EPISODE 272 — The Greatest Mascot Story Ever Told

Recommended Posts

Randy and Jason kick off the show with the greatest mascot story ever told. Then, then Sklars welcome Betsy Brandt, who discusses why Breaking Bad was such a unique and special show to be a part of, as well as why kids have a better grasp of language than we realize. Later, the gang talks about why college recruiting has gone too far, why rapper Lil B has the power to end careers, and why pants are not necessary for a press conference. Lastly, NPR's Robert Siegel calls in to explain why the best way to train as an athlete is by paying for sex.

What gives? I'm seeing two different episode 272's. "Greatest Mascot Story Ever Told" on my tablet, "Imagining Dragon" on pc. Neither one playable? Is it April already?

How am I supposed to get through my Friday without my Sklarbro Country fix? Did Robert Segel threaten to sue or something? I was halfway through the amazing mascot story and now I have to know how it ends!

It's enough to make a guy . . . well, you know.

Hey Sklarburritos,

I actually DID go see Colin Hay, completely based off of hearing him on your show. I was going to tweet it at you after the show but never got around to it. My wife is a huge Violent Femmes fan, and they hadn't toured in the US in FOREVER, so she randomly checked their site, and told me they were going to be at a casino about an hour from here with The Barenaked Ladies and "Colin Hays?" I went back and forth on the high ticket price and getting a sitter and all that, but decided to go for it because I wanted to see Colin Hay because I enjoyed the stuff he did on your show. He told a couple stories, performed "Overkill", which is now a song I can't stop listening to, and some newer stuff, and then came out during BNL's set and did "Who Can it be Now" with them and the horn player from the Femmes. Very good show all in all. I didn't get to "meet" him or anything because the tiny lobby area where he was signing albums was packed with people in the restroom line.

I think when he was on your show he had just put out his 70th solo album, and he's done about 37 more since then, but I'm slowly trying to fill in some of his catalouge into my collection. Everything you play of his that I haven't heard I immediately recognize it's him, and immediately like it.

I understand why it wasn't, but I wish the title had been "That Fucking Pilot".

Great, call, it should have been that Fucking Pilot! Loved her energy in the room. She was so willing to play on the quick hits without much podcast experience. You totally get why she keeps getting hired for jobs. She's got it, in the room. Infectious and you just want to be into things with her. Her attitude toward her kids was great, real and refreshing too. Glad you guys, dug this episode. She's not someone who does a lot of podcasts and it's always great to have someone like that on the show. Thanks for all the comments. We are loving being on this board. Ask us any follow questions you want and we'll answer them here as best we can.

Yes! I was pleasantly surprised to see her on, because she seems super cool in all the interviews and other stuff I've seen, but I can't remember her doing any other podcasts.
