Episode 45 - Margaritaville

Recommended Posts

Paul F. Tompkins welcomes everyone in the world, including people he knows, back to SPONTANEANATION! This week, Paul’s special guest is Jerry Minor of Mr. Show and Saturday Night Live! They chat about Jerry's million-dollar idea, why Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate birthdays, and which race makeup needs to be perfected. Paul is then joined by Hal Lublin, Michael Oosterom, and Jean Villepique to improvise a story set in Margaritaville. And as always, Eban (only the best) Schletter scores it all on piano!

SPONTANEANATION LIVE returns to Largo Saturday, February 6th! With interview guest Cedric Yarbrough from Reno 911 and improvisors Jordan Black, Nyima Funk and Gary Anthony Williams! Get your tickets before it sells out! bit.ly/SPONTO216

Get yourself a pair of Spont socks, as seen on NATIONAL TELEVISION on The Bachelor Live in the Earwolf store: http://ear.wf/1K61sLq

Nooooo the Happy Birthday streak is over, even though it being public domain now was mentioned and it seemed like PFT was trying to make it happen a couple times but to no avail. All good things... Still a great episode, loved Hal's evil Mr. Mister Timmins, Jean's sad drunk lady, PFT's reaction to the interview suddenly going to a more bleak place.

Tickling teaches young animals to protect their flanks, underbellies and other vulnerable bodyparts through play. That's why when you tickle an adult they punch you.

That's all I've got. I have a headache today.

In relation to the conversation about "people saying they originally had the idea for things that have already been created", I can remember as a young lad, playing Street Fighter II on the Super Nes and constantly getting owned. I used to think "This isn't fair. How am I losing to the computer? There has to be an actual person controlling the other player!! I wonder if they're from Japan?!?".

Not saying I had the idea for the internet because it was established way before then. But I was never aware of it when getting my ass handed to me by Vega for the umpteenth time.

Chow chow chow chow chow:

This is like the ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM effort you could possibly put into a song parody. "OK, we've replaced on word and one line. You know what, let's just put 'chow' in place of every other word and call it a day".

Great episode. Jean plays a really funny drunk. Favorite line - "Will you marry these rubbing alcohols?"

When PFT was talking about his distaste for tickling and Eban Schletter began tickling the piano keys... its just a perfect moment in podcasting and why Mr. Tompkins and Mr. Schletter are the perfect podcasting partners. Eban Schletter is indeed onlyyyyyyyyyy the best, and so is Paul.

True (pathetic) story related to the guest question: About a decade ago I emailed Coca Cola customer service with an idea for a version of the soda with only half the sugar. The idea being it would be healthier for you, but not have that nasty aspartame taste. No more than a few months later Coca Cola released a version with 50% less calories. Looking back I have zero doubt that this was just a coincidence, but at the time I was steamed and remembered emailing Coca Cola asking for some sort of restitution for my brilliant idea. Of course they never responded. Even worse, the new product was a total flop and was out of stores almost as soon as it was released. In fact, a quick internet search could not produce any information on this forgettable brand of Coca Cola.

I guess the lesson is some million dollar ideas aren't really worth shit.
