boy plays a new orleans southerner. not sure why he likes playing that role. because he's not southern.

Only things i can remember about this film. is nicks really pumped up in this film, he was into body building or working with a trainer really hard, because he is showing it off in this movie and he's got this strange mustache thing going on that makes him look like a porn star.. other then that, I can't tell you what this movie is about. but it came out around after Wild at Heart. This was like the last less then mainstream movie that cage did. after that it was all Honeymoon in box office movies type movies.

Hey I found the poster!! see what I mean.

The strange part is how did they know, I may like trapped in shit.

if they did do this movie then they would have to make it a live show with fake glue on mustache's like they did at comic con for

I cannot begin to express how amazingly bad this film is... It's blissful in the same way that "The Wicker Man" is. The dialogue during the intimate scenes are literally some of the most hilarious ever put to film. And... Who doesn't love New Orleans? Those of you browsing the forum... I implore you to watch this...

There's also Nathan Rabin's My Year of Flops review of the movie. My favorite bit from it:

Looking back at surreal pop-culture detritus like Zandalee, it’s important to remember that even people involved in something this transcendently silly and purple had high hopes for it. Anderson clearly saw it as her star-making turn, a Basic Instinct-like scorcher that would propel her from actress-model-whatever to major sex symbol.

Reinhold, whose production company helped make the film, obviously saw it as an opportunity to escape the light-comedy ghetto and establish himself as a dramatic actor. For Cage, it was an opportunity to channel Brando. For Pantoliano, it was a rare and wondrous chance to wear a dress in public without being ridiculed.

Another excellent observation. That episode of growing pains when uncle Nick stays over.

Another Bump on this amazing Zalman King extravaganza with Cage’s hair/accent being unparalleled. Free on Amazon Prime and Vudu right now.

Oh, Zalman King! Mr. Red Shoe Diaries made some "steamy" pictures in the late 80s and 90s. They all were kind of like this.

I haven’t seen this film, but Zalman King’s most famous film (which he wrote) was the Mickey Rourke/ Kim Basinger-starring  9 1/2 Weeks. Just FYI.

Bumping for "boy always had a sweet tooth" within the first 10 minutes and "BLACK IT OUT, BLACK IT ALL OUT!!!" within the final 10 minutes.

In-between there's a lot of problematic stuff but the dance sequence 70 minutes in is worth the price of admission.

Tbh this might be "too good" for HDTGM but I'm glad it's been suggested.
