PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted December 9, 2014 I almost always get a chuckle out of stupid puns and those sorts of lines, but most of the 'quips' in this aren't remotely funny, or in some cases, it's like there's not even a joke there. Like one time, the cops that are chasing him get blocked by a train or stuck on train tracks or something, and he says something (in his "quip" tone) about them being on the wrong track. THAT'S NOT A JOKE. IT'S JUST WHAT'S HAPPENING. For sure! It usually starts out with "looks like someone is..." LITERALLY doing or saying what they're doing or saying. Let me try this out. *ahem* "It looks like PlanBFromOuterSpace isn't a fan of nonsensical jokes that aren't jokes." 3 Share this post Link to post
IMAHUGEHDTGMFAN 1837 Posted December 9, 2014 Paul!!! On the futuristic movie "Repo Men" (2010) there is a scene where on the background on a street screen a trailer for "The Fast and the Furious X" plays Both movies are produced by Universal, Relativity Media and Dentsu Now that I think about it, its the exact same joke they did in "Back To The Future Part II" with the fake "Jaws 19" holographic movie... And Jaws and BTTF are also produced by Universal P.S.: Thanks for the double mention 1 Share this post Link to post
Jesse Carrigan 119 Posted December 10, 2014 I liked how at the end of the credits it says in all caps "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN", as if to say "WE KNOW, WE'RE VERY SORRY AND WE'LL DO BETTER NEXT TIME" 1 Share this post Link to post

DiesOnAToilet 23 Posted December 10, 2014 So who were the co-hosts for the "View to a Kill" and "Xanadu" episodes anyway? They were both recorded at Largo on 12/5 and there were 200 something people in the audience for each of those shows. Share this post Link to post

wakefresh 689 Posted December 10, 2014 Dolph and Grace were the perfect couple. They are the funniest couple, because apparently Dolph was a bouncer at European night club and Grace Jones showed up one night, took a liking to him, and the next thing you know, he's killing Apollo Creed on screen. Life is weird. 2 Share this post Link to post
wakefresh 689 Posted December 10, 2014 I remember watching this as a young kid and there was the implied sex scene between Roger Moore and Grace Jones. Even as a seven-year-old, I shook my head at that. There is no amount of quantum mechanics that would produce a universe where someone with a body like Grace Jones to have sex with someone with a body like Roger Moore. This took me right out of the movie...and I was just a kid. The technobabble goobledly-goop on Transformers was more believable. 3 Share this post Link to post

He basically manipulates the situation so she HAS to have sex with him even though she doesn't want to. I believe there is a word for that... The more I think about this movie, the more I fucking hate it. 2 Share this post Link to post

Cameron H. 23786 Posted December 10, 2014 I thought it was Christopher Walken basically telling her to fuck him. I could be wrong I've watch A View to a Kill in the last like 6 months or so but I haven't seen in recently. Kind of... What happens is at the horse auction Bond runs in to May Day and says a normal Bond-ish line. Something like, "I look forward to your personal attention later." Flirty, but kind of innocuous. That night, he goes off with Sir Godfrey and they basically fuck up. Zorin and May Day suspect St. John-Smyth (Bond) of snooping so they race to his room to catch him in the act. She opens the door and he already in bed. He looks up at her and says something to the effect of, "Ah, I have been waiting for some of that personal attention..." I don't remember the exact lines, but I think there is definitely some eyebrow work. Zorin, out of Bond's view and not wanting to blow THEIR cover, nods to her and she gets into bed with him. She has absolutely no say in the matter. I mean, I don't mind Bond getting him some action, that's what he is all about, but usually they set it up that the girl wants to be with him too. And I'm not saying this was Bond's plan from the get-go, but he probably knows Zorin is right outside the door, so he is doing it all as a big "fuck you," like "I'm going to fuck your girlfriend now, because I know you don't want to reveal yourself, so you HAVE to let me do this." He could have just as easily said when she enters his room, "I'm sorry, is something the matter?" and that would have been that. Bottom line: May Day is given absolutely zero agency. It is like the writers/producers thought, "Hey, this broad can lift dudes over her head. That's a strong, female character, right?" 3 Share this post Link to post

The Living Daylights 80s forevs I love "The Living Daylights!" To anyone who thinks a-ha's only song is "Take on Me" you should really check out their greatest hits. "The Sun Only Shines on TV" is another great song! Share this post Link to post
Kickpuncher 5012 Posted December 10, 2014 Bottom line: May Day is given absolutely zero agency. In other words, she's a woman in a 007 movie. 3 Share this post Link to post
Cameron H. 23786 Posted December 10, 2014 In other words, she's a woman in a 007 movie. Yes, I agree with you, and, yes, Bond movies are misogynistic. That's nothing new. However, usually the women are shown to be into him too, if not initially, they are either won over by his "charm" or the plan is to seduce him to kill him or whatever. At no point in the movie does she show any interest in him and even looks as though the very idea kind of disgusts her*. If at the auction there was a shot of her giving him the once over, then I wouldn't mind as much; that would just be a Bond movie being a Bond movie. However, I'd argue that most Bond women are supposed to represent some kind of male sexual wish fulfillment. In this case the wish seems to be, "Wouldn't it be awesome for Bond to have sex with a woman, not because she thinks he is suave or handsome or because she thinks he's an okay dude, but because she has no choice?" In this regard, I think May Day is set apart from your typical Bond woman. *I am editing to concede, that the problem is probably the assumption that Bond is just that awesome that ALL women, even if they hate him or want to kill him, want to bone Bond. Which brings me back to Shariq's original post where he said there is no universe where Grace Jones and Roger Moore (well past his prime) would have sex. In which case, the problem is a casting issue. Moore, at this point in his career as Bond, has no chance in Hell of pulling that off. 5 Share this post Link to post
WayneMiller 37 Posted December 11, 2014 For an amazing podcast double feature I recommend listening to James Bonding: Goldfinger followed by Casino Royale. The contrast between Bonds and between guest reactions is amazing. And now I'll never be able to hear the line "not well" again with a straight face. "How did he die?" "In a well...." Allie and Georgia's comments on Goldfinger were pretty dead-on. Contrast that with the squee-athon that is Casino Royale. My personal favourite (podcasts), are Man With The Golden Gun, as frankly I could listen to Proops reading the phone book, and that guy knows his shit about 70's movies. Plus, has a fandom for Maud Adams which is pretty damn funny too. Diamonds Are Forever, with Doug Benson, and Scheer's appearance on OHMSS. 1 Share this post Link to post
MondayCity 194 Posted December 11, 2014 "A View to a Kill" is basically Walken doing a great Walken imitation, surrounded by a pretty bad movie. I would put this Walken performance almost up there with "Seven Psychopaths," "Suicide Kings," "Biloxi Blues," and "Annie Hall." His smile right before he dies is an AWESOME choice. I might take Walken and Barden as the best Bond villains. By the way, check out Walken's IMDB. WTF? "The Deer Hunter," "Balls of Fury," "King of New York," "The Country Bears," "Domino," "Kangaroo Jack," etc.? My theory is that Walken has two agents, one who went to NYU film school and one who is illiterate and hates him. 2 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, Grace Jones is basically passed around like a toy in that scene. Crazy! It comes full around in the new Casino Royale where Bond has sex with a woman who has been a prostitute her whole life. The takeaway from that scene is supposed to be that Bond has such good D that he makes her forget about all of the sexual exploitation in her life. 1 Share this post Link to post

In interviews he says that if his schedule is open, he's doing the part, period. That's why he was in the live action disaster known as Brian Williams Buys His Daughter A Part in Peter Pan on NBC. 4 Share this post Link to post
MondayCity 194 Posted December 11, 2014 wait. are you lumping Deer Hunter and King of New York in with Country Bears and Kangaroo Jack? what universe do you live in? No. I was saying that the good agent suggested roles in movies 1, 3, and 5; and the bad agent suggested roles in movies 2, 4, and 6. It's a split personality thing. But since you asked, I live in a universe narrated by Morgan Freeman. 7 Share this post Link to post
